Disney movie UP and HOTEL FOR DOGS were celebrated for raising animal awa reness at Saturday night’s (20Mar10) Genesis Awards, sharing the evening’ s top film honour.
The two movies won the Feature Film award at the annual ceremony, held by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which praises those wh o work to raise public awareness and understanding of animal issues.
Award bosses hailed kids’ comedy Hotel for Dogs, starring Emma Roberts, as "celebrating the special bond between children and dogs".
The Cove, a picture chronicling the slaughter of dolphins by fisherman from a Japanese village, was named Outstanding Documentary Film.
TV shows Family Guy and Bones also won awards for episodes featuring an imal issues, while The Ellen DeGeneres Show took the Talk Show award.

SANDRA BULLOCK’s home in Orange County, California is under siege from th e media, and her neighbours are furious - they’re begging local lawmakers to do something about the paparazzi who have set up camp on their street , desperate for the first photos of the actress since her marriage split.
Sunset Beach locals have complained to police about the noise and actio ns of hardcore snappers, who have turned the neighbourhood into a media c ircus.
Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff=E2=80=99s Depar tment, tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper his agency has received a nu mber of calls from residents on the street where Bullock lives complainin g about members of the media parking illegally and loitering.
He reveals officers have been patrolling the area on a regular basis, b ut had found no violations.
He tells the publication, "No one has been arrested. We respond to ever y call and do patrols through there to make sure everybody is behaving. B ut so far it=E2=80=99s been uneventful.
"They have every right to be there. There is really nothing we can do..
.. I know it=E2=80=99s probably annoying to the residents there, but they=E2 =80=99re within their rights." Bullock and her husband Jesse James separated earlier this week (beg15M ar10) as news broke about his alleged infidelity.
A tattoo model went public with her affair with the TV star in U.S. mag azine In Touch. She claims James had a sexual relationship with her while his wife was shooting The Blind Side on location.

Production on the new HARRY POTTER movie was thrown into jeopardy on Frid ay (19Mar10) when a blaze ripped through the set.
Firefighters were called to Leavesden Film Studios in Hertfordshire, En gland after explosives, used in a battle scene in the upcoming Harry Pott er and the Deathly Hallows, ignited scenery.
It took 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control - but much of the s et was badly damaged, according to Britain’s News of the World newspaper.
A source tells the publication, "We were shooting the scenes where Hogw arts gets blown up in battle. But fire managed to catch hold of the set a nd it went up in flames. It was completely out of control at one point.
"The special effects guys involved are devastated. There’s always a ris k when there’s shooting involving fire and explosives but this shouldn’t happen." The movie’s top stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson we re not on set during the blaze.

ANNE HATHAWAY has reportedly been receiving letters from her jailed ex-fi ance, conman RAFFAELLO FOLLIERI, begging the actress to "wait" for him so they can reunite when he is released from prison.
The Italian businessman was sentenced to four-and-a-half years behind b ars in December 2008 after pleading guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, co nspiracy and money laundering.
The Devil Wears Prada actress dumped Follieri in June 2008, shortly bef ore he was arrested by federal authorities and admitted to scamming more than $3.6 million (=C2=A32.25 million) from investment and real estate fi rms.
The star has since embarked on a relationship with actor Adam Shulman - but Follieri has been finding it hard to move on, and regularly writes t o Hathaway begging for a second chance, according to Britain’s Sunday Exp ress.
A source tells the publication, "Anne fears anything she says to him wi ll lead to a fresh avalanche of mail. The letters are not only torturing Anne, they are putting pressure on her new relationship."

OASIS star LIAM GALLAGHER has taken aim at rockers U2 - insisting he has never met a true fan of the band.
The singer’s brother Noel has previously slammed the musicians for turn ing their gigs into a guilt trip for fans by using the shows to talk abou t politics.
Now his sibling has blasted the Beautiful Day hitmakers, because he’s c onvinced the group must pay people to come to their concerts to "make the m look good".

SIR MICK JAGGER and former ROLLING STONES star MICK TAYLOR have reunited in the studio - 36 years after the guitarist left the group.
Taylor joined the rockers in 1969, replacing Brian Jones in the line-up , but he left the group five years later in 1974 after allegedly falling out with Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards.
But now the musician, who was replaced by Ronnie Wood in the 1970s, has reunited with Jagger - they reportedly headed into the studio to work on a new re-mastered version of the Stones’ 1972 album Exile On Main Street ..
A source tells Britain’s Daily Express that Taylor, who is currently to uring the U.K., is providing "new guitar licks" to one of the songs on th e album, adding: "He said he’s been in the studio with Mick Jagger." The album is due to be released in May (10).

British band BABYBIRD’s frontman STEPHEN JONES stunned fans by performing an entire gig before announcing his father had passed away that morning.
The band, whose current album Ex-Maniac features Hollywood star Johnny Depp, was scheduled to perform in Glasgow, Scotland on Thursday (18Mar10) ..
Jones struggled through the entire set, only to reveal at the end of th e show that he hadn’t been on form because he was grieving for his dad, w ho had died only hours earlier.
The singer told the crowd, "I apologise for being a bit dour tonight bu t my dad passed away this morning." He then reportedly left the stage, telling the audience he had to atten d his father’s funeral.

LADY GAGA has defended the raunchy video for her new track TELEPHONE, ins isting the film is "groundbreaking".
The nine-and-a-half minute long promo has caused a stir online, attract ing more than 12 million views in the three days after it debuted on YouT ube.com.
It shows the Poker Face hitmaker being taken into a women-only prison a nd includes scenes of nudity, swearing, a lesbian kiss and simulated murd er.
Gaga even refers to rumours she has both male and female sex organs - b y pixelating her genitalia in the raunchy footage.
But despite some backlash over the promo - which co-stars Beyonce - Gag a is pleased she touched on subjects of homosexuality and is adamant the video will be remembered for a long time.
She says, "There are transsexual women and transgender women and sudden ly it becomes poisonous and something else because there are some people in this world that believe being gay is a choice. It’s not a choice, we’r e born this way. That’s why for me this video is groundbreaking because i t has one foot in the art community and one foot in the commercial world.
"I told Beyonce this after it aired, you’ll see this video is not just great now but six months from now what this video will mean. Hearing peop le say the video is sadomasochistic or that the video promotes murder for young people, it’s my personal belief that the video is getting so much attention not because of those themes because I’ve done those themes befo re, haven’t I? "There are no rules or limits when it comes to love. But I see love as separate from sex."

DAVID BOWIE and SIR ELTON JOHN have paid tribute to late singer-songwrite r LESLEY DUNCAN - by sending flowers and messages of condolence to her fu neral.
The 66-year-old Brit passed away after a lengthy battle with cerebrovas cular disease on 12 March (10).
During her career, Duncan worked with stars including John, Pink Floyd, Ringo Starr and Dusty Springfield, and celebrity tributes to the singer were revealed at an event after her funeral on Friday (19Mar10).
Her widower, Tony, says, "She was very popular in Tobermory (in Scotlan d) but few people knew about her career. She was popular for being a chee ry person. We have had messages of condolence from David Bowie and Elton John."

LADY GAGA’s lawyer has hit back at a multi-million dollar lawsuit from he r former mentor, insisting the business agreement between the pair was "u nlawful".
Producer Rob Fusari signed a production deal with the singer in 2006, a nd claims to have come up with her stage moniker. He also maintains he wa s instrumental in landing her a deal with record label Interscope.
The hitmaker produced several tracks on Gaga’s debut album, The Fame - including the hit Paparazzi - but Fusari reveals his working relationship with the star soured after she allegedly ditched him upon gaining global recognition.
He filed a lawsuit against her in New York on Wednesday (17Mar10), suin g for up to $35 million (=C2=A323 million).
According to the legal papers, Gaga and Fusari created a joint company called Team Love Child LLC, of which Fusari had a 20 per cent share.
But now Gaga’s lawyer, Charles Ortner, has responded to the lawsuit in a letter obtained by the Associated Press, claiming the pair’s arrangemen t was "structured in such a way as to mask its true purpose - to provide to the defendants unlawful compensation for their services as unlicensed employment agents." Ortner also claims Fusari and his company charged Gaga "an unlawful fee for their purported services." But Fusari’s legal representative, Robert S. Meloni, has hit back at th e claims, branding them "ludicrous" and writing an email to the Associate d Press, stating: "Fusari is a PARTNER in the Team Love LLC with Gaga and her father (through their company Mermaid). Rob was no more of an ‘agent ‘ for her than she is a Roman Catholic nun."

A Hollywood archivist’s decade-long dream of excavating movie legend CECI L B DEMILLE’s THE TEN COMMANDMENTS set in a remote California town is abo ut to be realised thanks to funding from locals.
Peter Brosnan started searching for the Hollywood holy grail, created f or the 1923 epic and then buried among the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes on Cali fornia’s Central Coast, 10 years ago and was thrilled when he unveiled st atues created for DeMille after a day-long dig.
But he couldn’t raise the funds to excavate the set and movie bosses we re far from interested in funding a dig as part of a documentary.
Brosnan temporarily abandoned the idea, but now the New York University film school graduate is hoping a grant to make a film about the area’s l inks to Hollywood’s great early films and stars will help him start the e xcavation.
Brosnan tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "I didn’t realise when I started this project that it was going to become an epic of it’s own." The publication reports DeMille’s ‘lost city’ was bulldozed into a tren ch and covered with sand when filming wrapped - because the legendary mov iemaker feared rivals would steal his statues and it was too expensive to haul away and store.

FREIDA PINTO has signed up to be DANIEL CRAIG’s next Bond girl, according to a U.K. report.
The actress rose to international stardom in 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire alongside her offscreen lover Dev Patel.
Now Pinto is set to appear in the upcoming 007 movie, which is to be di rected by Sam Mendes and will be set in Afghanistan, reports Britain’s Da ily Mirror.

Actor PETER FALK is suing a construction company for allegedly failing to complete work on his California property.
The Columbo star and his wife Shera hired Handy Andy Services to carry out refurbishment on their beachside home in Malibu, Los Angeles.
But according to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ.com, the Falks claim the fir m didn’t pack the soil properly, didn’t apply the correct paint, failed t o re-install fire sprinklers, and didn’t waterproof the house.
Falk is suing for unspecified damages, but a representative for Handy A ndy Services has slammed the allegations, insisting the actor still owes the company money for the work carried out.
A spokesperson tells the website, "This is slanderous to our company’s name… they still owe us $120,000. Falk’s wife fired us after we refused to do electrical work outside in the rain."

CHRIS ROCK’s representative has shot down rumours the funnyman has father ed a lovechild, insisting a mystery girl recently pictured with him is th e daughter of a friend.
The comic was photographed leaving New York City’s Trump International Hotel with his wife, Malaak, his five-year-old daughter, Zahra, a nanny, and the unknown woman.
The images fuelled speculation Rock, who also has a seven-year-old daug hter, Lola, has a secret child by another woman.
But a spokesperson for the star has moved quickly to refute the claims, insisting the girl in question is a friend of the family, who regularly visits from South Africa.
The representative tells People.com, "The child in the photograph with Chris Rock that appeared in the New York Post is the daughter of a family friend from South Africa whom (his wife) Malaak Compton-Rock met through her charity endeavours over the years. She visits often and when here is a joy to the Rock family."

Rapper ICE CUBE has made a new documentary about his beloved Los Angeles Raiders American football team.
The former N.W.A. star, who has always worn the silver and black of the sports franchise - now the Oakland Raiders, chronicles the rise and fall of the team during its time in Los Angeles.
The film, Straight Outta L.A., will debut at the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Fi lm Festival next month (Apr10).
