INCARCERATED RAPPER MAX B GRANTED APPEAL
Rapper MAX B has been granted an appeal against his 75-year jail sentence ..
The Harlem, New York hip-hop star, real name Charly Wingate, was jailed in September (09) after he was found guilty of murdering David Taylor du ring a botched hotel robbery in 2006.
Friends launched a ‘Free Max B Campaign’ in October (09) in a bid to ra ise the funds needed to hire a new legal team to fight an appeal, confide nt that would vindicate the star.
His manager Joli O’Shay tells XXLMag.com, "He’s gonna try hopefully to go back to trial, or get it a mistrial or get it time served, whatever we can do." Wingate’s accomplice, Kelvin Leerdam, was handed a life sentence and an additional 35 years behind bars for his part in the crime, and the rappe r’s ex-fiancee, Gina Conway, who testified against the two men, was later jailed for 15 years for her part in the robbery.
Prior to receiving his sentence, Max B, who co-wrote Jim Jones’ 2006 hi t We Fly High (Ballin’), had just signed a deal with Amalgam Digital Reco rds and he was in the process of releasing his debut album, Vigilante Sea son.
