U2 rocker THE EDGE is defending his proposal to build a number of new hou ses in his Malibu, California neighbourhood - insisting other residents a re slowly starting to back the plans.
The guitarist, real name David Evans, wants to erect a range of private homes in the exclusive beachfront community where he lives.
Residents have hit out at the proposals, claiming the 1,000-acre develo pment would destroy a popular archery club and have a disastrous effect o n wildlife.
And now Evans is set to put his case before the California Coastal Comm ission in June (10) to argue for the development.
He says, "I believe most of the local opposition is softening as I comm unicate my intentions of how these homes will collectively compliment the landscape. There is a small group of locals who are very vocal and simpl y want to stop all development of any kind."

A Broadway musical based on MICHAEL JACKSON’s hit THRILLER could still go ahead despite the singer’s death - producers of the show are pushing the executors of his estate to give the project the green light.
Bosses at Nederlander Presentations allegedly entered into a contract w ith Jackson to produce a stage show featuring the superstar’s hits before he died last June (09).
In 2008, the owner of the firm, theatre impresario James Nederlander, r evealed plans to take the ambitious new stage show to New York, and his o rganisation completed its purchase of the video’s stage rights last year (09).
Work on the production was halted in early 2009, when John Landis, who directed the 14-minute Thriller promo, sued Jackson over cash he was alle gedly still owed for the video, accusing the late star of "fraudulent, ma licious and oppressive conduct". That lawsuit is still pending.
The Broadway project was planned to start in 2011, and now bosses of th e organisation are asking for a judge to order the executors of Jackson’s estate to honour the contract and let the musical go ahead.
But Jackson’s estate lawyer Howard Weitzman is set to argue against Ned erlander’s claim, telling TMZ.com, "I’ve seen their creditor’s claim. I d on’t agree with their request."

Horror movie star P.J. SOLES served up the perfect 40th birthday gift for rocker-turned-filmmaker ROB ZOMBIE - her HALLOWEEN script.
The heavy metal star was in the process of remaking John Carpenter’s 19 78 horror movie, in which Soles played Lynda - and she gave him a birthda y gift to cherish.
The horror fan says, "It’s the original script… P.J. gave it to me fo r my 40th birthday, which was pretty amazing.
"It has all her handwritten changes to the dialogue."

Funnyman JONAH HILL is hoping he will be cast in the next ZOOLANDER movie after holding lengthy discussions with BEN STILLER about a possible vill ainous role.
Stiller, who starred in and directed the hit 2001 movie, recently annou nced plans to bring the film back to the big screen.
And the Superbad comic is reportedly in the running to play a bad guy o pposite Stiller and Owen Wilson in Zoolander 2, which is slated for relea se in 2012.
He tells MTV News, "There is no ‘officially onboard.’ There is no ship.
They’re writing it right now. We’ve been talking a lot about it, and it seems really exciting and fun.
"If Ben and (writer) Justin (Theroux) want me to do it, we’ve been talk ing about it. I saw Ben a couple of days ago, and we’ve been talking a lo t about it, and it’s really exciting. I love Zoolander, and I think it’s going to be really fun. Hopefully, they can get it together and we’ll get going."

British actor AARON JOHNSON is planning to take a break from making movie s when his baby with fiancee SAM TAYLOR WOOD is born.
The 19 year old started dating the filmmaker after they met on the set of John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy.
The pair has since become engaged and in January (10) Taylor Wood annou nced she is expecting her first child with Johnson.
And the teen is so determined to be a good dad, he’s planning a hiatus from work.
He says, "I am going to take some time off because I am going to be a d ad soon. I can’t wait. It is going to be a brilliant year for me. That is what is on my mind, not what film is coming out. Apart from that I am st aying at home. What have I got to rush for? I want to be with my newborn baby. It will be one of the greatest things and I wouldn’t possibly want to miss it. Life is more important than what film I do next." Johnson also admits he’s keen to make Taylor Wood his wife as soon as p ossible: "We haven’t set a date (for marriage). We are thinking about it.
I would like to get married sooner rather than later. Whenever Sam feels happy to slip into the dress with the baby bump, we will do it. We talk about the wedding all the time."

WILL FERRELL has ruled out a sequel to hit film ANCHORMAN, because the al l-star cast is too busy to sign up to the movie.
The funnyman had been in talks to create a follow-up to 2004’s Anchorma n: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and last year (09) Ferrell revealed the "o dds are good" for a second run.
But after trying to book in the movie’s stars, including Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell, for a second film, the actor admits it’s impossible to arr ange.
He says, "I thought we were doing it. Now I’ve heard it’s going to be t oo hard to get everyone together."

Moviemaker MATTHEW VAUGHN is petrified his wife CLAUDIA SCHIFFER will be assassinated like late BEATLE legend JOHN LENNON after a series of obsess ed fans targeted the supermodel.
In 2002 an Italian man was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after turning up at the beauty’s home in Suffolk, England nine times, while in 2004 a Canadian man had to be deported from Britain twice after also turn ing up at the couple’s property.
But one particular incident left the film producer shaken and fearing t he model could be killed like Lennon, who was shot dead outside his New Y ork home in 1980.
Vaughn says, "There was one time when I walked into our kitchen and the re was a stranger sitting at the table with a bag. My initial reaction wa s to tell him to ‘Get the f**k out’. Then I thought he might have a knife or a gun and my wife and kids were asleep upstairs. So I ended up offeri ng him a cup of tea. Then I dialled 999 as I put the kettle on. He was a freak.
"A judge extradited him. He got escorted to a taxi which was supposed t o take him to the airport. But he just asked the driver to take him over to my house. The police followed him and told him, ‘You know the moment y ou cross that gate we are arresting you?’ and he said, ‘Yes’ and just cli mbed over.
"Then we had another person turning up with vials of her own blood. We have had some freaks. I am not the famous one, but as a husband you get w orried for your wife. With the John Lennon thing - now and again a celebr ity gets ‘done in’ - it is scary."

TOM HANKS and his production partner GARY GOETZMAN want to turn GREEN DAY ’s AMERICAN IDIOT album into a new movie.
The concept album has already been turned into a hit stage musical and now Hanks and his Playtone partner want to put it on the big screen, acco rding to Internet reports.
Playtone was the company behind hit Abba musical Mamma Mia! The American Idiot stageshow opens at the St. James Theatre on Broadway later this week (24Mar10) after scoring sell outs and success in Califor nia.

Singer/songwriter INDIA.ARIE has taken aim at LADY GAGA and BEYONCE’s sau cy new video for TELEPHONE, calling the promo "socially irresponsible".
The Video hitmaker launched her blistering Twitter.com attack on the 10 -minute promo last week (18Mar10), asking followers, "Am I the only one w ho thinks the telephone video is going a bit too far?" Her comments sparked a weekend of debate between her fans and GaGa’s.
India.Arie revealed she was troubled by the imagery of the video and "t he unspoken back story, the language, the message." In the promo, Beyonce and an incarcerated Lady GaGa appear to be best f riends who plot to kill a cheating boyfriend by poisoning him and all the diners at a fast food restaurant before attempting to race away from the law.
The video ends with a Thelma & Louise-inspired climax as the two poison ers hold hands and drive off into the sunset with the police on their tai l. In Thelma & Louise, the title characters drive off a cliff to avoid ca pture.

DR. CONRAD MURRAY stopped trying to revive MICHAEL JACKSON so he could hi de drug vials, according to the bodyguard who called 911 on the day of th e late superstar’s death.
The King of Pop suffered a fatal cardiac arrest last June (09) and his personal physician is accused of administering the powerful anaesthetic P ropofol, which led to the singer’s death.
He has pleaded not guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter but security guard Alberto Alvarez alleges Murray stopped administering CPR o n Jackson and told him to place drug vials into plastic bags, before putt ing them into another canvas bag, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press.
Alvarez also claims Murray ordered the bodyguard to remove an IV tube f rom Jackson’s leg, which allegedly contained a white milky substance.
The guard reports he additionally witnessed the cardiologist rushing to hide Propofol containers - bottles of the anaesthetic were later found b y authorities in what appears to be a secret compartment area of a closet at the singer’s home, reports TMZ.com. Although it is unknown where the canvas bag containing the alleged drug vials is now.
In the report, it states that after Jackson was pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical Center, Murray told Alvarez he needed to go back to Jackson’ s property to remove some cream "so the world wouldn’t find out about it.
" Alvarez reportedly made the statement two months after the Thriller hit maker’s death at his lawyer Carl Douglas’ office.
However, lawyers for Murray insist their client didn’t hide drugs from the authorities. Murray’s legal representative Ed Chernoff has yet to rea d the ambulance report, but he insists Murray did nothing wrong and previ ously stated Murray had done "everything in his power" to save Jackson. (

LETHAL WEAPON star DANNY GLOVER is to step up his protest against fashion house Hugo Boss by joining workers in a protest outside the company’s su it factory in Cleveland, Ohio.
The actor/activist urged his peers not to wear Hugo Boss suits to the O scars earlier this month (Mar10) as a protest about the company’s plans t o close it’s Ohio manufacturing plant and shipping the jobs there oversea s.
Glover will join Workers United President Bruce Raynor and workers from the Hugo Boss suit factory outside the plant on Tuesday (23Mar10).
Workers United, the union representing workers at the venue, has filed a federal Unfair Labor Practice complaint against Hugo Boss.
More than 1,500 people joined Glover in signing a petition urging celeb rities to keep Hugo Boss off the Oscar red carpet, and their efforts were successful - the label’s attire was reportedly down at the Academy Award s.
Before the big night, Glover said, "The workers are productive and the plant is profitable, but Hugo Boss has decided it can make even more prof it by moving the production to Turkey or Eastern Europe.
"Hugo Boss says it wants to expand business in this country, and the br and depends on Hollywood cachet. Please tell the world you won’t be weari ng Hugo Boss (at the Oscars) on March 7." In a statement about the Cleveland plant, Hugo Boss representatives def ended the move, saying, "The Cleveland Hugo Boss facility is not globally competitive. PIERCE BROSNAN struggled with his latest film - because it brought back t he horror of the car crash that almost killed his son SEAN.
The actor admits he initially threw writer/director Shana Feste’s scrip t away - because it was "too heavy" - and had to be persuaded to pick it up again by his movie partner.
He says, "This young woman had written this beautiful script, called Th e Greatest, and it’s about the loss of a son and my son, Sean, I almost l ost him a number of years ago in a terrible accident.
"You get that dreadful call at 4.30 in the morning and he got airlifted out and he survived, and this film is about the loss of a son and the fa mily coming together again.
"When I read it I said, ‘No, I don’t wanna go there, it’s too heavy,’ a nd threw it under the bed and then my partner… said, ‘Look, check it ou t again, You’ve gotta do this,’ so I read it again and said, ‘OK, let’s g o for it.’ "It’s a beautiful film… It’s a really tender, powerful film." (KL/WNV

Taylor Wood cast 19-year-old Johnson as the lead in her John Lennon bio pic and now the couple is engaged to wed - and she’s pregnant with their first child.
Now Johnson has spoken out about his joy about impending fatherhood, an d he insists caring for his family will be his priority - even if it mean s taking on movie roles he’d prefer not to take just to earn enough money to provide for the child.
He says, "I’m going to be a father soon, you know what I mean? Which is so wonderfully exciting, I can’t wait for it. And I also know there are so many things I want to give my child. And maybe that means taking a job purely for the money. I hope not. But I’ve got a really good relationshi p with Sam.
"We have a great understanding of each other’s work artistically, as we ll as knowing what’s a creative piece and what’s something that’s going t o be a commercial job that could possibly not be ideal for your career, b ut will bring in some money." And Johnson is adamant he’s not fazed by the constant media scrutiny ov er his relationship with the 42-year-old filmmaker, because they support each other: "Things have gotten weird because there’s attention paid to p arts of my personal life I never signed up for. But that’s the strength o f me and Sam together.
"It’s not only that we’re trying to protect ourselves. We’ve got kids w e’re trying to protect, and our families at home. So it doesn’t really fa ze me, because I don’t think about it. It’s much nicer when you’ve got th at grounding - that rock at home. And you run with it together and become a team."
