ELTON & GAGA TO TEAM UP FOR THE RAINFORESTS

ELTON JOHN and LADY GAGA are to follow up their Grammy Awards collaborati on by teaming up with STING at an upcoming Rainforest Fund benefit.
The trio and Dame Shirley Bassey will perform together at Carnegie Hall in New York on 13 May (10).
The event will mark the 21st birthday of the charitable organisation, w hich Sting and his producer/actress wife Trudie Styler founded.
Styler tells Billboard.com, she’s responsible for persuading Lady GaGa to perform: "She’s such a great young woman. It’s a winning combination - we’re going to have a riotous time up there.
"Sting, Elton and GaGa will play together, and the boys will be perform ing with Dame Shirley, doing a great rendition of Hey Big Spender." (KL/W

GAGA FISHES IN HIGH HEELS

Tired LADY GAGA has been relaxing between performances on the Australasia n leg of her Monster Ball tour, by sea fishing in her high heels.
The singer has found a relaxing hobby to help her unwind between shows and after two recent performances in Auckland, GaGa travelled to the isla nd of Waiheke, where she waded out to sea and hunted for local tarakihi f ish.
And she refused to tone down her eccentric style.
Waiheke estate manager Jason Schwarz tells the New Zealand Herald, "She didn=E2=80=99t take her heels off once. She went down to Onetangi Beach to go fishing in her eight-inch heels, undies (underwear) and a man=E2=80 =99s business shirt - that=E2=80=99s it. She still had her bright yellow hair." GaGa is in Australia until 15 April (10), when her tour moves on to Jap an.

WILLIAMS JOINS CHICAGO IN LOS ANGELES

Former DESTINY’S CHILD star MICHELLE WILLIAMS is to hit the Los Angeles s tage as ROXIE HART in a touring production of hit musical CHICAGO.
The Grammy Award winner will join the Los Angeles engagement of the nat ional tour at the Pantages Theatre next month (Apr10) for a three-week ru n.
Williams tasted success in Chicago on both the Broadway and West End st ages.
Producer Barry Weissler tells WENN, "Michelle has proven to be a tremen dous asset to Chicago, first in London last year and now on Broadway.
"In addition to being a fantastic performer, she’s as delightful and ge nuine offstage as she is onstage. We’re thrilled that she’s not only able to extend her Broadway run, but to join our national tour for its third return engagement in Los Angeles."

THE SCORPIONS LAND HOLLYWOOD ROCKWALK HONOUR

German rockers THE SCORPIONS are to end their time together with an honou r on Hollywood’s RockWalk.
The group announced plans to split for good following a two-year farewe ll tour earlier this year (10), but they’re going out with a bang.
Bandmates Rudolf Schenker, Klaus Meine, Matthias Jabs, James Kottak and Pawel Maciwoda will be honoured outside Hollywood’s Guitar Center on 6 A pril (10).

GAMBLE AND HUFF MULL OVER MUSEUM IDEA

Legendary songwriters KENNETH GAMBLE and LEON HUFF are contemplating rebu ilding the charred remains of their Philadelphia, Pennsylvania offices in to a music museum.
The Philadelphia International Records office, where the Me and Mrs. Jo nes hitmakers held recording sessions with late industry icons Michael Ja ckson and Teddy Pendergrass, went up in smoke in February (10).
The building suffered serious fire and water damage, but the recording studio itself managed to remain intact and was largely unaffected by the incident.
Huff had initially vowed to restore the office building - but now the d uo is mulling over the idea of creating a museum to highlight Philadelphi a’s contributions to the music industry, which Huff admits could become a "tremendous" tourist attraction.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Christopher Cimini, the man accused of setting t he building alight, is due to stand trial on arson and burglary charges l ater this year (10).

SIMMONS URGES FANS TO GET THEIR WOMEN TESTED FOR CANCER

Rocker GENE SIMMONS is urging fans to persuade their girlfriends and wive s to get tested for breast cancer after his partner of 26 years found a l ump.
The Kiss star and girlfriend Shannon Tweed agreed to air segments from the health crisis on the fifth season of their reality TV show Gene Simmo ns Family Jewels - and the rocker insists he’s deadly serious about getti ng the message of screening out there.
Appearing on late-night TV show Lopez Tonight! on Monday (22Mar10), the bassist and singer, said, "I’m going to count to eight… One in every e ight women will get breast cancer. I urge you, the guys out there, to mak e sure your girlfriend goes to see a doctor today.
"If you catch it early she will live."

A NASTY BREAK FOR OSBOURNE

KELLY OSBOURNE is recovering after a dog fight left her with a fractured elbow.
The reality TV star flew into her native Britain on Tuesday (23Mar10) a fter spending time in Los Angeles, and surprised onlookers with her new a ccessory - a sling.
And now she has revealed what happened in a Twitter.com post to followe rs, calling the mishap "hands down the most painful injury".
She wrote, "I was trying to stop the dogs from fighting at my mums and managed to fracture my radial head!"

BLUES SINGER WRIGHT DIES

Blues singer MARVA WRIGHT has died at the age of 62.
The star passed away on Tuesday (23Mar10) after suffering complications following a 2009 stroke.
Last June (09) Wright stepped off stage at the CoCo Club in New Orleans , Louisiana when she felt unwell and began slurring her speech.
The singer didn’t start singing professionally until she was 40, but sh e went on to perform internationally with her band the BMWs.
A statement on Wright’s website reads, "At 6am this morning, Marva suff ered another stroke and passed away. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to h er family, friends & loved ones. Information about services will be made available soon." She is survived by four children, 11 grandchildren and one great grandc hild, according to her website.

BACHCHAN NOT PLANNING RETIREMENT

Bollywood legend AMITABH BACHCHAN has dismissed the idea of retiring from the movie industry, insisting he will continue working as long as he "re mains healthy".
The veteran actor’s career spans more than four decades and he has star red in over 100 movies, earning him the title of Godfather of Bollywood.
He has been handed a slew of awards and picked up his latest lifetime a chievement honour at the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong on Monday (22Mar1 0).
But Bachchan, 67, has no plans to give up his career, even after being hospitalised for an abdominal injury last summer (Jul09) and again for an intestinal problem late last year (Oct09).
He says, "I hope I can go back and start working again. So long as ther e are people who wish to work with me, so long as I remain healthy, I wou ld like to continue working."

KARDASHIAN SPLITS FROM BUSH

Socialite and reality TV star KIM KARDASHIAN has split from American foot baller REGGIE BUSH, according to U.S. reports.
Kardashian has been dating the New Orleans Saints star on and off for o ver two years.
The pair got back together in late September 2009 after announcing a "b reak" last July (09), but now Kardashian and Bush have decided to take "t ime off" again, reports TMZ.com.
The website claims the sports personality couldn’t handle the media int erest surrounding the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star. The split is said to be amicable.

PORT SUED OVER FASHION LINE

Reality TV star WHITNEY PORT is at the centre of a new court battle over her clothing line.
Designer Adrienne Baravetto claims she did most of the work behind the scenes for Port’s Whitney Eve line - and then was cut out of an oral deal she allegedly made with the former The Hills star.
In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on Friday (19Mar10) and obtained by T MZ.com, Baravetto claims she met with Port and her father in 2007 to crea te a clothing line for women called Eve & A.
She reveals no contract was signed but there was an oral agreement betw een both parties - and she was promised an $80,000 (=C2=A350,000) annual salary plus 25 per cent of the company.

WIDOW WINS FIGHT OVER KING OF THE ROAD

Country legend ROGER MILLER’s widow has won a lengthy legal battle over t he singer’s biggest hit, KING OF THE ROAD.
A U.S. judge has ruled Mary Miller and Roger Miller Music, Inc are the true owners of a string of songs Miller published in 1964.
The judge also determined Miller is entitled to $900,000 (=C2=A3562,500 ) in unpaid royalties at a hearing last week (ends19Mar10) .
The ruling marks the end of a 16-year legal battle between Miller and b osses at Sony/ATV Publishing.
A court ruled in 2004 that Sony executives own the rights to renew copy right for songs Miller wrote between 1953 and 1963 and an implied right t o tracks written in 1964.
Miller appealed and was awarded copyright for the 1964 songs because he r husband died from cancer in 1992, aged 56, before he had the chance to renew the copyright on that music - which expired after 28 years. (IG/WNW

WINFREY SETTLES DEFAMATION SUIT

OPRAH WINFREY has settled a defamation lawsuit with the former headmistre ss of her South African school for girls.
The TV talk show queen was told she would have to defend herself in cou rt over comments she made about Nomvuyo Mzamane, but Winfrey has met the plaintiff face to face to end the saga.
She was scheduled to meet Mzamane in court in Pennsylvania next week (2 9Mar10).
The teacher accused Winfrey of suggesting she was not trustworthy in co mments she made during a 2007 press conference following a sex abuse scan dal at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, near Johannesburg.
A dorm matron was later charged with abusing students.
Following the scandal, the principal’s contract was not renewed and she returned to her adopted Philadelphia in the hope of finding work. Mzaman e claims she was unable to find employment because of Winfrey’s comments.
The two women have now put their differences behind them and come to te rms, according to their lawyers.

HOPPER TOO ILL TO FIGHT DIVORCE IN COURT

DENNIS HOPPER’s Hollywood Walk of Fame honour on Friday (26Mar10) could b e the movie veteran’s final public appearance, if new court papers are to be believed.
Fans who show up to salute the Easy Rider star are in for a big shock - because the frail actor has been left ravaged by cancer and now weighs a little over 100 pounds (45 kilograms), according to a document filed by the attorney in Hopper’s ongoing divorce battle with estranged wife Victo ria Duffy.
The lawyer, Joe Mannis, has also submitted a declaration from Hopper’s doctor, in which the medic states, "It is doubtful that Mr. Hopper will e ver recover sufficiently to be subject to a deposition." In the legal documents, obtained by TMZ.com, the actor says he is willi ng to pay Duffy $5,000 (=C2=A33,125)-a-month in spousal support - and tha t’s all he can afford.
But his soon-to-be ex insists Hopper is worth much more than he’s claim ing, insisting he has made a small fortune from sales of his art and inco me from his acting career.
But the Blue Velvet star claims he has spent almost all the money he ha s made on his art efforts storing his paintings and drawings.
In nine years, he claims he has sold $1.9 million (=C2=A31.2 million) w orth of art - but spent $1.85 million (=C2=A31.15 million) on his second career.
The ailing movie legend will unveil the 2,403rd star in front of the Eg yptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on 26 March (10).
Viggo Mortensen will be on hand to induct Hopper into the Walk of Fame.
Hopper, 73, is suffering from terminal prostate cancer and reportedly h as just weeks to live.

LED ZEPPELIN SAY NO TO DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL GET TOGETHER

The members of LED ZEPPELIN have turned down another lucrative offer to r eform, turning down the chance to headline Britain’s Download Festival in June (10).
Promoter Andy Copping has revealed he approached Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and asked them to consider a get together for his event at Doningto n Park.
He tells British radio network XFM, "Every single festival in the world approaches Led Zeppelin or their management to get them to play at their festival. Loads of money gets thrown out. It=E2=80=99s not what they wan t to do at the moment and that=E2=80=99s fine. They probably never will, but everyone has a stab at it." Plant, Page and bassist John Paul Jones reformed for a tribute to music mogul Ahmet Ertegun in December 2007. Plant has since shot down all atte mpts to reunite the rock supergroup.

NEIL SCRAPS MEXICO SHOW OVER VIOLENCE FEARS

MOTLEY CRUE star VINCE NEIL has scrapped an upcoming Mexico gig over fear s for his and fans’ safety.
The rocker was scheduled to perform solo at the Woodstock Plaza in Mont errey on Friday (26Mar10), but recent outbreaks of violence in the area h ave prompted him to cancel the show.
A statement from promoter Gabe Reed reads, "After a lengthy evaluation, we determined that the present security situation in Monterrey was unsta ble and decided it was not worth putting anyone at risk." The concert is the final date on Neil’s South American Tattoos & Tequil a tour.

STAPLES UPSET ABOUT OBAMA INAUGURATION SNUB

Gospel legend MAVIS STAPLES is still sore about the fact she was left out of BARACK OBAMA’s inauguration - because she feels she’s at the forefron t of America’s civil rights movement.
The I’ll Take You There singer was thrilled when the American people el ected their first African-American president in 2008, but upset when Obam a didn’t make her part of his first-day celebrations.
In an interview with soul star Sharon Jones in the new issue of Spin ma gazine, Staples says, "I was disappointed that I didn’t get invited to th e inauguration. We (The Staples Singers) did Kennedy’s inauguration, Cart er and Clinton - why weren’t we there for this one.
"Freedom songs are needed now more than ever." Staples insists racism is still prevalent in America, despite the fact the country now has a black leader: "African-Americans still aren’t equal …. and I still feel prejudice when we’re on the road."

KNIGHT WANTED FOR QUESTIONING OVER ALLEGED BEATING AND ROBBERY

Fallen hip-hop mogul MARION ‘SUGE’ KNIGHT is wanted for questioning by po lice after allegedly beating up and robbing rap star YUKMOUTH.
Reports suggest the former Death Row Records’ CEO beat up the rapper on Monday night (22Mar10) before stealing jewellery from him at a supermark et in California’s San Fernando Valley area.
Cops now want to question Knight and members of his entourage about the incident, reports TMZ.com.
The website reports there is a previous misdemeanour warrant out for hi s arrest Just two years ago (08), Knight was arrested in Las Vegas on assault an d domestic violence charges.
The former Death Row Records boss was detained for allegedly attacking his then-girlfriend in a parking lot and brandishing a knife.
Knight was booked into the Clark County jail on felony charges of assau lt with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, and mis demeanour charges of domestic violence and possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription.
He was sentenced to community service and fined after pleading guilty.
