JAZZ GREAT ELLIS DEAD AT 88
Jazz guitarist HERB ELLIS has died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s d isease, aged 88.
Ellis was a revered session musician who played with the Oscar Peterson Trio, Jimmy Dorsey and Ella Fitzgerald, among others.
Alongside Peterson and Ray Brown, Ellis was part of arguably one of the best musical trios in history.
Born in Farmersville, Texas, he toured with Dorsey from 1945 to 1948 be fore forming Soft Winds.
He became Peterson’s guitarist in the early 1950s.
A memorial will be held on 30 April (10) at a location to be determined ..
