HALLIWELL: ‘DAD’S DEATH PUSHED ME INTO POP CAREER’
GERI HALLIWELL is convinced her father’s death spurred her on to become a pop star - because she channelled all her grief into carving out a caree r in the spotlight.
The former Spice Girls star was distraught when her dad, Laurence, pass ed away in 1993, and admits she failed to properly deal with her pain.
And Halliwell is adamant the loss of her father became the driving forc e behind her desire to become a successful singer.
In an interview on British TV show Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, she say s, "Sometimes I don’t think I would have been famous if it wasn’t for my father’s death because (of) the pain of it. It was so painful and in the western world, when somebody dies, we don’t have that, we’re so formal no body knew how to comfort me and I didn’t know how to express it either.
"So I just turned all that pain into, ‘Right, I’m going to make it’ - a nd it wasn’t until I left the band, I think that’s when I started to real ly feel how much I missed him."
