LUMLEY TIRED OF BRITAIN’S TALENT SHOW OBSESSION
Veteran British actress JOANNA LUMLEY has slammed the U.K.’s obsession wi th TV talent shows - branding series such as THE X FACTOR "teeth-rottingl y dull".
The star, who appeared for more than a decade in hit comedy Absolutely Fabulous, is tired of her fellow Brits watching reality programmes.
And Lumley is urging the country’s youth to turn their back on hopes of finding easy fame - insisting the world is "crammed with opportunities".
She tells the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph, "We’ve stopped having an interest in things. We just sit there watching other people’s lives on TV. It’s n ot pitiful - it would be snotty and stupid to say that - but it’s dull. T eeth-rottingly dull. I simply can’t bear lethargy.
"And when children here want to be on The X Factor, I think, ‘Why? Don’ t just want to be famous, do something that’s really fascinating. The wor ld is crammed with opportunities.’ "All children are boiling with excitement. But if you crush it, then fe ed them filth, dullness, repetitive nothing, tell them they’ll be paid fo r doing nothing, tell them a job will be created for them, how can that c hild ever know there are horizons to see or to follow?"
