FARRELL EYED OSCAR GLORY FOR FLOP ALEXANDER

COLIN FARRELL was stunned his movie ALEXANDER was a box office flop - bec= ause he was convinced the film was heading for Oscar glory.
The Irish actor played the ancient Greek conqueror in the 2004 Oliver S= tone project, co-starring Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer.
It was panned by movie critics and only managed to recuperate one quart= er of its $155 million (=C2=A397 million) budget back at the U.S. box off= ice.
But Farrell was shocked by the movie’s reception - as he and his co-sta= rs were sure it would sweep the board at the 2005 Academy Awards.
He tells Britain’s Total Film magazine, "We were splitting the atom on = Alexander - we were really doing something that had never been done and w= e were telling an epic tale that would harp back to the days of Cecil B. = DeMille and we were going to get 12 Oscar nominations. In our heads. That= ’s one case of where we completely misjudged the situation.
"It was a very big story and I know that Oliver was very rushed to do a= cut, but for me it just failed gloriously. It just kept in step with the= magnitude of Alexander’s ambition and ego." And Farrell is still upset his dyed blond hair wasn’t properly maintain= ed for the duration of the shoot: "That was unfortunate. We f**ked that u= p. A $150 million film and we couldn’t sort out my roots."

FARRELL FELT SICK REPLACING LEDGER IN GILLIAM MOVIE

COLIN FARRELL was wary of replacing HEATH LEDGER in THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR= .. PARNASSUS - admitting his "stomach turned at the thought of it".
Ledger was midway through making the movie when he died from an acciden= tal drug overdose in January 2008.
Director Terry Gilliam chose to complete the movie with an ensemble cas= t of Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Farrell stepping in to portray different v= ersions of Ledger’s character.
But the Irish actor confesses he almost turned down the role.
He tells Total Film magazine, "When Jude, Johnny and I were asked if we= could fill in my stomach turned at the thought of it, and then I spoke t= o a couple of people who were close to Heath Ledger and they thought he’d= be cool with it.
"I went to Vancouver for nine days and there was an amazing sense of co= mpanionship and love and respect for Heath as an actor and a man." Despite his tragic death, Farrell reveals he has fond memories of Ledge= r: "I knew him a little bit. I hadn’t seen him in a few years then saw hi= m a few months before he passed. He was one of the good ones - a gorgeous= dude, really kind and humble and smart and creative."

CABRERA JOINS PATRIDGE ON THE HILLS

Singer RYAN CABRERA is set to star on the small screen - he’s joining gir= lfriend AUDRINA PATRIDGE on her hit reality TV show THE HILLS.
Cabrera first dated Patridge several years ago but they rekindled their= romance in January (10).
And their second chance at love will play out on the small screen, acco= rding to E! News.
The couple was spotted filming scenes for the MTV show at Hollywood clu= b La Vida last Friday (19Feb10) "for about an hour at a secluded table on= the patio".
Cabrera’s spokesperson has confirmed he will appear on the show, but re= veals he has yet to sign a contract.

LAURIE’S SECRET ROLE ON MEAT LOAF ALBUM

Actor HUGH LAURIE is continuing his foray into the music world - he appea= rs on MEAT LOAF’s forthcoming album.

BRYAN’S WIFE EXPECTING SECOND BABY

Country music star LUKE BRYAN is to be a dad for the second time - he’s e= xpecting another baby with his wife CAROLINE.
The Do I hitmaker married his college sweetheart in 2006, and she’s due= to deliver their second bundle of joy in August (10).

JUSTUS LEAGUE MEMBERS IN CAR CRASH

Rapper BIG POOH and members of his JUSTUS LEAGUE collective were hospital= ised in Vermont on Wednesday morning (24Feb10) after they were involved i= n a road accident.
Hip-hop stars Pooh, Joe Scudda, Chaundon and Jozeemo were travelling on= the road with their manager Big Dho when the incident occurred.
In a series of posts on their individual Twitter.com pages, the group m= embers revealed that everyone was just a little "banged up" after losing = control of their van on a snow-covered highway.
Scudda claimed their vehicle was "t-boned by a tractor trailer" after t= heir van skidded in the icy conditions and admitted he feared the worst: = "I saw my entire life flash before my eyes. We at the hospital making sur= e everybody ok!!" All five men were later discharged from the hospital in Randolph and re= turned to their homestate of North Carolina.

ANASTASIO AND GIBB BROTHERS TO INDUCT HALL OF FAME STARS

PHISH star TREY ANASTASIO, BEE GEES crooners BARRY and ROBIN GIBB and rap= per WYCLEF JEAN will be on hand to induct the Class of 2010 into the Rock= and Roll Hall of Fame next month (Mar10).
Guitarist Anastasio will honour British rockers Genesis and the Gibb br= others will induct Swedish pop band ABBA at the upcoming event in New Yor= k.

JOEL TAKING HIATUS, PULLS PLUG ON ELTON TOUR

BILLY JOEL has scrapped plans to continue his U.S. tour with SIR ELTON JO= HN this summer (10) because he wants to take a year-long career break, ac= cording to the ROCKET MAN star.
The rock icons have played a series of concerts together as part of the= ir hugely successful Face-to-Face tour, which was named North America’s t= hird most popular roadshow of 2009, raking in $88 million (=C2=A355 milli= on).
They have scheduled dates up until 11 March (10) and were expected to e= xtend the run through the summer, including a gig at Chicago, Illinois’ f= amous Wrigley Field on 7 July (10).
But John has revealed the show at the baseball venue will not be happen= ing - because Joel is planning a career hiatus.
In an interview with Chicago’s WGN-TV, John says, "As far as I know, th= ere will be no more Billy and Elton shows after the Albany show in New Yo= rk on March 11th.
"It’s not my decision, it’s Billy’s. He has decided to take a year off.= " Joel has endured a difficult few months since his daughter, singer Alex= a Ray Joel, was hospitalised in December (09) after experiencing breathin= g difficulties while taking homeopathic medication Traumeel. She reported= ly took the pills to deal with a severe bout of depression following her = split from her boyfriend.
And while John is saddened about the tour cancellation, he insists he i= s fully supportive of his old pal’s decision.
He adds, "I’m so disappointed because when we came to Wrigley Field las= t year… it was like playing in the church of baseball. I was so delight= ed to be there, and we had such a wonderful two days.
"It (Joel’s hiatus) doesn’t gel with my plans but he’s a friend. And as= an artist, you have to respect his decision."

BETTANY’S GYM STRUGGLE FOR LEGION ROLE

PAUL BETTANY embarked on a drastic six-month exercise regime for his role= in LEGION - and hated every day of the intense workouts.
The Da Vinci Code star was forced to bulk up for the thriller, which se= es him play a fallen angel leading an army of human fighters.
But Bettany admits he struggled to get in shape.
He tells Britain’s Total Film magazine, "Are the abs on my poster real?= Yes! My job for six months was to go into a gym for two hours a day and = then get paid a nice sum of money at the end of it.
"I’m not a gym person but I have a strong work ethic. I promise you the= moment it was over that my abs didn’t look like that anymore. I’ve been = steadily abusing my body with cheese and booze ever since."

POWELL & PRESSBURGER HONOURED AT KARLOVY FILM FEST.

Legendary film partners MICHAEL POWELL and EMERIC PRESSBURGER are set to = be posthumously honoured at the Czech Republic’s Karlovy Vary Internation= al Film Festival.
The British director and Hungarian screenwriter made nearly 20 films to= gether during their partnership and often shared writing, producing and d= irecting credits.
They are often cited as a key influences by filmmakers Martin Scorsese = and Francis Ford Coppola and they will now receive a special tribute at t= he Czech film festival.
The 45th annual event, which runs from 2 to 10 July (10), will celebrat= e Powell and Pressburger’s influence with a retrospective of their works,= which include iconic films A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus, = The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and the Red Shoes.
Oscar-winner Pressburger died of pneumonia in 1988, aged 85; his partne= r, Powell, died in 1990, aged 84.

GANGS PROTECTED SET OF BROOKLYN’S FINEST

Director ANTOINE FUQUA recruited New York gang members to protect stars R= ICHARD GERE, WESLEY SNIPES, DON CHEADLE and ETHAN HAWKE on the set of the= ir new movie BROOKLYN’S FINEST.
The movie follows a trio of drug cops in a rough New York neighbourhood= and was filmed on location in the deprived area of Brownsville.
Fuqua admits he feared for the safety of his cast and crew during the s= hoot.
He tells WENN, "We would be filming and then you’d hear gunfire and peo= ple running up the street. It was very real to be around a lot of that st= uff. We were protected by some gang members that we had relationships wit= h that I talked to. I’d go in and meet with drug dealers, gang members, n= eighbourhood watch people, community centres." But he insists many Brownsville residents grouped together to help Fuqu= a’s efforts, because they wanted to present their neighbourhood in a posi= tive light.
He adds, "The older people, including gang members and drug dealers who= have children now, understand the importance of not letting anything hap= pen in this neighbourhood because their kids get to see something positiv= e. They get to see people showing a work ethic by working on the movie an= d that you don’t have to be the movie star or the director; you can be cr= aft service. So we got a lot of respect."

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "It was a little overwhelming. I don’t = consider myself a model of no type (sic).

ROSS’ EX IDENTIFIED IN 50 CENT SEX TAPE SCANDAL

The woman at the centre of 50 CENT’s sex tape lawsuit has been identified= as the mother of rapper RICK ROSS’ daughter.
The In Da Club hitmaker - real name Curtis Jackson - is facing legal ac= tion from Lastonia Leviston, who alleges he unlawfully released her homem= ade sex clip on the internet after editing himself into the video.
Leviston claims she and former boyfriend Ross made the tape on 30 June = 2008, and he promised to destroy it, according to the New York Post.
But Ross allegedly sold the tape to Jackson, who posted it on his websi= te during a feud with Ross last March (09), blurring out the rapper’s fac= e while altering the footage to depict himself wearing a curly wig and bl= ue robe.
The suit also charges Jackson with making false allegations that Levist= on was a prostitute, alleging the rapper "discussed the video and referre= d to (Leviston) as ‘Brooke’ and called her a ‘call girl’ more than once" = during a December 2009 radio interview.

The Umbrella hitmaker admits she saw her father, Ronald Fenty, taking i= llegal substances when she was a child, but her mother was determined to = protect her from the dangers of drugs.

ALLEN AND LOVE FEUD AT AWARDS SHOW

COURTNEY LOVE continued her feud with LILY ALLEN at an awards show in Lon= don on Wednesday (24Feb10) - the British pop star reportedly left the cer= emony in tears after a vicious bust-up with the rocker.
The Hole frontwoman recently blasted Allen in a series of posts on her = Twitter.com page, accusing the singer of blocking all other stars from we= aring Chanel designs to the BRIT Awards because of her exclusive deal wit= h the brand.
And the ill feeling continued when the pair met at the NME Awards in Lo= ndon on Wednesday night (24Feb10), with Allen fleeing in tears after a fe= rocious war of words with Love, according to NME.com.
A source tells the website the singers were chatting amicably before th= e discussion "turned really nasty, really aggressive and b**chy".
Editors at the website report the pair had to be pulled apart by their = entourages, while Love called Allen a "little girl" and told her "Welcome= to the music industry" before Allen shouted "Why the f**k did you say th= at to me?" and marched out.
Love returned to her Twitter.com page the morning after the ceremony (2= 5Feb10), posting a series of messages which hint at her argument with All= en.
She writes, "Pretty darn rich coming from someone who starts nonsensica= l fights with people out of insecure jealousy on a weekly basis. At least= when I’ve started fights with people its because they f**k w (with) my k= id or f**k w my $ (money).

FORD HATES FAME

HARRISON FORD loathes his celebrity status - because Hollywood has cost h= im his "privacy".
The 67 year old has enjoyed a career spanning more than 40 years, and s= tarred in blockbusters including the Indiana Jones franchise and Star War= s.
But Ford, who is engaged to Calista Flockhart, hates being unable to es= cape the attention of the press and fans.
He says, "There’s nothing good about being famous. You always think, ‘I= f I’m successful, then I’ll have opportunities.’ You never figure the cos= t of fame will be a total loss of privacy. That’s incalculable. What a bu= rden that is for anybody. It was unanticipated and I’ve never enjoyed it.= You can get the table you want in a restaurant. It gets you doctor’s app= ointments. But what’s that worth? Nothing." However, Ford admits there are some benefits to finding fame in the mov= ie industry: "I’m in it for the money. And I mean that in the nicest way = possible. This is my job."
