HENDRICKS: ‘WEIGHT CRITICISM HURT MY FEELINGS’

MAD MEN star CHRISTINA HENDRICKS was hurt by the negative reaction to her= voluptuous figure in the fashion press - insisting the comments left a "= bad taste in her mouth".
The ravishing red-head showed off her curves in a lavish ball gown at l= ast month’s (Jan10) Golden Globes ceremony.
A New York Times style critic was forced to apologise after writing, "b= ig girls shouldn’t wear big dresses". The blogger later insisted the phot= ograph of Hendricks had been accidentally distorted.
The actress was stunned by the talk about her weight - and she’s urging= reporters to focus on her performances rather than her dress size.
She tells New York Magazine, "It kind of hurt my feelings at first. Any= time someone talks about your figure constantly, you get nervous, you get= really self-conscious. I was working my butt off on the show, and then a= ll anyone was talking about was my body! It just leaves a bad taste in my= mouth."

THE HURT LOCKER WINS TOP PRIZE AT EDITORS’ AWARDS

THE HURT LOCKER has collected another industry honour - the movie picked = up the main prize at the American Cinema Editors’ (ACE) Awards on Sunday = (14Feb10).
Kathryn Bigelow’s war film, which is nominated for a string of awards a= t this month’s (Feb10) Oscars, landed the trophy for best editing for a d= ramatic feature at the ceremony.
Hit comedy The Hangover won best editing in a musical/comedy, while Let= hal Weapon director Richard Donner was honoured with the ACE Golden Eddie= Filmmaker of the Year Award.
The award was presented to Donner by the film’s star Mel Gibson at the = event in Beverly Hills.

DION’S NO-SHOW AT WINTER OLYMPICS SPECTACULAR EXPLAINED

CELINE DION skipped the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in her na= tive Canada - because she thought she’d be too pregnant to perform.
Dion’s absence raised questions because many fans expected her to be pa= rt of the spectacular in Vancouver on Friday (12Feb10).

HAWN WANTS TO TEACH BUDDHISM TO BRITISH KIDS

GOLDIE HAWN is in talks to set up a Buddhist school in the United Kingdom= ..
The actress’ Hawn Foundation already teaches kids Buddhist techniques i= n schools across America, and now she wants to take the initiative across= the Atlantic, and use the teachings to help British children build socia= l and emotional stability - and curb violent outbursts in the classroom a= nd playground.
Hawn says, "We need to rethink our whole approach to classroom educatio= n, integrating neuroscience with the latest social and emotional learning= techniques.

SCORSESE AND DE NIRO PLANNING TAXI DRIVER SEQUEL?

MARTIN SCORSESE and ROBERT DE NIRO are planning a sequel to their hit 197= 6 movie TAXI DRIVER, according to industry gossip at the Berlin Internati= onal Film Festival.
The new movie is rumoured to be a collaboration between Scorsese and Da= nish director Lars Von Trier, and will see De Niro reprise his role as tr= oubled New York taxi driver Travis Bickle.
Von Trier and Scorsese, whose new movie Shutter Island premiered at the= German festival on Saturday (13Feb10), have yet to confirm any plans.
But the rumours have been fuelled by Von Trier’s production partner Pet= er Aalbaek, who has revealed an announcement about the project will be ma= de shortly.
Meanwhile, Taxi Driver screenwriter Paul Schrader has provided some ins= ight into the rumoured sequel’s plot, revealing Scorsese has been conside= ring a follow-up film for years.

JENNIFER LOPEZ and MARC ANTHONY are planning to expand their brood in the= near future.

Rockabilly pioneer DALE HAWKINS has lost his battle with colon cancer at = the age of 73.
The singer/songwriter and record producer died on Valentine’s Day (14Fe= b10).
He was perhaps best known for his 1957 hit Susie Q, which was the first= release of a white artist on Chess Records.
The song later became a hit for rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival.=

MAYER WINS SUPPORT OF CHILDREN’S CHARITY BOSS

A representative for a U.S. children’s charity has come to the defence of= JOHN MAYER following his controversial Playboy magazine interview, descr= ibing the rocker as a "kind, caring and compassionate" person.
The singer has come under fire for comments made in the March (10) issu= e of the men’s magazine, in which he used the ‘N’ word when talking about= his African-American fanbase and revealed lurid details about his sex li= fe with ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson.
Mayer has since apologised for his remarks and a childhood friend, Joe = Beleznay, recently came forward to lend his support to the embattled star= , insisting the singer/songwriter’s sense of humour is misunderstood and = "goes over the general public’s head".
Now a spokesperson for The Isaac Foundation, which raises cash for kids= diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, has also given his backing to M= ayer, who has been a longtime supporter of the cause.
In a message on the foundation’s website, entitled ‘In Defense of John = Mayer’, the rep writes, "(Mayer is) someone that I have grown to respect = for the kind, caring, and compassionate person that he truly is.
"I don’t care what Playboy Magazine writes about the man, and I don’t c= are what John says to the journalists that write what they do about him.
"I know he has said things that turn people off. I know he’s said thing= s that make him sound like someone you would never want your children aro= und - ever. But I also know the person that he truly is and the good thi= ngs he tries to accomplish with the celebrity status he’s achieved.
"Write what you want about John, think what you will, but before you ha= nd down your verdict on what kind of person he really is, please consider= the good he has done in his life."

GLENN CLOSE will reprise her stage role in THE SINGULAR LIFE OF ALBERT NO= BBS in a new movie, which she has adapted for the big screen.
The actress played Nobbs in the costume drama in 1982 and won an Obie A= ward for her brief off-Broadway stage stint.
She’s now working on the George Moore tale and has recruited Orlando Bl= oom, Michael Gambon, and Janet McTeer to join her in the film version.
Filmmaker Rodrigo Garcia will direct the project, which is set to start= shooting in July (10). Close will also produce the film.
The plot revolves around a 19th Century Irish woman who disguises herse= lf as a man in order to make a success of her life.

BURTON’S ALICE FACES LIMITED RELEASE IN HOLLAND

TIM BURTON’s fantasy film ALICE IN WONDERLAND is facing a boycott from ci= nema bosses in Holland over plans to release the movie on DVD just three = months after it hits theatres.
The Disney production, which stars Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, is du= e to open in the country on 10 March (10) - but Dutch cinema owners are r= efusing to show the film amid fears they will lose out on big box office = bucks because fans will opt to wait for the early DVD release.
Youry Bredewold, a spokesman for the National Board of Cinema Owners, s= ays, "The four big cinema houses, Minerva, Pathe, Wolff and Jogchems - re= presenting between 80 and 85 percent of all cinemas in the Netherlands - = have decided not to show the film.
"Disney is not keeping its part of the bargain. There is an agreement b= etween movie distributors and cinema owners that there must be a window o= f at least four months between the cinema release and the DVD release." Bredewold admits the movie theatres will lose out by snubbing the highl= y-anticipated release altogether, but insists it’s the principle that cou= nts.
He adds, "We will lose money due to our decision; we expected this to b= ecome one of the most popular movies of 2010. But we decided we need to s= end a message to the whole industry: if you don’t accept our terms we wil= l never show your movies again."

JOLIE & PITT SPEND VALENTINE’S DAY WITH SPECIAL FAMILY DINNER

ANGELINA JOLIE went back in time for a family Valentine’s Day treat - the= actress and her partner BRAD PITT took their three eldest kids out to di= nner at the fancy restaurant the TOMB RAIDER star has been a fan of since= she was two.
The Hollywood couple celebrated the most romantic day of the year at Lo= s Angeles’ Benihana restaurant.
A source tells Life & Style magazine, "Angie’s been coming in here sinc= e she was two years old. She’d come here with her parents and brother and= loved to sit at the table and watch the chefs cook her shrimp.
"This time she came with Brad, Maddox, Pax and Zahara. She obviously to= ok great joy in re-creating the experience of her childhood as the childr= en enjoyed the spectacle of the food being cooked. MARTIN CALLS FOR ACTION AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKERS

Singer RICKY MARTIN returned to his native Puerto Rico on Monday (15Feb10= ) to urge government officials to combat the growing problem of human tra= fficking in the Caribbean territory.
The Livin’ La Vida Loca star presented a study undertaken by his Ricky = Martin Foundation - a charity for children’s rights - at the University o= f Puerto Rico. He explained the country has become a hub for those involv= ed in the illegal sex, imprisonment and kidnapping trade.
He told assembled committee members, "This is happening on our island. = We cannot turn our back on the victims." Luis Cdebaca, director of the U.S. State Department’s division of human= -trafficking monitoring, thanked the singer for his efforts to highlight = the problem.
