CAMPBELL PLANNING HAITI FUNDRAISER FOR LONDON FASHION WEEK

Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL is building on the success of her charity fashi= on show in New York on Friday (12Feb10) - by staging a follow-up event to= kick off London Fashion Week.
The British beauty organised the Fashion for Relief Haiti show as part = of New York Fashion Week to raise money for aid efforts in the earthquake= -hit Caribbean nation, roping in pals including Chris Brown, Malin Akerma= n and singer Estelle.
And Campbell is now planning a second gala with star names to raise fun= ds for mothers and new babies in Haiti.
She says, "I am deeply saddened by the recent tragedy in Haiti. So many= have been killed and severely affected by the earthquake - women and chi= ldren in particular are most vulnerable in disasters. Fashion is universa= l, personal and touches everyone." The model is also teaming up with bosses of luxury carmaker Lotus, who = have designed eight special edition vehicles named Naomi for Haiti. One o= f the cars will be auctioned off during the show, with the other seven be= ing sold online at www.naomiforhaiti.com from Friday (19Feb10).
Campbell adds, "I am delighted that Lotus Cars is supporting my Fashion= for Relief charity and I am sure with such generous help we will raise c= rucial funds to help save the lives of women and children."

DE NIRO LANDS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT HONOUR

ROBERT DE NIRO was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his fou= r-decade long career at a lavish ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday night= (16Feb10).
The star made his first movie in the 1960s and has won two Oscars and a= Golden Globe during his glittering career - and editors at AARP The Maga= zine picked De Niro to receive the annual lifetime trophy.
Jeff Bridges won Best Actor for his role in Crazy Heart, and Dame Helen= Mirren took Best Actress for The Last Station. Alec Baldwin (It’s Compli= cated) scooped Best Supporting Actor while his ex-wife Kim Basinger (The = Burning Plain) won Best Supporting Actress.
Invictus, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman, was n= amed the Best Movie for Grownups by bosses at the publication, which is a= imed at the over 50s, while Julie & Julia landed the Best Grownup Love St= ory nod.
Bill Newcott, entertainment editor of the magazine, says: "In 2009, 50+= actors and filmmakers took center-stage on the silver screen, turning in= performances and films that were riveting and nothing short of daring. T= ackling war, apartheid, sexuality and adding real depth to romantic comed= ies, the 50+ Hollywood community shows once again that they are an integr= al, much-needed element of the film industry. MILLS’ ANGER AT THERAPY SESSION

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s ex-wife HEATHER MILLS was determined to set up a sup= port group for amputees after a counsellor declared she would never be "a= s attractive to men" after losing her leg.
The charity campaigner has worn a prosthetic limb since her left leg wa= s amputated following a motorcycle accident in 1993.
She decided to try therapy to help her overcome the trauma - but was so= upset by the counsellor’s methods, she decided to set up her own organis= ation to help amputees.
Mills says, "She said, ‘You do realise you won’t be as attractive to me= n,’ and I just looked at this woman and said, ‘Listen, dear, if both my a= rms and legs were missing, I’d still be more attractive than you,’ and sh= e just slammed her text book down and off she went.
"That was my experience of counselling and I thought this is ridiculous= and that’s when I started to counsel amputees from atrocities, war zones= and cancer."

WOOD TO LAUNCH EX IVANOVA’S MUSIC CAREER?

ROLLING STONES rocker RONNIE WOOD is helping his ex-girlfriend EKATERINA = IVANOVA to launch her music career, according to reports.
The musician split from wife Jo in 2008 after he embarked on a whirlwin= d romance with the 21 year old former waitress, but the pair split in Dec= ember (09) after Wood was cautioned for assault following a public bust-u= p between the pair.
The former couple has remained friends - and the Rolling Stone was spot= ted leaving Ivanova’s house last week (begs08Feb10), sparking rumours of = a reconciliation.
Now Wood is set to write music for his Russian ex to help her break int= o the industry, according to Britain’s Daily Express.
A source tells the publication, "Katia is an ambitious girl and she and= Ronnie have discussed her going into music. Ronnie knows the business be= tter than most and there’s talk of him writing some material for her. Ron= nie’s at his happiest making music. If that also involves Katia, all the = better for him."

KASABIAN CELEBRATE BRIT AWARD WITH CHARITY GIG

Rockers KASABIAN crowned their BRIT Award win on Tuesday night (16Feb10) = with a charity concert in London.
The Fire hitmakers fought off competition from Muse, Doves, Friendly Fi= res and JLS to gain the coveted Best British Group honour at the annual p= rizegiving.

BAD LIEUTENANT RESOLVE VISA ISSUES FOR NEW TOUR

Former NEW ORDER star BERNARD SUMNER’s new group BAD LIEUTENANT are looki= ng forward to their upcoming U.S. tour after finally resolving work visa = issues which forced them to postpone the shows.
The band, which also features Phil Cunningham and Jake Evans, was due t= o support the Pixies in Chicago, Illinois and New York in November (09) -= but had to pull out of the gigs due to immigration issues.
But the band is now busily preparing for its April (10) shows, after so= rting out the appropriate work documents.

LEWIS BRANDS FUR STORE BOSSES ‘BACKWARDS’

Singer LEONA LEWIS has branded bosses of Britain’s biggest department sto= re Harrods "backwards" - for refusing to ban fur from their shelves.
The Bleeding Love hitmaker turned down a $1.6 million (=C2=A31 million)= offer to launch the London store’s summer sale in 2008 over its policy o= n stocking animal products.
And she’s still seething that the company’s bosses have not taken actio= n to remove animal pelts from shelves, despite her public snub.
Vegetarian Lewis tells Britain’s Smooth Radio West Midlands, "Yeah they= did offer me money to open the sale but I said no because they stock fur= .. They’re one of the few places that still do it. I just think it’s so ba= ckwards, it’s very evil and cruel. I definitely stand up for what I belie= ve in when it comes to animal rights." Earlier this month (Feb10), Lewis convinced organisers of the BRIT Awar= ds to remove foie gras from the event’s menu after threatening to boycott= the ceremony.

FLOWERS’ MOTHER DIES

THE KILLERS’ recent concert cancellations have been explained - frontman = BRANDON FLOWERS’ mum has died after a two-year battle with cancer.
Jean Flowers passed away last Thursday (11Feb10) aged 64, after she was= diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008.
The band had cited the "severity of the illness of a close family membe= r" for scrapping several concerts in Australia earlier this month (Feb10)= ..
They pulled out of a show in Sydney on Friday night (12Feb10), as well = as an appearance at the Good Vibrations music festival in Sydney and Pert= h over the weekend (12-14Feb10).
It came just weeks after the band axed its January (10) tour of Asia du= e to "unforeseen" circumstances.
Flowers had not commented on his mother’s passing as WENN went to press= ..

WHITE HONOURED BY ANIMAL CHARITY

Veteran actress BETTY WHITE has been honoured for her tireless animal cha= rity work at a ceremony in Las Vegas.
The Golden Girls star received a lifetime achievement award from the Mo= rris Animal Foundation earlier this month (Feb10).
In honour of White’s continued support of the charity, American company= P&G Pet Care donated $10,000 (=C2=A36,250) to the American Veterinary Me= dical Foundation.

HUDGENS NAMED STAR OF TOMORROW

Actress VANESSA HUDGENS will be honoured with the ShoWest Female Star of = Tomorrow award at the annual cinema owners convention in Las Vegas in Mar= ch (10).

MCQUEEN DIED OF ASPHYXIATION

Tragic fashion designer ALEXANDER MCQUEEN died after hanging himself in a= wardrobe at his London home, an inquest has heard.
The star’s body was found on Thursday (11Feb10) and a post-mortem exami= nation has ruled he died as a result of asphyxiation and hanging.
During a five-minute hearing on Wednesday (17Feb10), officials at Westm= inster Coroner’s Court heard McQueen wrote a farewell note prior to his d= eath and that there were "no suspicious circumstances".
The inquest was adjourned until 28 April (10).
Speculation has been rife about McQueen’s death, with some reports clai= ming he was struggling to come to terms with the loss of his mum Joyce, w= ho passed away earlier this month (Feb10), while others cite a recent rel= ationship breakdown as the reason behind his shock passing. (CL/WNWCCB/ZN=

NICK & JOE JONAS FIGHT FOR KIDS’ CHOICE AWARD

JOE JONAS and his brother NICK will battle it out at the upcoming Nickelo= deon Kids’ Choice Awards after both were nominated for a top honour.

HOUNDED PATTINSON STRUGGLED TO STAY IN CHARACTER

RIHANNA: ‘I USED RATED R TO VENT’

RIHANNA’s latest album RATED R was her most emotional work to date - the = star admits she was "venting" her personal issues on the record.

DICAPRIO FEELS PRESSURE OF STAYING HOT IN HOLLYWOOD

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO understands the struggle some Hollywood legends face wh= en their career start to wane - insisting it’s easy for stars to become d= etached from reality.

MCCARTNEY HOPES ABBEY ROAD CAN BE SAVED

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY hopes the recording studio famously used by the BEATLE= S can be saved - after it was put up for sale by record label giant EMI.
The Abbey Road recording facilities in North West London became synonym= ous with the Fab Four, with the band even naming their 1969 album after t= he building. The record’s cover shot featured the Beatles crossing the ro= ad outside.
Fans across the world have since flocked to the landmark, and the studi= o has also been used by music greats including Michael Jackson, U2, Green= Day and Pink Floyd.
Bosses at EMI - who own the studios - have decided to try and recoup mo= ney lost in recent years by selling the property, which is expected to be= worth an estimated $20 million (=C2=A312.5 million).
And McCartney has expressed his concern over the sale - revealing that = a consortium is desperately trying to come up with the cash to save it.
He tells the BBC, "There are a few people who have been associated with= the studio for a long time who were talking about mounting some bid to s= ave it. I sympathise with them. I hope they can do something, it’d be gre= at."

The Pretty Girls star reacted to online gossip he had been axed from th= e company’s roster, after a fan asked if the rumours were true.

ASHANTI’S MUM SPEAKS OUT ABOUT LOSING ALBUM CHART RECORD TO BOYLE=20

Singer/songwriter ASHANTI’s manager mum is still sore about SUSAN BOYLE’s= album success in America - because the Scottish sensation shattered her = daughter’s eight-year-old chart records.
Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream ended the R&B star’s biggest debut sales week= for a female on the Billboard countdown. The middle-aged singer’s five w= eeks at number one also shattered Ashanti’s three week record with a debu= t - a mark she shared with Lauryn Hill.
And, although she’s delighted with Boyle’s success, Ashanti’s mother, T= ina Douglas, is keen to remind music fans of the struggle she and her dau= ghter had to go through to get to the top of the charts in 2002.
She tells WENN, "It’s a double-edge sword… We were happy for her (Boy= le) but Ashanti held onto that record for eight years and that was a big = feat to accomplish with the music industry the way it is.
"This is my personal opinion: people wanna be successful and they’re go= nna take whatever route that they can. At the end of the day, before Asha= nti blew up in 2002, it took me nine years of struggling with three recor= d deals that failed. It was a struggle, it was hard, but it built charact= er.
"I’m not gonna knock anyone who has their hustle, and that’s what I’m c= alling it… It’s a little bit different, but we’re blessed to be where w= e are. Ashanti’s talent speaks for itself. In the next year or two we’ll = be looking to break other records."
