POLANSKI COMPLETED NEW FILM BEHIND BARS
Embattled moviemaker ROMAN POLANSKI edited his new film THE GHOST WRITER = from a jail cell in Switzerland, according to the film’s stars PIERCE BRO= SNAN and EWAN MCGREGOR.
The director was arrested and detained on a 32-year-old sex crime charg= e last year (Sep09) - before work on the new film had been completed.
Ever the professional, the exiled filmmaker, who is now under house arr= est at his chalet in Gstaad, Switzerland, made arrangements to complete t= he film behind bars.
Brosnan tells CNN, "He would be in his nine-foot by four-foot cell, edi= t the movie and give it to the warden. The warden would give it to his la= wyer (who would) then give it to the editor." McGregor adds, "I think he had no other option." Polanski, who is fighting extradition to America - where he faces sente= ncing for a 1978 charge of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a mino= r, was unable to attend the film’s recent premiere at the Berlin Film Fes= tival in Germany, but he staged an intimate screening at his house.
At one point, McGregor feared another director would be commissioned to= complete Polanski’s film: "I thought it would be a great pity to be in t= he only Polanski film that wasn’t finished by Polanski."
