PRINCE SUED FOR $2.3 MILLION OVER CANCELLED CONCERT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

Pop superstar PRINCE is facing a $2.3 million (=C2=A31.5 million) lawsuit= over a cancelled concert in Dublin, Ireland.
The Purple Rain hitmaker was slated to perform at the Croke Park concer= t in June 2008, but he reportedly pulled out of the show just 10 days bef= ore.
Bosses at promotions company MCD are seeking compensation for financial= loss and damage to commercial reputation from Prince, full name Prince R= ogers Nelson, as well as his agents at the California-based William Morri= s Endeavour Entertainment.
The singer has blamed his agents for booking the event without permissi= on, but they argue the star cancelled the gig and gave "no reason of subs= tance" for deciding to pull out.
The case went before a judge at Dublin’s Commercial Court on Tuesday (2= 3Feb10), when MCD’s Denis Desmond explained promoters would have never pu= t tickets up for sale if they thought Prince would cancel the show.
He also claimed he had no reason to doubt William Morris agents, becaus= e the firm is one of the two biggest agencies in the world.
MCD allegedly paid half of Prince’s requested $3 million (=C2=A31.9 mil= lion) fee to William Morris, as well as $949,760 (=C2=A3593,600) to use t= he Croke Park location.
William Morris executives claim the decision to scrap the show was outs= ide of their control and they returned the $1.5 million (=C2=A3970,874) b= ooking fee to MCD.
They have denied negligence, breach of duty or misrepresentation.
Justice Peter Kelly, who is overseeing the case, has been asked to deci= de whether Prince’s agents or the artist himself is liable to compensate = MCD.
The case continues.
