JONES CREDITS BOWIE WITH AWARDS TRIUMPH
DUNCAN JONES has credited his rocker dad DAVID BOWIE after scooping a top= honour at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards= ..
Filmmaker Jones took the prize for Outstanding Debut by a British Write= r, Director or Producer for his hit sci-fi movie Moon at the ceremony on = Sunday night (21Feb10).
He has thanked his father Bowie for inspiring his love of sci-fi - by f= illing his childhood with space-age movies.
Jones says, "As far as sci-fi goes, one of the things my dad did an awf= ul lot of was show me quite a few films when I was growing up, just getti= ng me interested in the literature and in the sort of canon of sci-fi.
"It’s an area I have always loved, so I probably saw most of Stanley Ku= brick’s films when I was eight or nine years old, with my dad sitting the= re next to me, making sure that I didn’t get terrified. I think my intere= st in sci-fi really comes from my dad being a dad, as opposed to the work= that he did."
