AUTHOR KIRN LANDS OSCAR SEAT
The novelist whose story inspired JASON REITMAN’s Oscar-nominated movie U= P IN THE AIR has been offered a seat at the ceremony next to GEORGE CLOON= EY, after launching a bitter tirade at Academy Award bosses for failing t= o invite him.
Walter Kirn logged on to Twitter.com last week, slamming Paramount boss= es for snubbing him ahead of the 7 March (10) event. The film is nominate= d for six awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
In a message Kirn posted on Wednesday (17Feb10), Kirn wrote, "Caution t= o writers: Don’t expect that because you write a novel that becomes an Os= car-nominated film that you’ll be invited to the Oscars. Novelists are li= ke oil in H’wood (Hollywood): they drill us, pipeline us, pump us and the= n burn us." But movie bosses have moved quickly to settle the issue, giving Kirn a = prime seat next to the film’s star, Clooney.
Kirn confirmed his invitation via Twitter.com on Friday (19Feb10), writ= ing: "Thanks to Paramount Pictures for coming through with Oscar tickets = and proving true to its word, which I shouldn’t have doubted." (JMA/PYN/I=
