MCQUEEN’S LABEL WILL GO ON
Bosses of ALEXANDER MCQUEEN’s clothing company have vowed to continue the= brand in honour of the late designer.
The tragic fashion icon was found hanged at his apartment in London las= t week (11Feb10), and a post-mortem later confirmed he had died from asph= yxiation.
The fashion and showbiz worlds were plunged into mourning by the popula= r designer’s death - but the owners of his fashion company confirmed on T= hursday (18Feb10) that his name will live on in the industry.
In a moving tribute, Francois Henri-Pinault, chairman of holding compan= y PPW, called McQueen a "pure genius" and a "poet".
He says, "You understand, the Alexander McQueen trademark will live on.= Fashion has lost one of its extraordinary people. He was one of the fall= ing stars that comes across our generation. He is a person we will miss e= normously." Robert Polet, president of PPW subsidiary The Gucci Group - which owns = a 50 per cent stake in the Alexander McQueen label - adds, "We believe in= the future of the brand." It has not yet been announced whether McQueen’s upcoming show in Paris = next month (Mar10) will go ahead.
