CLINTON: ‘I WAS VERY, VERY LUCKY’
Former U.S. President BILL CLINTON has opened up about his recent heart s= urgery, blaming a lifetime of unhealthy eating for the medical scare.
The 63 year old checked into Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian H= ospital last week (ends14Feb10) after complaining of chest pains, and doc= tors operated last Thursday (11Feb10) to unblock a coronary artery.
Clinton, who underwent a quadruple heart bypass in 2004, was released f= rom doctors’ care last Friday (12Feb10).
And now the former American leader is urging children to eat healthily = and exercise more, because he could have avoided heart surgery if he had = improved his diet.
He says, "I’m very, very lucky that I didn’t have a much worse set of c= ircumstances. Everybody knows I went to the doctor last week for a little= tune up on my heart. I’m glad to be back to work.
"The root causes were the habits I acquired in my childhood, mostly the= way I ate and the way it interacted with my own biology and propensity t= o produce bad cholesterol. I ate too much fried food, too much ice cream,= too much everything."
