JULIANNE MOORE is nursing her 12-year-old son back to health after he bro= ke his wrist in a snowboarding accident.
Caleb, The Hours actress’ son with director husband Bart Freundlich, ha= s become a big winter sports enthusiast growing up in New York.
But he was forced to take some time off from the slopes after crushing = his wrist in a fall during a recent excursion.
Moore says, "My son is an active snowboarder and he just broke his wris= t snowboarding." The concerned mum insists the teen is recovering quickly - but she’s mo= re concerned about her son’s hygiene than his broken bones She laughs, "Let me tell you - nothing compares to the smell of a 12-ye= ar-old’s cast when it comes off. They just emanate an odour at 12 - it’s = incomparable."

RIHANNA AND ROWLAND’S GIRL PAL LOSES LEUKAEMIA FIGHT

The cancer-stricken girl who inspired RIHANNA and KELLY ROWLAND to issue = emotional appeals for bone marrow donors has lost her battle with leukaem= ia.
Six-year-old Jasmina Anema captured the hearts of the public as she bra= vely fought a rare and deadly form of the disease.
Anema was diagnosed with the illness in January, 2009 and befriended th= e singers as they called on fans to register as bone marrow donors to hel= p find a potential match.
A suitable donor was found and the youngster received a bone marrow tra= nsplant last year (09).
But she was admitted to New York University’s Langone Medical Center on= Monday night (25Jan10), suffering from fevers and shortness of breath.
She was subsequently diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs and passed = away on Wednesday night (27Jan10), reports People.com.

SOUTH KOREA’S RAIN CLEARED IN U.S. CONCERT DISPUTE

South Korean singer RAIN has been handed victory in a breach of contract = legal dispute after a judge ruled he was not responsible for causing the = cancellation of his 2006-2007 U.S. tour.
The star, real name Jung Ji-Hoon, and bosses at his agency JYP Entertai= nment were sued for $3.95 million (=C2=A32.5 million) by promoters Wellma= de STARM last year (09).
Wellmade executives claimed Rain owed them damages because he pulled ou= t of 16 shows on his doomed U.S. tour, while the singer argued the stage = had not been properly prepared for the gigs.
He also told the South Korean court how the roadshow was marred by a co= pyright infringement claim made against him by an American Beatles tribut= e band, also called Rain, preventing him from using the stage name in the= States.
However, the longrunning lawsuit came to an end on Thursday (28Jan10) w= hen Judge Bae Kwang-Kuk ruled in favour of the Asian star, blaming poor p= reparations by the concert’s U.S. promoters for the scrapped shows. (MT/W=

BACKSTREET BOYS CAUSE FURORE OVER ROCK FESTIVAL

Pop group THE BACKSTREET BOYS have sparked outrage among heavy metal fans= in India after it was announced they will follow IRON MAIDEN as a headli= ner for the upcoming Rock In India festival.
The event marked the first ever rock festival in India when it kicked o= ff in 2008, with Megadeth and Machine Head playing top of the bill. Iron = Maiden took the stage in 2009.
But festival organisers have taken an abrupt turn from the heavy metal = genre, booking The Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx for the 2010 line up.
Local music critics have blasted organisers for the shift, but festival= bosses are standing by their decision to book the ageing teen sensations= ..

JONAS BROTHERS singer JOE JONAS has brushed off rumours the group is spli= tting up after younger brother NICK took a time out to form his new band = THE ADMINISTRATION.
The youngest Lovebug hitmaker debuted Nick Jonas and The Administration= in November (09) and 20-year-old Joe admits he too has started writing h= is own music, sparking rumours of an impending solo project.
But Joe insists they have no plans to disband the group they share with= older brother Kevin.

PEARL JAM DONATE $200,000 TO HAITI RELIEF EFFORT

Rockers PEARL JAM are to donate $200,000 (=C2=A3125,000) to the Haiti ear= thquake relief effort.
Charities Partners in Health, Doctors Without Borders and The Lambi Fun= d of Haiti will be among the agencies benefitting from the cash, accordin= g to the band’s website.
Frontman Eddie Vedder has also released a live rendition of Bruce Sprin= gsteen’s My City In Ruins as a digital single to raise further cash and b= andmate Mike McCready will be among the stars performing at A Hootenany f= or Haiti in Seattle, Washington on 28 February (10).

CHINESE OFFICIALS DENY AVATAR MOUNTAIN HONOUR

Chinese officials have laughed off reports they have renamed a mountain a= fter JAMES CAMERON’s sci-fi hit AVATAR, insisting posters suggesting a na= me-change were simply part of a promotional stunt.
Reports surfaced on Tuesday (26Jan10) alleging South Sky Pillar in Zhan= gjianjie, southern China would now be known as Avatar Hallelujah Mountain= on maps and guides because of its likeness to the peaks featured in the = blockbuster film.
But the head of the city’s tourism department, Ding Yunyong, has played= down the claims.
He says, "We just put a poster of two pictures comparing South Sky Pill= ar with Hallelujah Mountain to show people evidence that the Avatar mount= ain originated here. It is a source of pride to Zhangjiajie." However, state reports allege authorities backtracked over plans to off= icially rename the mountain after the idea provoked outrage from locals.
The Xinhua news agency claims Chinese citizens attacked the plans and "= accused officials of being money-oriented and blindly worshipping Western= culture".
Avatar made history this week (begs25Jan10) when the movie toppled Came= ron’s other blockbuster, Titanic, as the highest-grossing movie of all ti= me.

LUCAS WORKING ON FAIRY MUSICAL

GEORGE LUCAS is set to tackle another new genre - the STAR WARS director = is developing his first musical.
The untitled computer-animated film is in pre-production at Lucas’ Skyw= alker Ranch production facility in Marin County, California, according to= the Hollywood Reporter.
The musical marks a rare step outside the Star Wars universe for the fi= lmmaker, who last directed Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith i= n 2005.
Elf writer David Berenbaum wrote the screenplay, which is tightly under= wraps but is rumoured to feature fairies.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Kevin Munroe is directing the project, wh= ich is expected to feature songs from a variety of sources.
A Lucasfilm spokesperson says it is "too early to comment on the detail= s of the project".

RENEE ZELLWEGER has escaped unscathed following a car crash in California= ..
The actress parked her Toyota Prius roadside in the Pacific Palisades d= istrict of Los Angeles at 9am local time on Thursday (28Jan10).
But when she opened the door to climb out of the driver’s seat, it was = struck by another passing vehicle.
Zellweger was not injured in the accident and she wasn’t left stranded = for long - the actress’ boyfriend Bradley Cooper came to her rescue momen= ts later to offer her a ride, according to TMZ.com.

SALINGER DEAD AT 91

Beloved U.S. author J.D. SALINGER has died at the age of 91.
According to the writer’s son, Salinger passed away of natural causes a= t his home in New Hampshire on Wednesday (27Jan10).
The author is best known for his iconic 1951 novel The Catcher in the R= ye, which spawned literary anti-hero Holden Caulfield, and reportedly ins= pired Mark David Chapman to shoot and kill John Lennon in 1980.
Salinger also wrote the novel Franny and Zooey, and the acclaimed novel= las Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour - An Introduction.
His last published story, Hapworth 16, 1928, ran in The New Yorker in 1= 965.
In the last 30 years, the author turned into a recluse, who was rarely = seen in public.
Born Jerome David Salinger on 1 January, 1919, in New York, the trouble= d youngster was sent to Valley Forge Military Academy as a teen and later= served in the U.S. Army.
He published his first piece of fiction, The Young Folks, in Story maga= zine in 1940.
Last year (09), Salinger sued to halt publication of John David Califor= nia’s 60 Years Later - an unauthorised sequel to Catcher in the Rye that = revisited Holden Caulfield as an old man.

CRUZ AND BARDEM’S DONATION VOW TO HAITI SCHOOLS

Hollywood couple PENELOPE CRUZ and JAVIER BARDEM are digging deep to help= the victims of earthquake-ravaged Haiti - they’ve each promised to donat= e $50,000 (=C2=A331,250)-a-year until 2015 to rebuild the country’s schoo= ls.
The Spanish stars joined British writer/director Paul Haggis at his Los= Angeles home on Sunday (24Jan10) when he hosted a celebrity brunch for h= is charitable organisation Artists for Peace and Justice to raise funds f= or Haiti.
Cruz and Bardem were among 100 guests including Nicole Kidman, Charlize= Theron, Maria Bello and Gerard Butler at the event, where they were trea= ted to a performance by Sheryl Crow, reports People magazine.
The brunch raised $4.5 million (=C2=A32.8 million) for the Caribbean na= tion’s relief effort - including Cruz and Bardem’s personal promises to s= upport the country as it works to rebuild its school system.
Haggis, who has been doing charity work in Haiti for years, founded Art= ists for Peace and Justice with a group of friends last year (09) to impr= ove schools and hospitals and help provide locals with access to clean dr= inking water.
The actress’ five-year pledge comes less than two weeks after the Nine = beauty paid tribute to Haggis at the Golden Globe Awards, when she praise= d him for snubbing the red carpet to fly to Haiti and help relief workers= ..
She told E! News, "We are very lucky to be here, celebrating cinema… = but it’s impossible to think about anything else than the terrible disast= er that is going on in Haiti.

RIHANNA: ‘WE MESSED UP THE 2009 GRAMMYS’

RIHANNA understands why organisers didn’t ask her to perform at the upcom= ing Grammy Awards - after her bust-up with ex CHRIS BROWN forced her to p= ull out of the 2009 event.
Both stars were due to sing at the prestigious ceremony in February 200= 9 but they cancelled their slots at the last minute after Brown left Riha= nna battered and bruised.
The Umbrella hitmaker has since returned to the spotlight by releasing = her fourth album, Rated R, in November (09) and fans had called for her t= o seal her comeback with a slot at the 2010 Grammys.
But Rihanna insists she won’t be taking the stage after she and Brown c= aused the producers so much hassle last year.

DOHERTY ‘DEVASTATED’ OVER FILM-MAKER’S DEATH

British rocker PETE DOHERTY is "shocked and saddened" over the mystery de= ath of his film-maker pal ROBYN WHITEHEAD, according to a representative = for the star.
Whitehead, a member of the Goldsmith dynasty, was discovered at an east= London apartment on Sunday night (24Jan10) by musician Peter Wolfe, who = lives at the property.
Initial reports suggested the 27 year old had died from a suspected dru= g overdose - but police announced on Thursday (28Jan10) that a post morte= m was inconclusive and officials are awaiting the results of toxicology t= ests before they can determine the cause of death.
Whitehead had recently completed a documentary about Doherty’s former b= and The Libertines - and the rocker has extended his sympathies to her fa= mily.
A spokesman for the star says, "Peter Doherty was shocked and saddened = to hear of the tragic death of Robyn Whitehead. Peter wishes to convey hi= s condolences to Robyn’s family and her close friends at this very diffic= ult time." Telling of the moment he found Whitehead’s body, Wolfe says: "I tried t= o wake her up. She looked very peaceful and that’s when I called the ambu= lance. I loved her. We’d been working on a project and stayed up all nigh= t. Robyn was beautiful. I’m devastated and Pete is absolutely devastated.= "

SIGUR ROS DISCARD NEW ALBUM

Icelandic rockers SIGUR ROS are set to head back into the studio - after = scrapping all the work completed for their new album.
The group was said to have been near completing a follow-up to 2008’s M= eo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust last May (09) - but they’ve started o= ver after throwing out a number of tracks.
Frontman Jonsi Birgisson tells SpinnerMusic.co.uk, "We haven’t got anot= her album ready - It was just a rumour. We started to record something, b= ut then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start = it all again." Birgisson has also warned fans they may be in for a long wait before th= ey hear new music from the band, adding: "We are on a break at the moment= .. Everybody in the band is having babies."
