N-DUBZ FURY OVER BRITS SNUB

British rap group N-DUBZ have blasted Brit Award organisers for snubbing = homegrown talent in favour of American acts at this year’s (10) ceremony.
The Playing With Fire hitmakers are only nominated for one award at nex= t month’s (Feb10) bash, for their collaboration with Tinchy Stryder.
And they’re convinced they deserve more.
Bandmember Tulisa says, "It was a bit of a cheap cop-out really because= it’s a ‘featuring’ song - it’s not actually our song.
"Sometimes I think (organisers) defeat the object of the Brits - the Br= itish awards.
"They’ve got a lot of American acts coming through, and acts like us wh= o’ve worked ten years and finally done something for the urban part of th= e music industry, they just ignore us, and you have all the Lady GaGas on= stage."

IRON MAIDEN AUCTION MEMORABILIA FOR CHARITY=20

British rockers IRON MAIDEN have proved their generosity to their most lo= yal followers - by donating memorabilia to an online charity auction acce= ssible only to members of the band’s fan club.
Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood is training for a fundraising bike ri= de in Egypt later this month (Jan10) to raise money for Childline and Nor= doff Robbins Music Therapy, which gives disabled children a musical outle= t.
And the Run to the Hills hitmakers are lending a hand, by auctioning me= morabilia including rocker Adrian Smith’s guitar, a signed poster for the= DVD release of their Flight 666 tour, and a personalised USA platinum di= sc - the proceeds of which will go to the two charities.
. The 15-day auction, which kicks off on 2 February (10), is exclusivel= y open to members of the band’s fan club on IronMaiden.com.
Smallwood tells Blabbermouth.net: "This is a twist on us ‘getting off o= ur backsides’ and doing something to really help as we will be staying on= them most of the time, propelling our mountain bikes forward to raise as= much money as we can for these two very deserving children’s charities."=

JANE’S ADDICTION RETURN TO THE STUDIO TO TRY AGAIN

Reunited rockers JANE’S ADDICTION are refusing to abandon their comeback = despite a series of in-band fights - and are returning to the studio to w= rite their first new material in seven years.
The band reunited in 2008 after Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor c= onvinced them to join him on tour - and they revealed plans to hit the st= udio.
Recording sessions didn’t go well, and vocalist Perry Farrell revealed = he frequently fought with bandmates.
He said, "’ll be honest with you, we started to record and things got k= ind of ugly. You know, it’s one of those things where the headbutting rea= lly came out when we tried to write and people were like, ‘Well, I don’t = like that…’" But Farrell isn’t giving up, and revealed the band entered the studio o= n Monday (18Jan10) - in response to a fan’s question about whether the gr= oup would write new songs on the Jane’s Addiction’s Facebook page.
Farrell answered: =E2=80=9CMonday we get together to write new music an= d craft a future.=E2=80=9D He adds, "I’m very patient, because it’s only been, what, eighteen year= s, so I can’t expect things overnight to be perfect."

SURVIVOR STAR LOSES CANCER BATTLE AT 37

SURVIVOR TV star JENNIFER LYON has lost her battle with breast cancer, ag= ed 37.
Lyon appeared on the U.S. competition’s tenth season on the Pacific isl= and of Palau in 2005.
She was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer that same year after p= lacing fourth in the series, and used her celebrity to advocate for breas= t cancer awareness and fundraising.
Lyon underwent a double mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy treatment,= but died at her home in Oregon on Tuesday (19Jan10).

SAW VI DIRECTOR HIRED FOR PARANORMAL ACTIVITY SEQUEL

Horror director OREN PELI has bowed out of directing the follow-up to his= hit cult film PARANORMAL ACTIVITY - SAW VI director KEVIN GREUTERT has s= tepped in to helm the sequel.
Peli shot the film in his bedroom and created all the special effects u= sing his home computer after a series of eerie sleepless nights at his ho= use in southern California inspired the project.
It quickly become a box office sensation, returning a staggering $100 m= illion (GBP62.5 million) on his budget of just $15,000 (GBP10,000).
Peli is handing over the project to Greutert while taking the role of p= roducer with partner Jason Blum, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Par= amount has also hired House and Law & Order: SVU writer Michael R. Perry = to script the sequel.
But Peli insists Greutert is the perfect choice to take his place behin= d the camera. He says, "These guys get it, and the fans won=E2=80=99t be = disappointed." The as yet untitled follow-up is set for release on 22 October (10). (J=

WINSTONE BROKE RIBS ON BEOWULF SET

British actor RAY WINSTONE got so carried away filming his own stunts for= 2007 movie BEOWULF, he broke his ribs during a fight scene.
The Departed star spent a day dangling from a harness shooting an actio= n sequence for the film, in which he played the title role.
And Winstone admits his overly enthusiastic acting ended in injuries.
He says, "I love having tear-ups in films. I got really injured filming= Beowulf. I was swinging on wires pretending to kill this dragon and smas= hed into the set and broke a load of ribs. I get carried away - silly as = a bag of boll**ks."

MAYER GOES BACK TO HIS EXES

JOHN MAYER has resolved to revive his relationships with ex-girlfriends, = because he can’t be bothered to woo new women.
The rocker has dated stars including Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson,= Minka Kelly and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
He was rumoured to have been attempting to rekindle his romance with Si= mpson over the summer (09), with tabloid reports claiming the pop star’s = relationship with Tony Romo came to an end when the sports star found tex= t messages on her cell phone from her former lover.

GRAMMYS TO STAGE 3-D TRIBUTE TO JACKSON

THE KING OF POP MICHAEL JACKSON is set for another posthumous honour - Gr= ammy producers have lined-up a star-studded 3-D tribute to the legend at = this month’s (Jan10) awards ceremony.
The Grammys will broadcast a 3-D clip the singer made for his hit Earth= Song, a call to action about the destruction of nature and animals by ma= n.
The video was to be integral to Jackson’s comeback concerts in London i= n July 2009 before his untimely death on 25 June (09), and was featured p= artially in the late star’s recent movie documentary This Is It.
According to Grammy co-executive producer Ken Ehrlich, Usher, Celine Di= on, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson will perform al= ongside the clip - marking the first time an awards show will feature 3-D= ..
Ehrlich says, "Whenever we would do a show with (Jackson), the first th= ing he would say to me was, ‘How can we do something that we (have) never= done before?’ And now we’re doing something that hasn’t been done before= ..
"There are these incredible images of the beauties of nature, and then = they are seen through the eyes of a little girl, and that girl falls asle= ep and when she wakes up, she is witness to the destruction of nature. It= ’s all about questioning what our values are.
"It was pretty emotional for him. Afterward he said to me that that son= g and that piece and that portion of the concert was as important to him = than anything else in the show. The promise is this is going to be pretty= spectacular." The 52nd annual Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in = Los Angeles on 31 January (10).
Jackson will also be honoured with a lifetime achievement award from th= e Recording Academy during the show.

PARKER CONFIRMS HALSTON RUMOURS

SARAH JESSICA PARKER has confirmed she will be injecting her style sense = into top designer brand Halston - the actress has been named as the label= ’s new president.
The fashion-forward star will also take on the role of Chief Creative O= fficer and will be putting her signature stamp on the brand’s designs.

PEACHES GELDOF has laughed off suggestions her dad BOB GELDOF is a strict= disciplinarian, insisting the Irish rocker is actually "very sweet." The socialite was brought up by the former Boomtown Rats star after her= mum, TV presenter Paula Yates, died in 2000 of an accidental heroin over= dose.
Now the 20 year old has praised her father for raising four daughters o= n his own without becoming too stern.
She says, "He never really did (get stressed) with me. He was fairly le= nient with me. It’s funny, he has this reputation in the press of being a= strict, rule-by-the-iron-rod dad but he was always very sweet to me." But Peaches managed to get her way as a child by reminding her dad of h= is own rebellious youth: "Maybe in my younger days (he would scold me). I= used to say, ‘Remember when you were a punk!’ He is still kind of a punk= in some ways."

MINOGUE PLANS TO RAISE BABY ACROSS CONTINENTS

Pregnant singer DANNII MINOGUE has dismissed rumours she’s set to quit Br= itain to return to her native Australia - insisting she plans to raise he= r baby in both countries.

Clooney and the former Fugees star, a native Haitian, have stepped up t= o co-host the two-hour Hope For Haiti telethon, which will air on MTV, NB= C, CBS, ABC, CNN and other networks on 22 January (10).
Clooney will anchor the telethon from Los Angeles, while Jean will broa= dcast from New York City.
Haiti=E2=80=99s catastrophic 7.0-magnitude earthquake has prompted hund= reds of other film and TV personalities to lend their time and talents to= raise funds for the poverty-stricken Caribbean country.
And now Aguilera, Timberlake and Swift have joined forces with Jean and= Clooney to appear during Friday’s fundraiser.

AGRON SELLS FIRST SCREENPLAY

GLEE star DIANNA AGRON is adding writer to her resume - after selling her= first movie screenplay.
The 23-year-old actress, who got her big break in the Golden Globe-winn= ing musical series, admits she’s on a lucky streak after finding success = with her first screenwriting venture.

HEAD’S WORRIES OVER DAUGHTERS’ ACTING

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER star ANTHONY HEAD tried to stop his daughters fo= llowing him into showbusiness - until he realised they would "never forgi= ve" him if he banned them from acting.
Head’s grown-up children, Emily and Daisy, have both branched into onsc= reen roles, taking up parts in British TV shows.
But when the girls first expressed an interest in acting, Head tried to= discourage them from seeking a life in the spotlight.
He tells British TV show This Morning, "I’m flattered by the fact that = they can see all the stuff that goes on (with acting) and still think it’= s worthwhile. But I kind of went, ‘Well, maybe you shouldn’t,’ and (my wi= fe) Sarah said, ‘Look, don’t stop them because who knows what they’re goi= ng to want to do when they’re 25. If they get to 40 and you stopped them,= they’ll never forgive you.’" And Head admits he’s proud his daughters have both now managed to carve= out careers in the acting industry, especially as the audition process c= an be so gruelling.
He adds, "It has given them a huge range of things that they can use. I= mean, they are incredibly good with people… and (that) self assurance = and confidence that you get from being knocked down and getting back up. = I’ve always told them, ‘Don’t take it personally, it’s not about what you= can do, it’s about your face if it happens to fit.’"

GERVAIS DEFENDS GLOBES GAGS

RICKY GERVAIS has defended his risque routine at Golden Globes ceremony o= n Sunday (17Jan10) - insisting none of the celebrities he poked fun at we= re offended by his jokes.
The British funnyman has received mixed reviews for his efforts hosting= the glitzy awards show, after making a series of gags about stars in the= audience.
At one point Gervais poked fun at Mickey Rourke’s big build, saying, "I= haven’t got a bad word to say about him… mainly because he has arms as= big as my legs." Throughout the show he also joked about Mel Gibson’s love of drinking a= nd Sir Paul McCartney’s divorce from Heather Mills.
Gervais previously revealed that McCartney had sought him out backstage= and told him he "loved" the Mills gag, and the comic insists all his tar= gets took his jokes in similar good humour.
In a post on his personal blog, Gervais writes, "Mickey Rourke thinks I= ‘m cool. I would never argue with him. I should take this opportunity to = say what a good sport everyone was, by the way. I know some of the report= s have said they were upset, but it’s not true. I also continued to tease= them after the show and they were all great about it. I’ve had such a ni= ce reaction from everybody. Just well wishers everywhere saying they enjo= yed the show." Gervais also used his appearance at the Golden Globes to slip in a chee= ky mention about the DVD release of his latest movie, The Invention Of Ly= ing, and admits his ploy worked perfectly. He adds. "The Invention of Lyi= ng DVD sold about 70,000 copies in a couple of hours today. My shameless = plug seems to have worked. Ha ha."

GIBSON IS ‘STRONGER’ FOLLOWING DRINK DRIVING ‘HUMILIATION’

MEL GIBSON has become "stronger" since his drink-drive arrest in 2006, be= cause it forced him to face his biggest fear - "public humiliation." The Braveheart star was arrested for getting behind the wheel while int= oxicated and subsequently sentenced to three years’ probation on a misdem= eanour driving under the influence (DUI) charge.
Gibson also sparked outrage by making anti-Semitic remarks to the arres= ting officer, and was compelled to issue two public apologies about his c= omments.
But the actor is adamant the incident had a positive effect on his life= - as he has been able to learn from his mistakes.
He says, "You ask anybody what their number one fear is and it’s public= humiliation. Multiply that on a global scale and that’s what I’ve been t= hrough. It changes you and makes you one tough motherf**ker. What doesn’t= kill you makes you stronger. It’s really that simple. You can’t do anyth= ing but live in the moment and leave the future in the hands of providenc= e and don’t regret the past too much. Maybe just take a lesson from it." Gibson has since won a court battle to wipe the drink-driving charge fr= om his police record.

MURPHY’S MUM, WIDOWER: ‘ACTRESS WASN’T KILLED BY DRUGS OR EATING DISORD=

ER’ BRITTANY MURPHY’s mother and widower have shot down reports the late actr= ess’ death was caused by drug abuse and an eating disorder.
Murphy was only 32 when she died on 20 December (09) after suffering a = cardiac arrest. The cause of death has been deferred pending toxicology t= est results.
Murphy’s sudden passing sparked reports of drug abuse after pill bottle= s were found by officials at the couple’s Hollywood Hills home.
Monjack reveals Murphy suffered from a heart valve condition called mit= ral valve prolapse, and only took medication to treat that and heavy cram= ps she suffered when she was on her period, adding, "If she’d taken cocai= ne, she would have died the same second." In an interview with the Associated Press, Murphy’s mother Sharon adds = the actress was too scared to take drugs: "She would not take too much c= affeine. She wouldn’t even have a glass of champagne on New Year’s. She w= as just high on life, and people see that as something else I guess." The pair have also denied speculation the petite actress was suffering = from an eating disorder - insisting she was a healthy weight when she die= d.
Monjack tells People magazine, "Go to the Chateau Marmont and speak to = any waiter and ask how many plates of food she would go through in one si= tting. Nonsense. I understand from the coroner she weighted 115 pounds wh= en she died, and she was five foot three inches." Monjack and his mother-in-law are planning a public Los Angeles-area me= morial in February (10).
