JUDGE REFUSES TO THROW OUT JA RULE GUN CHARGE

JA RULE has lost the latest round in a criminal case after a judge refuse= d to dismiss a gun possession charge against him on Wednesday (20Jan10).
The Pain Is Love star’s chauffeured sports car was pulled over by polic= e in New York City in 2007 following a concert with Kanye West and Lil Wa= yne. A semiautomatic gun was allegedly discovered in the rear driver’s si= de door.
At Manhattan’s Supreme Court on Wednesday, the rapper’s lawyer Stacey R= ichman requested the charge be thrown out, arguing the firearm was allege= dly discovered during an unjustified police stop.
Prosecutors maintained that the vehicle was pulled over because it was = speeding and had a suspended registration as well as no insurance.
The judge sided with the prosecution and ordered Ja Rule - real name Je= ffrey Atkins - back to court on 3 March (10).
If convicted, he faces up to four years behind bars. Atkins, 33, has pl= eaded not guilty to the charge.
On the same night in 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested after a police check = found the rapper had a pistol and marijuana on-board his tour bus.
Last year (09), the Lollipop hitmaker accepted a plea deal and was orde= red to start an eight-month prison sentence in February (10). (MJ/WNWCAH&=

BRITAIN’S BROWN ASKS COWELL TO RECORD HAITI SINGLE

SIMON COWELL has put his powers to good use by organising a charity singl= e to help raise funds for the ravaged nation of Haiti - following a reque= st from Britain’s Prime Minister GORDON BROWN.
The American Idol mogul is lining up stars including Lady Gaga, Cheryl = Cole, Beyonce and Robbie Williams to sing on the cover track, and he’s vo= wed to send the proceeds to the victims of last week’s (12Jan10) devastat= ing earthquake.
Cowell is now rushing to get the project in motion, with the backing of= Britain’s leader Brown and the U.K.’s best-selling newspaper, The Sun.
He says, "We made a decision today. We had a request from the prime min= ister and the Sun newspaper - would we put a record together? "We haven’t got an awful lot of time, but we are going to do something = and attempt to raise as much money as possible. I’ve got to try and get i= t all together in about 48 hours.
"(I want) As many people as possible, whoever we’ve got available is go= ing to be on the record."

BYRNE BEATEN AND ABUSED DURING PRIEST TRAINING

Irish actor GABRIEL BYRNE was sexually abused and viciously beaten during= his training to become a Catholic priest.
The In Treatment star joined the Irish Christian Brothers as an 11-year= -old altar boy, and undertook his seminary to become a priest for over fi= ve years.
But the 59 year old reveals his days training to become a member of the= clergy were tarnished by sexual molestations and classroom beatings.
In an interview with Irish broadcaster Gay Byrne, he reveals, "Unfortun= ately, I experienced some sexual abuse. It was a known and admitted fact = of life amongst us that there was this particular man, and you didn’t wan= t to be left in the dressing room with him. There were certain boundaries= , sexual boundaries, that were crossed.
"It didn’t go on over a prolonged period but it happened at a very, ver= y vulnerable moment. I feared being beaten, and I was beaten very regular= ly. It did affect my sense of myself."

GIBSON GETS MAD OVER ANTI-SEMITIC QUESTIONS

MEL GIBSON was left fuming during a recent U.S. TV interview - after a Je= wish reporter quizzed him over his alleged drunken anti-Semitic rant in 2= 006.
The Lethal Weapon actor is back in front of the cameras to promote new = crime thriller, Edge Of Darkness, and was being interviewed by broadcaste= r Sam Rubin for Los Angeles’ KTLA 5.
After starting out pleasantly, the interview turned nasty when Rubin - = a Jew - asked the star about the time he reportedly made a series of unpl= easant remarks to the Jewish cop who arrested him for drink driving over = three years ago.
Rubin asked the actor, "Some people will welcome you back, some people = will say you should never come back." A seemingly offended Gibson sat forward and angrily asked, "Why?", befo= re Rubin answered, "Because of what happened before. The remarks that wer= e attributed to you." Gibson returned, "The remarks that were attributed to me. I didn’t nece= ssarily make those comments," before asking, "I gather you have a dog in = this fight? Do you have a dog in this fight? Or are you impartial?" The interview then continued after Rubin changed the direction of his q= uestions.
Gibson publicly apologised following the incident and the arrest was ex= punged from his record last year (09), after he served three years probat= ion. He also quit drinking.

JUDGE RELAXES RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST SHEEN SO HE CAN VISIT SICK WIFE

CHARLIE SHEEN has been given permission to break the restraining order ag= ainst him and nurse his wife through a bout of pneumonia.
The actor and his wife Brooke Mueller have been estranged since a Chris= tmas Day (25Dec09) fight, which landed him in jail in Aspen, Colorado, bu= t now the judge who ordered Sheen to stay away from the real estate agent= has agreed to relax the order.
The judge agreed to a request to sign an emergency order allowing Sheen= to visit Mueller in hospital in Los Angeles.
The new order allows the actor to communicate with his estranged wife w= hile she is in hospital - unless his wife asks him to leave.
Sheen reportedly showed up at the hospital shortly after hearing his wi= fe had been admitted on Wednesday (20Jan10), but was turned away because = of the existing court order.
Mueller was admitted to intensive care with a fever of 105 degrees.
The estranged couple is scheduled to meet with the Aspen judge on Frida= y (22Jan10) to discuss the status of the restraining order against Sheen.
Their lawyers are reportedly trying to get the court date moved to next= month (Feb10).

RIHANNA SINGS MARLEY’S REDEMPTION SONG FOR HAITI

RIHANNA performed BOB MARLEY’s uplifting REDEMPTION SONG on OPRAH in Amer= ica on Wednesday (20Jan10) and dedicated the tune to the people of Haiti.
The singer agreed to appear on the TV show as part of an hour-long spec= ial dealing with the struggles in Haiti following last week’s (12Jan10) d= evastating earthquake.
Rihanna chose to say very little, but sang a tune she revealed she list= ens to in times of desperation.
She said, "Growing up, anytime there was a difficult situation, I alway= s listened to this song ‘cos it was so liberating.
"Even now I listen to it when my back is up against the wall and I feel= like the people Haiti need to hear something inspiring." Maxwell also performed on Oprah’s Haiti special.

Reality TV star HEIDI MONTAG’s music career has taken an embarrassing hit= - her debut album has sold just over 1,000 copies in the U.S.
The Hills star boasted about recouping the $2 million (=C2=A31.25 milli= on) she spent making her record, Superficial, in a week - but it seems sh= e’ll have quite a wait.
Released on Tuesday (19Jan10), the album sold less than 1,000 copies in= its first day and only slipped past the mark on Wednesday (20Jan10).

Hip-hop star WYCLEF JEAN accepts his Yele Haiti foundation has been "poor= ly run" - but he’s determined to make it a leading charity hub for the de= sperate people of his homeland.
The former Fugees star’s charity has been targeted by critics, who clai= m the Gone Till November hitmaker has personally profited from foundation= cash.
Jean insists that’s not the case, but there is evidence that some of th= e people he has hired to help him run the charity have been abusing their= position.
Speaking about the charity controversy on Wednesday’s (20Jan10) Oprah s= how in America, the proud Haitian said, "When you’re starting (a) busines= s, it’s important to have the right people around you. When you’re starti= ng a foundation it’s even more important… It’s important you have logis= tics on the ground - the helicopters, the trucks; that’s the only way you= ‘re gonna make a difference.
"So the attack on me, it basically came because, once we started our mo= vement, no one was focused on Yele until they noticed that we were raisin= g $1 million a day after the earthquake. What that did is it rose a lot o= f eyebrows.
"Is there a mistake in running the foundation…? Of course… Have I e= ver used Yele money for my personal benefits? No… I put money into my f= oundation.
"But I do think it was poorly run and I think that we have learned from= our mistakes, and, moving forward, I think we’re gonna be stronger than = ever."

DENNIS QUAID’s two-year-old son THOMAS BOONE sparked a security scare at = the family ranch in Montana over Christmas (09) when he called the cops.

WINSTONE DEFENDS GIBSON OVER DRINK DRIVING SHAME

British actor RAY WINSTONE has defended MEL GIBSON over his drink driving= arrest in 2006, insisting it could have happened to anyone.
The Braveheart star was arrested after he was spotted leaving a Malibu,= California bar and subsequently sentenced to three years probation on a = misdemeanour driving under the influence (DUI) charge.
