GIBSON PAYS TV TRIBUTE TO PENDERGRASS

R&B star and actor TYRESE GIBSON paid tribute to the late TEDDY PENDERGRA= SS on late night TV in America on Wednesday (20Jan10) by performing the s= oul classic he and the beloved singer worked on together.
Gibson served up a "surprise" for Pendergrass fan George Lopez when he = interrupted their chat on Lopez Tonight to belt out the soul great’s Come= On Over To My Place - the song he’ll sing in an upcoming biopic.
The Transformers star revealed he had been working with Pendergrass in = Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while preparing for his portrayal of the golde= n-voiced star, and was upset by news of his death last week (13Jan10).
Gibson said, "I started going to Philly (for) a week at a time because = I was doing the research for the life story of Teddy Pendergrass. I never= sung in the movie so it would have been my first time singing in a film.= It’s (the film) still in motion.
"We ended up getting really close and that’s like my step-pops. It was = a big loss." Gibson then stepped up to the mic and performed Come On Over with Lopez= ’s house band.

PRINCIPAL SETTLES LAWSUIT WITH FORMER MAID

DALLAS star VICTORIA PRINCIPAL has settled a lawsuit with a former maid w= ho accused the actress of pointing a gun at her.
Maribel Banegas claimed Principal fired her on 26 December (08) and thr= eatened to shoot her after she allegedly took too long to walk her pet do= g Mei-Ling.
In court documents filed last May (09), Banegas claimed assault, false = imprisonment and emotional distress and called for unspecified damages.
Principal fought back with her own lawsuit filed against the worker, wh= o she claimed was fired after damaging a door at her home, injuring her d= og and demanding money from the actress.
According to TMZ.com, Banegas wrote a letter of apology to her former e= mployer, which was attached to the settlement.
The letter reads: "I can now understand why you felt that I was threate= ning to you, which, in turn, led you to defend yourself." Banegas also apologised for "any unintentional injury to your little do= g, Mei-ling".
Terms of the settlement are confidential.

HOLLYWOOD BURGLARY GANG SUSPECT FACES NEW CHARGE

A suspect linked with high profile raids on the homes of LINDSAY LOHAN RA= CHEL BILSON and ORLANDO BLOOM has been charged with receiving stolen prop= erty - after wearing a necklace allegedly belonging to the MEAN GIRLS sta= r in court.
Nineteen-year-olds Nicholas Prugo, Diana Tamayo and Courtney Leigh Ames= , and 27-year-old Roy Lopez Jr were all charged with felony burglary and = entered not guilty pleas last month (Dec09).
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has now charged Ames = with receiving stolen property, reports TMZ.com.
According to prosecutors, Ames wore a necklace allegedly belonging to L= indsay Lohan to court in November (09). A detective confiscated the jewel= lery in the courtroom.
Ames was also charged with a second count of receiving stolen property = over a leather jacket belonging to Paris Hilton, which she did not wear t= o court.
Ames’ alleged crime partner Prugo also faces seven counts of first-degr= ee burglary for break-ins at celebrity homes including those of Lohan, Bl= oom, Bilson and Hilton.
A Los Angeles judge also ruled last month (Dec09) that 18-year-old gang= suspect Alexis Neiers will stand trial for looting Bloom’s property, aft= er Prugo identified her on a security video entering the star’s Hollywood= Hills home.

RICHIE & JONES TO RE-RECORD WE ARE THE WORLD

Legendary music producer QUINCY JONES is re-teaming with LIONEL RICHIE to= record an updated version of their star-studded 1985 hit WE ARE THE WORL= D, to benefit Haitian earthquake victims.
The original song, written by Jones and Michael Jackson, featured Richi= e, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Joel and other artis= ts. Proceeds from the single benefited African famine relief.
Co-producers Jones and Richie have reportedly invited Usher, John Legen= d and Natalie Cole and numerous other performers to record the updated an= niversary edition, following last week’s (12Jan10) devastating 7.0 magnit= ude earthquake.

MCGRATH IS HAWKE’S DOPPELGANGER

Rocker MARK MCGRATH looks so much like ETHAN HAWKE he’s constantly stoppe= d and asked to sign autographs as the TRAINING DAY star.
It happens so often, the Sugar Ray frontman has taken to imitating his = more famous lookalike.
McGrath says, "I get mistaken for Ethan Hawke all the time. God, I feel= so bad for him, and I apologise if he’s reading this. Last time, I was i= n a grocery store they go, ‘Are you that actor Ethan Hawke?’ And I go, ‘N= o, no I’m not.’ And then they thought I was being rude. So I signed somet= hing for them to give Ethan Hawke props, so they didn’t think he was a d*= *k."

LOTT’S TEARY MEETING WITH CAREY

British music newcomer PIXIE LOTT broke down in tears when she met MARIAH= CAREY for the first time, because she’d spent her childhood idolising th= e pop icon.
The Boys and Girls hitmaker ran into Carey at a industry party in Londo= n, and rushed to say hi to her hero.
Lott says, "When I was little I listened to my mum’s music. I sang all = the big ballads by Mariah Carey. I met Mariah - she had a party in London= and I got to meet her." The occasion was so emotional for Lott, she found herself fighting back= tears.
Lott adds, "I thought I’d be fine as I’ve met so many people but I shoo= k her hand and started welling up.

MINOGUE SLAMS KYLIE ‘HEARTBREAK’ REPORT

Aussie singer DANNII MINOGUE has brushed off a report claiming she strugg= led to break her baby news to her sister KYLIE.
Britain’s Look magazine published an article this week (begs18Jan10) ti= tled ‘Pregnant Dannii - Why telling Kylie Broke Her Heart.’ The feature suggests Minogue found it difficult to tell Kylie she is ex= pecting - because the Spinning Around hitmaker is so desperate for a baby= of her own and has reportedly struggled to conceive since her battle wit= h breast cancer.
The publication quotes a source as saying, "Dannii knows how much her b= ig sister had wanted to have children. Kylie was always a lot more broody= than Dannii ever was." But Minogue has dismissed the article - posting a link to the magazine’= s front cover on her Facebook.com, Twitter.com and official blog pages, a= nd branding the piece "incorrect".

DANIELS ‘DOING FINE’ AFTER STROKE

Legendary country music star CHARLIE DANIELS has assured fans he can stil= l play his fiddle and guitar after suffering a mild stroke on Friday (15J= an10).
The Devil Went Down To Georgia musician was snowmobiling near his home = in Colorado when he fell ill, and was rushed to a hospital nearby.
He had to be airlifted to the Swedish Medical Center in Denver to have = further treatment and was allowed home on Sunday (17Jan10).
The music star is undergoing physical therapy to regain full feeling in= his left hand - but at 73, he insists his music career isn’t over.
He tells the Associated Press, "I can still play my fiddle. I can play = my guitar. One of the first things I did when I came home from the hospit= al in Denver was to pick up my guitar and make sure my fingers still work= ed on it… I want to keep entertaining people." Daniels blames his stroke on high blood pressure.
He explains, "It (my blood pressure) had gotten higher than what I real= ised it was. We have taken steps to remedy that, and we are back in the g= ame." But the musician insists health concerns won’t slow him down: "It makes= me realize that things can happen to you, but I choose not to sit around= and worry about the possibility that I could have another stroke. It’s n= ot imminent by any stretch of the imagination… I want to go fishing in = Alaska again. I want to go back to Israel, which I intend to do in March.= I love riding snowmobiles. I love fishing. I love shooting guns. I do a = lot of target shooting when I’m at home. I love horses. I love cowboys. W= hat the heck, I may take up skydiving next, who knows."

FULLER CONFIRMS SPICE GIRLS MUSICAL

AMERICAN IDOL creator and SPICE GIRLS founder SIMON FULLER has confirmed = he’s developing a West End stage musical based on the all-conquering girl= group.
The former girl band, comprising of Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri= Halliwell, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm, denied rumours last year = (09) that they were planning a theatrical production based on their caree= r and songs.
Chisholm said at the time, "No, no, no (we’re not doing it). I think it= sounds like a great idea but at the moment we’ve got nothing in the pipe= line." But now Fuller, who’s also the man behind American Idol, has announced = he will be creating the show alongside Mamma Mia! film producer Judy Cray= mer.
Fuller says the girls are "very excited" about the project, adding, "Wh= at Judy has achieved with her all-conquering box office smash hit Mamma M= ia! and what the Spice Girls created with their powerful record-breaking = mix of girl power and hit songs, has influenced pop culture more than any= one can imagine." Craymer says she plans to "create a unique celebration of the band and = its music, with its own flavour and joyful message… It is important to = me that the excitement, style and humour of the Spice Girls is well repre= sented on stage." The show has a working title, Viva Forever - taken from the band’s 1998= hit single.

ESTES TO LEAVE 90210

Actor ROB ESTES is following in his 90210 co-star JENNIE GARTH’s footstep= s by announcing he’s quitting the show.
The actor, who plays Lori Loughlin’s onscreen husband in the Beverly Hi= lls, 90210 spin-off, has confirmed he will not return to the next season = of the programme.
Estes says in a statement, "This is my final season on 90210 and I wish= the show, cast and crew nothing but the best. I am looking forward to sp= ending time with my kids and exploring other opportunities." A representative for TV network CW insists Estes’ departure will be exp= lained in an upcoming storyline: "He’s a talented actor and we couldn’t h= ave asked for (anyone) better. But if fans tune in, they’ll understand wh= y Rob’s character is leaving." The announcement comes just days after his co-star Garth decided to qui= t 90210 to spend time with her three daughters.

Sci-fi movie PUSH is heading to the small screen with a spin-off TV serie= s.
The 2009 film, starring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning and Camilla Belle, = tells the story of a group of people with super-powers who attempt to tak= e down a corrupt government agency.
And now movie bosses are set to continue the story in a new show, which= will be penned by Watchmen screenwriter David Hayter.

BILSON DESIGNS JEWELLERY FOR CHARITY

Actress-turned-designer RACHEL BILSON is expanding her fashion portfolio = - she’s designing jewellery for charity.
The former The O.C. star launched her own clothing line, Edie Rose, wit= h DKNY Jeans in 2008.
According to U.S. magazine InStyle, the 28 year old has created a brace= let to benefit the Diamond Empowerment Fund, a non-profit that supports e= ducation in Africa.
The accessories retail for $100 (GBP62.5), with $20 (GBP12.5) from each= sale going to the Diamond Empowerment Fund to build student housing at t= he CIDA Cit Campus, a university in Johannesburg.

BELL INJURED WHEN IN ROME

American actress KRISTEN BELL suffered a medical scare while filming upco= ming comedy WHEN IN ROME - after she burned her leg in a freak scooter ac= cident.
Bell, who stars opposite Josh Duhamel in the movie, scalded her leg whi= le filming on location in Italy.
She tells JustJared.com, "I burnt my leg on a scooter in Rome. I had an= apple-size, third-degree burn on my leg from the exhaust pipe." And the actress admits she found it difficult to recuperate in the fore= ign country, because she couldn’t understand what doctors were telling he= r.
She explains, "I saw two different doctors, but I couldn’t understand w= hat they were saying. No one spoke English!"

TARANTINO’S ‘BABY FEVER’

Director QUENTIN TARANTINO hasn’t ruled out having kids at age 46 - becau= se he’s convinced he would be a "great dad".

WILLIS ‘DISTURBED’ BY SOCIAL NETWORKING

BRUCE WILLIS will never follow in his ex-wife DEMI MOORE’s footsteps by s= igning up to a social networking website - because the Hollywood actor fi= nds the online technology "disturbing." Moore and her current partner Ashton Kutcher are big fans of micro-blog= ging site Twitter.com, regularly updating thousands of followers about th= eir daily activities.
But Willis hasn’t bought into the trend and admits he is still slightly= sceptical of the world’s reliance on internet communication.
He tells German website TrailerSeite.de, "What really disturbs me is th= e danger that lies in the fact that people want to communicate informatio= n quicker and quicker. I am not a big fan of social networks in electroni= c form. If the electricity dies, we would have to go home right now." And the Die Hard star cites the death of pop icon Michael Jackson in Ju= ne last year (09) as proof of the frightening power of the web.
He adds, "The whole world knew in four seconds or at least a short time= .. Ten, 20 years ago that would have been Utopic. Information gets more co= mpact and quicker."

MONJACK: ‘MURPHY LOST HAPPY FEET ROLE OVER TABLOID RUMOURS’

BRITTANY MURPHY’s grieving widower has accused movie bosses of firing the= actress from the HAPPY FEET sequel because of tabloid rumours about her = lifestyle.
The Clueless star, whose shock death shook Hollywood on 20 December (09= ), starred in the original movie as the voice of penguin Gloria.
She was scheduled to fly to Australia in early 2010 to record her vocal= for the second movie. But according to her widower Simon Monjack, Murphy= was cut from the project when rumours swirled she had been axed from upc= oming film The Caller for being difficult.
He explains, "There was a great deal of stress in her career. A week be= fore she died… unfortunately Warner Brothers pulled the offer (for Happ= y Feet) based off rumours, which were untrue." Monjack adds The Caller bosses released a press release on Wednesday (2= 0Jan10) "thanking me for support and explaining that Brittany in no way w= as fired from that movie and that it was a mutual decision." He’s now urging A-listers to withdraw from the sequel in protest.
He adds, "So any actress that takes the role is terrible. And I would s= ay to Brad Pitt and Matthew Damon, who are considering doing the movie, t= o rethink your friendship with Brittany before you do it." Murphy’s autopsy was completed on 21 December (09). The cause of death = has been deferred until the results of a toxicology report are completed.=

KE$HA’S FRIENDSHIP WITH HILTON WAS DOOMED

KE$HA is convinced her short-lived friendship with PARIS HILTON was alway= s destined to fail - because the two women are so "different." The TiK ToK hitmaker first met Hilton when she appeared on an episode o= f the star’s reality TV show The Simple Life in 2005, and she went on to = sing backing vocals for a track on the heiress’ 2006 debut album, Paris.
Ke$ha briefly befriended Hilton, but that ended when the singer mistook= the socialite’s wardrobe for a bathroom and threw up in the closet.
And Ke$ha is adamant the pair could never have become close pals.
She says, "We are not friends. We=E2=80=99ve just been connected on one= too many places and levels. I don=E2=80=99t have anything against her. I= think she=E2=80=99s really nice, but we=E2=80=99re just very different. = I’m just not that kind of party girl.
