Singer RUFUS WAINWRIGHT has paid tribute to his late mother KATE MCGARRIG= LE and vowed to celebrate all that she achieved before her death from can= cer this week.
The folk singer was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease back in 2= 006, and lost her brave struggle at her home in Montreal, Canada on Monda= y (18Jan10), at the age of 64.
Wainwright, who was with his mother when she died, has spoken of his pr= ide at the way McGarrigle refused to let cancer stop her from living - re= vealing how she lead a full and fulfilling life right up to her death.
In a post on his website, the singer writes, "When inevitably I read to= day in the papers that my mother lost her battle with cancer last night, = I am filled with an immense desire to add that this battle, though lost, = was tremendously fruitful during these last three and a half years of her= life. She witnessed her daughter’s marriage, the creation of my first op= era, the birth of her first grandchild Arcangelo, and gave the greatest p= erformance of her life to a packed crowd at the Royal Albert Hall in Lond= on. Not to mention travelling to some of the world’s most incredible plac= es with both my sister, her husband Brad, my boyfriend Jorn and myself.
"Yes, it was all too brief, but as I was saying to (McGarrigle’s) siste= r Anna last night while sitting by her body after the struggle had ceased= , there is never enough time and she, my amazing mother with whom everyon= e fell in love, went out there and bloody did it".

American fashion designer MARC JACOBS has been honoured in France for his= contribution to the fashion industry.

KIM KARDASHIAN has filed for a temporary restraining order against a man = she’s accusing of stalking and harassing her since September (09).
Kardashian is seeking legal protection from Dennis Shaun Bowman, amid c= oncerns he believes he is romantically involved with the star.
According to court documents, Bowman began Tweeting Kardashian last Sep= tember (09) and proceeded to move from Georgia to a neighbourhood near he= r Calabasas, California home.
Kardashian claims Bowman began showing up at her appearances in the Los= Angeles area acting bizarrely.
The documents, filed in Los Angeles Superior court on 19 January (10), = read: "Mr. Bowman is apparently under the delusion that I was and am inte= rested in some sort of romantic relationship with him. JAMES CAMERON’s 3D movie blockbuster AVATAR has come under the spotlight = again - it has been blamed for the death of a cinema-goer in Taiwan.
The unnamed 42 year old fell ill during a screening of the spectacular = epic in the city of Hsinchu, and died eleven days later in hospital.

Former GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist GILBY CLARKE has been discharged from hosp= ital nearly two weeks after he was seriously injured in hit-and-run accid= ent on his motorcycle.
The musician was out riding his through Sherman Oaks, California on 10 = January (10) when a car turned in front of him, sending him smashing into= the side of the vehicle. The other driver allegedly failed to stop after= the accident.

The son of STAR TREK creator GENE RODDENBERRY has teamed up with movie di= rector RON HOWARD to bring one of his late father’s forgotten TV projects= back to the small screen.
Rod Roddenberry has struck a deal with Howard’s Imagine TV company to d= evelop The Questor Tapes into a new show.
The script, about a robot with incomplete memory tapes who is searching= for his creator, was originally written by Roddenberry as a 13-episode T= V series, but after disagreements with bosses at America’s NBC network th= e sci-fi mogul abandoned the project.
The production eventually aired as a one-off small screen movie in 1974= - and now Roddenberry’s son is hoping to bring The Questor Tapes back to= life to honour his dad’s memory.
