BRANDO’S EX SUES OVER SON’S DEATH

MARLON BRANDO’s ex-wife ANNA KASHFI is taking legal action against a Los = Angeles hospital over the death of their son CHRISTIAN BRANDO.
Kashfi, who was married to the late Hollywood star for two years until = 1959, has filed suit against bosses at the CHA Health System, the company= which runs the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where Christian di= ed in 2008 following a battle with pneumonia.
The suit alleges the doctor who treated the 49 year old was "reckless i= n providing medical care and monitoring Christian," according to papers o= btained by TMZ.com.
Brando’s former wife is also suing two of the star’s other children, Te= ihotu and Rebecca, who he had with previous partners, for allegedly inter= fering with Kashfi’s right to dispose of Christian’s remains.
Kashfi filed the papers on Friday (22Jan10). She is suing for unspecifi= ed damages.

GUYS AND DOLLS’ SIMMONS DIES

GUYS AND DOLLS actress JEAN SIMMONS has died at the age of 80.
The British star, who had been suffering from lung cancer for some time= , passed away at her home in Santa Monica, California on Friday (22Jan10)= , a week before her 81st birthday, according to her agent.
Simmons rose to fame playing Estella in 1946 movie Great Expectations, = she then went on to secure a string of leading Hollywood parts, including= a role in Laurence Olivier’s 1948 film Hamlet, for which she gained an O= scar nomination for her portrayal of Ophelia. She received a second Oscar= nod for 1969’s Happy Ending.
Simmons is also known for appearing opposite Marlon Brando in 1955’s Gu= ys and Dolls, and Kirk Douglas in 1960’s Spartacus.
The legendary actress married twice - once to British actor Stewart Gra= nger, who she met while filming Cleopatra, before divorcing after ten yea= rs in 1960. The pair had one daughter, Tracy, together.

STARS UNITE FOR HAITI TELETHON

GEORGE CLOONEY gathered a galaxy of stars in three cities including MADON= NA, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, JAY-Z, RIHANNA and BONO on Friday night (22Jan10) = to raise money for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
While Hollywood’s elite, including Jack Nicholson, Daniel Day-Lewis, Be= n Affleck and Mel Gibson manned a bank of telephones in Los Angeles, tens= of millions of TV viewers were treated to a string of performances from = chart-topping stars in LA, New York and London.
Alicia Keys kicked off proceedings with a performance of her hit Prelud= e to a Kiss, before Chris Martin teamed up with Beyonce to perform her song Halo.
Bruce Springsteen followed Keys with a rendition of folk song We Shall = Overcome; Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock and Keith Urban sang Lean on Me; Madonna = performed Like A Prayer; Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris covered Leonar= d Cohen classic Hallelujah and Jennifer Hudson belted out Let it Be.
Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono and the Edge united in London to perform Stranded = (Haiti Mon Amour) - a track Bono and Jay-Z wrote over the phone especiall= y for the telethon.
Neil Young and Dave Matthews rounded out the night with a sombre duet o= f Hank Williams song Alone and Forsaken.
Other performers on the night included Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blig= e, Coldplay and Taylor Swift.
Between performances, stars including Denzel Washington, Robert Pattins= on, Nicole Kidman and Matt Damon shared the stories of just some of the e= arthquake’s victims.
Speaking to MTV after the event, Clooney said, "I hope we made some mon= ey out of this. The only way to make this a success is to make a consider= able amount of money." The telethon was beamed live into 640 million homes around the globe, a= nd all performances are available for purchase on iTunes, with proceeds g= oing to benefit earthquake victims.

MILLER WANTS KIDS

JUDE LAW and SIENNA MILLER’s renewed romance is getting serious - the act= ress is hinting she’s ready to start a family with her former fiance.
The couple split in 2006, after a British newspaper exposed Law’s affai= r with his children’s nanny.
Law and Miller reunited late last year while both starring on the New Y= ork stage, and enjoyed a festive vacation in Barbados together.
Neither have confirmed a reconciliation, but Miller admits she’s thinki= ng about starting a family.
In a new interview with Now magazine, the 28 year old reveals she’s get= ting broody:"(I’ll) probably be a mum, I’d love to have kids." And she insists she has all the domestic qualities to be a good mum: "I= love cooking. CLOONEY ASKS AMERICA TO HELP HAITI

GEORGE CLOONEY kicked off the starstudded HOPE FOR HAITI telethon on U.S.= TV on Friday night (22Jan10) - urging America to dig deep and help the v= ictims of the Haitian earthquake.
Alicia Keys opened proceedings with a performance of her hit Prelude to= a Kiss, before Clooney addressed a TV audience of millions with an impas= sioned plea for help.
Referring to the earthquake that killed tens of thousands and devastate= d the Caribbean nation earlier this month (Jan10), he said, "This is a tr= agedy that reaches across all borders and all boundaries and demands our = attention, our help and our compassion as fellow human beings.
"The Haitian people need our help. They need to know they’re not alone,= they need to know that we still care." KINGS OF LEON SWITCHES LABELS

Rock band KINGS OF LEON is placing its music career in new hands, after q= uitting record label Columbia and signing a new deal with rivals Warner B= rothers.
As a condition of the new contract, the band will contribute half of it= s recording costs, in return for a greater control of spending, and a big= ger share of the profits.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Kings of Leon are one of the= few bands on the planet who have enough heft to negotiate such a favoura= ble deal.

PRINCE has written a special song to inspire his favourite American footb= all team to Super Bowl success.

JUDGE ORDERS POLANSKI TO RETURN TO U.S. FOR SENTENCING=20

Film maker ROMAN POLANSKI has lost his fight to avoid extradition to the = U.S. - a Los Angeles judge has ruled he must return to be sentenced on 32= year old unlawful sex charges.
Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with 13-year-old Samantha Geimer = back in 1977, but fled America a year later, before he could be sentenced= ..
He was arrested in Zurich last year (09) and is has been under house ar= rest in Switzerland since, while his lawyers fight to free him and preven= t him from being extradited, arguing the Oscar winner should be sentenced= in his absence.
On Friday (22Jan10) a judge decided Polanski must return for sentencing= ..

JACKSON ESTATE OPPOSES PATRIARCH’S ALLOWANCE

MICHAEL JACKSON’s estate is blocking a bid by the late entertainer’s fath= er JOE JACKSON for a monthly allowance of over $15,000 (GBP9,375).
The patriarch filed for a monthly stipend in November (10), claiming he= relied on his son’s help to survive and had little income of his own.
According to TMZ.com, Jackson asked for the money to cover "maintenance= expenses" and to "support his children or grandchildren".
Attorneys for the estate’s administrators John Branca and John McClain = have filed papers opposing the patriarch’s efforts.
According to court filings, the Thriller hitmaker omitted his father as= a beneficiary in his will and trust. The estate claims Joe has failed to= show the pop legend supported him while he was alive.
