The BLACK EYED PEAS were left stunned at an awards ceremony in France on = Saturday night (23Jan10) - after their prize for Best International Group= was withdrawn following an error.
The group opened the night at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, France with a p= erformance of I Gotta Feeling, and later picked up the Best International= Song trophy for the hit track.
And they were delighted when pop star Ke$ha took to the stage with Fren= ch choreographer Kamel Ouali to announce they had also been crowned Best = International Group.
But the band’s celebrations came to an abrupt end when Ouali returned t= o the microphone to admit there had been an error - and he had read out t= he wrong name by mistake, handing the award instead to German rockers Tok= io Hotel.
The news, which drew boos from the star-studded crowd, follows a simila= r mistake last year (09) when Katy Perry accepted the trophy for Best Int= ernational Song, which should have gone to Rihanna.
The Umbrella hitmaker was also one of the big winner’s at this year’s s= how, picking up the award for Best International Female, but her evening = was marred by an on-stage slip during her performance of Russian Roulette= .. The singer fell off a platform at the end of the song, but quickly pick= ed herself up and walked away, apparently unhurt by the fall.
Other winners at the ceremony included British pop star Robbie Williams= who was named Best International Male, and also accepted an honorary awa= rd for his contribution to music. Beyonce received a similar prize for he= r outstanding achievements.
The homegrown winners included the cast of musical Mozart l’Opera Rock,= who won best French group, song and breakthrough for Florent Mothe, and = dance artist Christophe Willem, who won best French male and best album.
The night also saw performances from Williams, Jay-Z, Mika, Michael Bub= le, David Guetta and Kelly Rowland.
