U.S. TV show UGLY BETTY has been cancelled.
The cult comedy, which has become a global hit, debuted in 2006 and tur= ned Emmy Award-winner America Ferrera into a household name.
But there won’t be a fifth season of the show - the programme’s current= fourth season will be its last. Ugly Betty will wrap up in April (10).
In a joint statement, executive producer Silvia Horta and ABC TV execut= ive Steve McPherson announced, "We=E2=80=99ve mutually come to the diffic= ult decision to make this Ugly Betty=E2=80=99s final season, and are anno= uncing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying = conclusion.
"We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was = important to give the fans a proper farewell.=E2=80=9D Veteran entertainer Liza Minnelli is set to appear in the final series = in a cameo as an "outrageous drama teacher". Other big names, like Rebecc= a Romijn, Lindsay Lohan, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and show producer Salma Hayek = have appeared on the programme, while regulars include Vanessa Williams, = Ana Ortiz and Eric Mabius.

POLTERGEIST star ZELDA RUBINSTEIN has died, aged 76.
The actress, who played spirit talker Tangina in Steven Spielberg’s cul= t 1982 film, was hospitalised in Los Angeles in December (09) after two o= f her major organs failed.
Internet reports suggested the petite star was close to death after she= was reportedly taken off her life support machine, but friends and famil= y insisted Rubinstein was on the mend earlier this month (Jan10).
Her agent, Eric Stevens, has now confirmed she passed away of natural c= auses at Barlow Respiratory Hospital in Los Angeles on Wednesday (27Jan10= ).
He tells RadarOnline.com, "She had ongoing health issues and unfortunat= ely they finally overtook her." A friends adds, "She was very much at peace when she finally rested… = The world has definitely lost someone very special." Poltergeist was Rubinstein’s big break in Hollywood. She went on to app= ear in films like Poltergeist II: The Other Side, Sixteen Candles, Teen W= itch and National Lampoon’s Last Resort, as well as U.S. TV shows Carolin= e in the City, Picket Fences and Mr. Belvedere.
From 2000 to 2006 she narrated spooky TV show The Scariest Places on Ea= rth.

JOHN TRAVOLTA will be forced to relive the painful memories of his son’s = death for a second time in September (10), when the actor’s extortion cas= e returns to court for a retrial.
Former Bahamas senator Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightb= ourne have been charged with conspiracy to extort $25 million (=C2=A317.2= million) from the actor and his wife Kelly Preston after their 16-year-o= ld son Jett suffered a fatal seizure at the family’s holiday home there i= n January 2009.
The allegations centre around a Refusal of Treatment/Transportation for= m, signed by Travolta, which the suspects allegedly threatened to release= to the media.
In October (09), Senior Justice Anita Allen declared a mistrial after a= jury member reportedly leaked the verdict to politicians. Jurors were st= ill deliberating when lawmaker Picewell Forbes allegedly announced to an = audience at a Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) convention that Bridgewater= was "a free woman".
The retrial has been set for 6 September (10) and is expected to last f= our weeks.
The star’s attorney, Michael Ossi, has insisted Travolta, who testified= during the initial hearings, will fully cooperate with future proceeding= s and will testify again if necessary.
Ossi told reporters in October (09): "We are committed to seeing this t= hrough, and we are committed to seeing justice served. And whatever the p= rosecution asks us to do is exactly what we will do."

MICHAEL DOUGLAS’ actor son CAMERON has pleaded guilty to trafficking larg= e quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine.
Cameron Douglas was arrested in August (09) after a drugs raid on his r= oom at New York’s Hotel Gansevoort.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines w= ith intent to distribute and originally put under house arrest.
But the 31 year old was thrown in jail after his girlfriend allegedly t= ried to smuggle heroin to him in an electric toothbrush.
The It Runs in the Family star entered the plea on Wednesday (28Jan10) = in Manhattan Federal Court.
If convicted, he faces a minimum 10-year prison sentence.

An attorney for CHARLIE SHEEN’s sick wife BROOKE MUELLER has clarified re= ports she has checked into a drug rehabilitation centre in North Carolina= , insisting the recovery retreat is also designed for people with serious= illnesses.
Mueller was admitted to hospital last week (20Jan10) suffering from pne= umonia in both lungs, linked to a recent operation to remove her wisdom t= eeth.
She was transferred to an intensive care unit, where she was being trea= ted with antibiotics. She was discharged from a Los Angeles hospital on M= onday (25Jan10) and new reports suggest the 32 year old has checked into = rehab to deal with her personal demons.
But Mueller’s attorney Yale Galanter insists her client has checked int= o Two Dreams, a treatment center specialising in drug and alcohol addicti= on, to recover from her illness and not to seek help for substance abuse.
A protective court order preventing Mueller and Sheen from contacting o= ne another is still in effect, following an alleged domestic incident on = Christmas Day (25Dec09), which landed the actor in jail in Aspen, Colorad= o.
The couple reunited briefly when Sheen was given the all-clear to visit= his wife in hospital after a judge relaxed the protection order.
According to Galanter, Mueller is expected to remain at the facility fo= r about a week.
Meanwhile, Sheen is taking care of the couple’s two kids at the family = home in Los Angeles.
Mueller has been arrested twice previously, for an outstanding warrant = for cocaine possession and for driving under the influence.
A hearing to review the pair’s protection order was postponed until 8 F= ebruary (10) after Mueller fell ill.

Swedish star DAVID JASSY begged a Los Angeles court for his freedom on Tu= esday (26Jan10) during a two-hour testimony in a road rage trial.
The former child star-turned-rapper stands accused of murdering 55-year= -old pianist John Osnes. Jassy attacked the musician during a confrontati= on on a Los Angeles crosswalk in November 2008.
Witnesses saw Jassy, 35, punching, kicking and running over Osnes after= the pedestrian banged on the bonnet of his rented vehicle.
But the rapper insists he was only interested in protecting the SUV and= his girlfriend, Therese Fischer, who was a passenger.
In court, Jassy repeatedly told the jury he never intended to harm the = victim, explaining, "I was in fear for my life. I didn’t know if he had a= gun, a knife. I know L.A. is way more dangerous than Sweden is." The Swedish star revealed Osnes started the fight by banging his fists = on his car and then throwing a punch at Jassy as he stepped out of his ve= hicle to inspect the damage and talk to the angry pedestrian.
He told the court, "One minute I’m sitting in my car driving, and anoth= er, I’m in the middle of the street fighting with this man. Crazy… I wa= nted to go home." But eyewitnesses who have already testified suggest Jassy was the aggre= ssor, who punched and kicked Osnes before driving over the unconscious ma= n’s body.
Jassy burst into tears when he recalled the moment a police officer inf= ormed him that Osnes had died from his injuries.
The trial continues.

HEROES star ADRIAN PASDAR has been arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion o= f driving under the influence (DUI).
The 44-year-old actor, who is married to Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Ma= ines, was pulled over by police on Wednesday (27Jan10) at 2.59am local ti= me.
According to TMZ.com, Pasdar was clocked driving over 90 miles-an-hour = (144.8 kilometres-an-hour) on the 405 Freeway.
Police reportedly detected the odour of alcohol upon approaching his ve= hicle, and administered a field sobriety test.
The actor reportedly refused a breathalyzer test and was eventually pla= ced under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
