MASCIS FORMS NEW BAND WITH DESPERATE PAL
DINOSAUR JR. frontman J. MASCIS has formed a new supergroup with members = of WITCH and COBRA VERDE.
Sweet Apple was inspired by former Cobra Verde star John Petkovic’s des= perate cross-country U.S. drive following the death of his mother.
The guitarist explains, "My mother had just died after a long, horrible= illness and I=E2=80=99d been totally devastated by so many things, all a= t once. I=E2=80=99d lost so much weight. I couldn=E2=80=99t eat or sleep.= All I did was smoke cigarettes, one and after another after another." Four hundred miles from his native Cleveland, Ohio, he received a phone= call from friend and Witch star Dave Sweetapple, who asked him to stop b= y after discovering he was near his home in Vermont.
Sweetapple recalls, "I couldn=E2=80=99t believe he was driving around a= imlessly." Sweetapple called Mascis in to give the struggling guitarist’s life a n= ew purpose and they started writing new material.
The band’s Love & Desperation debut is scheduled for release in April (= 10).
