LINKIN PARK RELEASING SONGS TO BENEFIT HAITI
Rockers LINKIN PARK have teamed up with stars including PETER GABRIEL, AL= ANIS MORISSETTE and ENRIQUE IGLESIAS to release a digital charity album t= o benefit the Haiti relief effort.
Frontman Mike Shinoda created the project, titled Download to Donate fo= r Haiti, with nine songs that can be downloaded in return for a donation = to help the earthquake-ravaged country, which was hit by a massive tremor= last week (12Jan10).
Other stars to contribute music to the campaign - run in conjunction wi= th Linkin Park’s Music For Relief charity - include former Guns N’ Roses = star Slash, the Dave Matthews Band and The All-American Rejects, while Sh= inoda is hoping more songs by top acts will be added this week (begs18Jan= 10).
He says, "Download to Donate has come together very, very quickly. It w= as an idea as of Thursday - and as of right now, we have nine songs up. W= e ask that you donate, but you don’t have to - if all you can afford is t= o spread the word, embed the widget, share it on Facebook, Twitter, whate= ver, then that will be good enough. We’re hoping to raise a lot of money = for a lot of people who need it in Haiti.
"We started our organisation, Music for Relief, back in 2005 after the = tsunami in South Asia. Music for Relief’s goal is to provide relief, fund= s and awareness in the wake of natural disasters. This is the first time = that the technology has been available to do something like this; just a = few years ago, it wouldn’t be possible for artists to turn around songs s= o quickly, in a matter of days." Slash adds, "We’re encouraging people to give what they can. There=E2=80= =99s no right or wrong amount. The people of Haiti are in desperate need = of food, fresh water, shelter and medical supplies and every little bit h= elps.=E2=80=9D
