AMY WINEHOUSE’s goddaughter DIONNE BROMFIELD was left terrified on Saturd= ay (30Jan10) following an attempted burglary at her London home.
The 14-year-old singer was at home with her mother in Mottingham, south= London when burglars broke into the property.
Police officers arrived on the scene quickly and no one was hurt in the= attempted theft, according to British newspaper the News of the World.

WEST SLAMS PETA OVER FUR COMMENTS

KANYE WEST has launched a furious rant against animal rights campaigners = after he was slammed for stepping out in a fur coat - calling his critics= "scared, incapable or just plain idiots." The rapper and his girlfriend Amber Rose incurred the wrath of bosses a= t People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who labelled him a = "pathetic idiot" for wearing animal pelts during Men’s Fashion Week in Pa= ris, France.
And West has now struck back with a post on his official blog, which ap= pears to respond to PETA’s comments.
The message, posted on Friday (29Jan10) and subsequently removed, reads= , "When it’s all said and done, remember the fearless, remember the dream= ers, remember those who represent the ghetto. The fairy tale of nothing t= o something.
"I’m briefly saddened by negative comments, but I have to remember thos= e people are scared, incapable or just plain idiots. We are the f**king r= ock stars baby. JOE JACKSON IS ‘PROUD’ OF GRANDKIDS’ GRAMMY APPEARANCE

MICHAEL JACKSON’s father JOE has shrugged off rumours he was "displeased"= with plans to bring the superstar’s children on stage at the upcoming Gr= ammy Awards - insisting he is "very proud" of his grandkids.
Paris, 11, and Prince Michael, 12, are slated to make a public appearan= ce at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday night (31Jan10) to acc= ept an award on behalf of the late King of Pop and to make a speech about= their beloved father.
Joe was rumoured have been furious with the decision to thrust the grie= ving kids into the spotlight at such a high profile event.
But he’s spoken out to back the move, insisting he helped initiate the = youngsters’ participation along with his wife Katherine.
He tells People.com, "I am very proud that my son, Michael Jackson, is = a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Grammys. Howev= er, there (have) been some recent rumours that I am displeased with the i= dea that Michael’s children are accepting the award on my son’s behalf. O= n the contrary, I am very proud of my grandchildren. Katherine and I are = the ones that (have) initiated their participation." THERON & TOWNSEND SPLIT?

Hollywood star CHARLIZE THERON has ended her nine-year relationship with = Irish actor STUART TOWNSEND, according to a British report.
The South African beauty has been dating the Shooting Fish star since t= hey met on the set of 2002 movie Trapped.
But U.K. newspaper the Mail on Sunday claims the couple has now parted = ways, with Townsend allegedly moving out of their shared home in the Holl= ywood Hills.
The report follows a stream of rumours about their relationship after T= heron was recently spotted out in public without the beloved antique ring= she wears to show her commitment to Townsend.
A source tells the publication, "They had become more like brother and = sister than lovers. It was she who ended it. Charlize has remained in the= ir main home in the Hollywood Hills while Stuart has moved all his stuff = into their Malibu beach home that they own together. They are sorting out= their financial affairs at the moment, as they have been together for so= long that many of their financial affairs are intertwined.
"She truly loved Stuart but the relationship ran its course. He is hear= tbroken but she is insisting it is all over." JOLIE & PITT PUT ON UNITED FRONT AT DGA AWARDS

ANGELINA JOLIE and BRAD PITT silenced rumours of a split by making a red = carpet appearance together at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards= on Saturday night (30Jan10).
The Hollywood supercouple has been dogged by rumours of an impending br= eak-up in recent weeks, with reports claiming they had already devised a = legal contract to separate their assets. The rumours were fuelled by the = pair’s absence from a string of high profile events including the recent = Golden Globes.
But Jolie and Pitt shrugged off gossip about their relationship to put = on a united front at the DGA Awards in Los Angeles, supporting the actor’= s appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

DOHERTY’S MANAGER PLEADS GUILTY IN CRASH CASE

PETE DOHERTY’s manager has pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous drivin= g following a car crash last September (09) which left a man fighting for= his life.
Andrew Boyd was accused of running down 42-year-old Chris Corder in Suf= folk, England and driving away without stopping.
Corder has been in a coma since the accident and is still being treated= at the Royal London Hospital.
Babyshambles boss Boyd admitted the offence at a hearing at Ipswich Cro= wn Court on Friday (29Jan10). He also pleaded guilty to four other charge= s including failing to stop at an accident scene.
Judge David Goodin told Boyd he is facing a stretch behind bars: "The o= ffences you pleaded guilty to are serious ones. It may very well be that = custody is the only sentence for you." Boyd has been bailed and is due to be sentenced on 24 February (10). (L=

RICHARD LOSES EXTENSION BATTLE

British singer SIR CLIFF RICHARD has been ordered to tear down an extensi= on on his home after local officials ruled the structure illegal.
Planning officials at Runnymede Borough Council deemed the glass conser= vatory "too big" and alleged it was added to the Surrey, England property= in 2006 without proper authorisation.
The pop veteran battled to save the structure and lodged an appeal agai= nst the council’s decision, but his legal challenge has been dismissed an= d authorities have ordered him to demolish the extension.
Richard’s planning consultant, Dave Farrell, admits the star is dismaye= d by the ruling.
He says, "(The demolition order is) a bit silly. We’re disappointed but= it’s just one of those things." Planning committee chairman Geoff Woodger, adds, "The decision confirms= our view that the conservatory breached policy."

STATUS QUO SCRAP GIGS

British rockers STATUS QUO have cancelled three shows after singer/guitar= ist RICK PARFITT fell ill.
The band was due to play two concerts in Ipswich, England this weekend = (29-30Jan10) but the gigs were axed after Parfitt was diagnosed with an u= pper respiratory tract infection.
They have now also scrapped plans to play in Stoke-on-Trent, England on= Sunday night (31Jan10).
In a post on the band’s official website, frontman Francis Rossi writes= , "We’re really sorry to have to let the fans down, but Rick has picked u= p an infection and is in no fit state to take to the stage and the last t= hing we would ever want to do is to give a substandard performance." Scheduling conflicts mean the scrapped dates cannot be rescheduled and = fans have been asked to apply for refunds.
Parfitt underwent heart bypass surgery in 1997 and suffered a cancer sc= are in 2005 when growths were found in his throat. The growths were subse= quently found to be benign.

ORBISON HONOURED WITH HOLLYWOOD STAR

Friends and family of late rock pioneer ROY ORBISON took to the streets o= f Los Angeles on Friday (29Jan10) to unveil the music legend’s star on th= e Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Orbison=E2=80=99s widow Barbara and his three sons attended the ceremon= y which marked the placing of the 2,400th landmark on the famed strip at = the base of the Capitol Records tower.
The rocker’s most famous track, Oh, Pretty Woman, was played as stars i= ncluding Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, comedian Eric Idle, filmmaker David = Lynch and singer Chris Isaak gathered to honour Orbison’s memory.
Actor Dan Aykroyd made a speech at the event, describing Orbison - who = died in 1988 - as his childhood hero.
He told the crowd, "Since (seeing Orbison perform in my youth) I’ve wor= n nothing but black. And I can wear sunglasses anytime I want because Roy= did.=E2=80=9D Barbara Orbison thanked her late husband’s pals for turning out for the= ceremony, adding: =E2=80=9CAll of these guys have just a little bit of R= oy’s heart in their hearts. YOUNG HONOURED AT PRE-GRAMMY CEREMONY

Veteran singer-songwriter NEIL YOUNG was honoured at a pre-Grammy Awards = ceremony on Saturday night (30Jan10) - with stars including SIR ELTON JOH= N, KEITH URBAN and NORAH JONES taking the stage to perform his hits.
The legendary musician was named the Musicares Person Of The Year by th= e U.S. Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammy Awards which= take place in Los Angeles on Sunday night (31Jan10).
The event in L.A. was hosted by actor Jack Black and saw Sir Elton pay = tribute to his "hero" before wowing the crowd with a rendition of Young’s= hit track Helpless. There were also performances from the Red Hot Chili = Peppers, Elvis Costello, Josh Groban and Sheryl Crow.
Young was honoured for his charity work, with organisers praising his "= influential artistic accomplishments and philanthropic work." The night also included a charity auction which sold off prizes includi= ng the chance to sing backup vocals on former Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s ne= xt album, which was snapped up by Sir Elton who paid a reported $12,000 (= =C2=A37,500) for the privilege.
Black also contributed to the sale - offering up the shoes he was weari= ng, which sold for $600 (=C2=A3375).
The evening ended with a performance from Young’s former bandmates Cros= by, Stills and Nash, who took to the stage last with a rendition of Human= Highway. David Crosby - who previously received the same award - address= ed Young on stage, telling the rocker, "We made some of the best music of= our lives with you." Other previous recipients of the honour include Aretha Franklin, Neil D= iamond and Brian Wilson.

HALLIWELL’S BOYFRIEND ARRESTED

GERI HALLIWELL’s boyfriend has been cautioned by police after he was arre= sted on suspicion of drug possession following a night out in London.
The former Spice Girls star has been dating Henry Beckwith, the heir to= a multi-million dollar fortune, since last year (09) and they were recen= tly rumoured to be making wedding plans.
Beckwith, 31, was detained by police in the early hours of Sunday morni= ng (31Jan10) on suspicion of possessing cocaine. The arrest came followin= g a night out at exclusive London members club Raffles.
He was taken to a west London police station and later released with a = police caution.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman says, "We can confirm a 31-year-old man= was found with a quantity of white powder in Paulton Square where he was= arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug."

MORE MONEY PROBLEMS FOR MADSEN

Actor MICHAEL MADSEN is facing more money problems - he’s been hit with a= lawsuit from a California company which alleges he failed to pay for the= upkeep of his swimming pool.
Papers filed at a small claims court accuse the Reservoir Dogs star of = owing $6,809.88 (=C2=A34,256) to a Malibu, California pool company for wo= rk carried out between November 2008 and January 2010, according to TMZ.c= om.
It’s the latest in a long line of financial woes for Madsen, who filed = for bankruptcy last June (09). He is said to owe thousands of dollars in = personal loans to Hollywood pals Pierce Brosnan and Quentin Tarantino, an= d was recently sued by the landlord of his Malibu, California home after = allegedly failing to pay his rent.

BIGELOW TRIUMPHS AT DIRECTORS GUILD AWARDS

KATHRYN BIGELOW was handed the top prize at the Directors Guild of Americ= a (DGA) Awards on Saturday night (30Jan10) - seeing off competition from = her ex-husband JAMES CAMERON to land the coveted Best Director trophy.
The moviemaker, who divorced Cameron in 1991, took home her first DGA h= onour for her gritty war drama The Hurt Locker, after competing against h= er former partner and his epic Avatar.
Lee Daniels (Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire), Jason Reit= man (Up in the Air) and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds) were als= o nominated in the Best Director category.
Bigelow’s win also marks the first time a female director has been awar= ded the prize.
The 58 year old told the crowd, "This is the most incredible moment of = my life. This is amazing. I’m so deeply stunned, honoured and awed." Other winners at the ceremony included Lesli Linka Glatter, who was hon= oured for directing work on TV show Mad Men, and Ross Katz who was named = Best Director of a TV Movie for Taking Chance, which starred Kevin Bacon = as a soldier escorting the body of a comrade back to his home town.

RIP TORN ARRESTED AFTER BIZARRE BANK RAID

Actor RIP TORN was arrested on Friday (29Jan10) night after he allegedly = broke into a Connecticut bank with a loaded gun.
Police allegedly found the Men in Black star lying on the floor of the = Litchfield Bancorp building clutching a loaded revolver.
Torn - real name Elmore Rual Torn - is said to have been drunk at the t= ime of his arrest, and has been charged with a string of offences includi= ng carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicat= ed, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degre= e criminal mischief.
He is currently being held on a $100,000 (=C2=A362,500) bond and is due= in court on Monday (01Feb10).
Litchfield Bancorp boss Mark E. Macomber has spoken to TMZ.com and tell= s the website he doesn’t believe the actor was trying to steal anything f= rom the bank, but thought he was in his own home.
Torn has previously been in trouble with the law over alcohol-related o= ffences, including a driving under the influence (DUI) arrest in December= 2008. He was handed probation and ordered to enrol in an alcohol educati= on program.

DOUGLAS SUPPORTS SON IN CLOSED COURT HEARING=20

MICHAEL DOUGLAS attended a court hearing in New York City on Friday (29Ja= n10) to support his embattled son CAMERON, who pleaded guilty to drug tra= fficking earlier this week (Wed27Jan10).
Cameron Douglas was arrested in August (09) following a police raid on = his room at the Big Apple’s Hotel Gansevoort.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines a= nd cocaine with intent to distribute, and originally put under house arre= st at his mother’s Manhattan address.
However, after the 31 year old allegedly asked his girlfriend to smuggl= e heroin to him in an electric toothbrush he was placed back behind bars = in a correctional facility.
He entered a plea of guilty on Wednesday in Manhattan Federal court, an= d appeared back in a closed courtroom on Friday (29Jan10).
According to the New York Daily News, Oscar-winner Douglas also attende= d the hearing to sign paperwork so his son could be bailed until he is se= ntenced.
The publication states the hearing’s transcripts were sealed, which usu= ally points towards the suspect helping police with their investigation.
He faces a possible 10-year prison sentence.

SNOOP DOGG WANTS TO RETURN TO BRITAIN FOR SOAP OPERA CAMEO

Bad boy rapper SNOOP DOGG is desperate to be allowed back into Britain fo= llowing his travel ban in 2006 - so he can appear in a popular U.K. soap = opera.
The hip-hop superstar is barred from travelling to Britain after he was= arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport in 2006 following a fracas, and he= ’s previously urged stars including David Beckham and Sir Paul McCartney = to help get the ban overturned.
But bizarrely, one of the main reasons Snoop wants back into the countr= y is to catch up with Coronation Street - a soap set in Manchester, Engla= nd - and has even offered to make a special guest appearance on the show’= s famed cobbled streets.
He tells Britain’s The Sun, "When I’m in Britain I love to eat Indian f= ood and chill in my hotel room and watch Coronation Street.
"I’ve done guest roles in shows in the U.S. If Coronation Street want m= e to make a cameo then, cool, let’s do it.
"Maybe I could just play myself doing a concert in Manchester and I cou= ld come into the pub for lunch.
"I’ve been to Manchester lots of times. I think Coronation Street is to= Manchester what the Statue Of Liberty is to New York."

MICHAEL JACKSON’s former Las Vegas retreat has been sold for over $3 mill= ion (=C2=A31.9 million).
The late King of Pop moved into the gated, seven-bedroom Monte Cristo W= ay property in 2007 after declaring that his Neverland Ranch estate in Ca= lifornia was no longer home following a police raid, which sparked his 20= 04 child molestation trial.
According to website RealEstalker.com, the one-acre property was bank-o= wned at the time of the sale.

JACKSON’S KIDS TO MAKE GRAMMY SPEECHES DURING DAD’S TRIBUTE

MICHAEL JACKSON’s kids are planning to pay tribute to their late father w= hen the KING OF POP is posthumously honoured at the Grammy Awards on Sund= ay (31Jan10).
The ceremony’s organisers announced earlier this year (10) that a spect= acular star-studded 3D performance will be laid on to recognise the achie= vements of the Thriller great, who died last June (09).
The 3D clip which will be used is part of the Earth Song performance Ja= ckson planned on showcasing during his doomed residency at London’s 02 Ar= ena, and superstars including Usher, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Jenni= fer Hudson and Smokey Robinson will all perform alongside the footage.
Jackson’s two eldest children, Paris, Prince Michael, are planning on g= racing the stage at the event to "read some sort of speech" about their f= ather, according to E! Online.
Celebrity website TMZ.com adds that Jackson’s dad Joe has confirmed the= kids have been working on their speeches for a week, and both are accomp= lished public speakers.
The 52nd annual Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in = Los Angeles on 31 January (10).
