SMITH BALD DURING POTTER FILM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:27 am

Actress DAME MAGGIE SMITH was hiding a sad secret while filming HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE - chemotherapy to treat breast cancer had left her bald.
The 74 year old plays Professor McGonagall in the wizard franchise, and has always worn a bushy wig under a witch’s hat for her scenes.
But the hair piece in the sixth film was also covering up the effects of intense treatment to destroy cancerous cells last year (08).
Smith says, "I was hairless. I had no problem getting the wig on. I was like a boiled egg." And the veteran star is worried about how she will cope on the set of the final wizard movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which has been split into two parts: "I’ve still got to stagger through the last Potter." The experience of losing her hair was difficult for Smith, who admits it was "very weird" to wear hats and hair pieces to cover her baldness.

SIMPSON TRAVELS THE WORLD FOR NEW BEAUTY SERIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:03 am

JESSICA SIMPSON was transformed into a Geisha in Japan and helped an Ugandan woman pile on the pounds as part of new TV series THE PRICE OF BEAUTY.
The singer is travelling the world filming the show, which examines beauty regimes in a variety of cultures, and she admits she is continually surprised by what she learns about the habits women practice across the globe.
Her manager/father Joe tells UsWeekly.com, "(She) becomes a Geisha in Japan. In Uganda, we sat in a fattening hut because, in Uganda, fat is beautiful. So the bigger you are, the more beautiful you are. She was with a girl who had been in a hut preparing for her wedding for two months and 25 days on a 5,000 calorie-a-day diet." And the star, who will visit Morocco next, has been comforted on her travels by women sympathising with the media criticism she endured over her rounder figure earlier this year (09).
Joe adds, "She’s always scrutinised by the world and (it’s great) to watch her go to other countries and see women talk about what is beautiful there.
"We were just in Uganda, and a beauty ambassador (there) knew Jessica’s total story, about her weight and blah, blah, blah. (She told) Jessica that it’s about who you are inside, which is the message of our show."

BARAT: ‘I’M TOO BUSY FOR LIBERTINES REUNION’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:03 am

British rocker CARL BARAT has no immediate plans to reform THE LIBERTINES - his hectic schedule means he won’t be able to team up with PETE DOHERTY until at least 2011.
Doherty was booted from the band in 2004 following a series of argument with Barat over the troubled star’s drug use. Doherty was also jailed for breaking into his former bandmate’s London home.
Barat went on to form rock group Dirty Pretty Things while Doherty formed Babyshambles, but the pair has since put aside their differences and have hinted at a reunion several times in the last year.
And while Barat remains optimistic about a Libertines reunion, he’s warned fans they’ll have to wait until his calendar is cleared up.
He explains, "I’m too busy next year. Maybe the year after that. See how it goes. When it needs to happen, it will fall into place. It’s more a way of life than a band for me. I’m not going to jump up there and play the songs for some money - if it feels right then it will fall into place." Earlier this week (end04Oct09), Doherty told reporters he fears Barat is sceptical he has kicked his drug demons: "He doesn’t want to go down the same path and pick up the pieces again. He still thinks I’m surrounded by this dark energy so (a reunion won’t happen) until I can prove I’m worth the risk."

SHARKS LOVE PANETTIERE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

Don’t go swimming with HAYDEN PANETTIERE if you’re terrified of sharks - the HEROES star is a magnet for the predators.
The actress spends a lot of time in the water, surfing and protesting the killing of dolphins and whales - and she reveals she often finds herself swimming with sharks.
She says, "I tend to attract them everywhere I go… I’d really rather not see a shark while I’m paddling on a board… but, if you want to see a shark, put me in the water." And there’s one encounter she’d like to forget - she attracted one shark by peeing in the ocean off Hawaii.
Panettiere was diving with her mother and brother when was caught short and decided to relieve herself while treading water - but the relief was replaced by terror.
Appearing on late-night U.S. TV chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actress recalls, "This safety diver got in to take pictures of my brother and my mum and they had their fins on and when the shark comes too close, you put your fins in their face, and I didn’t have my fins on and all of a sudden… they start going, ‘Shark, right behind you!’ "I was going, ‘What could it be? Tiger shark, Mako, bull, Great White…’ I swam for my life… They were yelling at us because it’s the worst thing to do is to swim away from the shark and make all the splashing. I was like, ‘Guys, you yelled shark… How else do people react? I practically walked on water back to the boat.’"

MENDES TO TAKE WILLY WONKA TO THE STAGE

The director has commissioned Scottish playwright David Greig to write the script and he has recruited Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman - the musical minds behind 2007’s hit Hairspray - to provide the score.
Dahl’s 1964 story first made it to the big screen in 1971, with Gene Wilder starring as chocolate maker Willy Wonka. Johnny Depp revived the role in a 2005 remake, directed by Tim Burton.

AUSTEN’S EMMA TO GET BOLLYWOOD TREATMENT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

JANE AUSTEN’s classic novel EMMA is to adapted again - for Bollywood.
Following the success of the movie adaptation of Austin’s Pride & Prejudice (Bride & Prejudice), Indian filmmakers have gone back in time to recreate another classic piece of English literature from the author.
Sonam Kapoor will take on the lead in a modern retelling of the story, titled Aisha, which will be set in Delhi.
Gwyneth Paltrow famously played Austen’s historic heroine in 1996’s Emma and the role has been played on TV in Britain by Kate Beckinsale, Romola Garai and Doran Godwin.
But the new Bollywood version has upset Indian purists, who believe moviemakers should be mining homegrown classic literature before looking overseas for ideas.
Leading U.S. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed says, "India is rich in literary and folk traditions and had an abundance of masterpieces readily convertible for films. Why remake an oft-repeated story, set in a foreign land, for Indian audiences?"

ITALIAN ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUP CALL FOR DIRECTOR’S ARREST OVER BULL SLAUGHTER SCENE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

Italy’s entry for the Best Foreign Film prize at the 2010 Oscars is at the centre of a new animal cruelty controversy.
Officials at the country’s National Association for Animal Protection (ENPA) are calling for censors to pull Giuseppe Tornatore’s film Baaria from cinemas over a gruesome bull slaughter scene.
ENPA leader Carla Rocchi has filed a complaint calling the scene, in which a bull has its throat slit while still alive, "senseless cruelty." The animal rights group officials also suggest the filmmaker should be prosecuted.
At the recent Venice Film Festival, where the movie premiered, Cinema Paradiso director Tornatore revealed the bull scene was shot in a slaughterhouse in Tunisia with a real animal.

SONY VAULTS FULL OF UNRELEASED JACKSON TUNES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:09 am

Sony bosses have vaults full of of unreleased MICHAEL JACKSON recordings, which they plan to release sparingly in the coming months and years.
At least five new tracks will appear on the soundtrack to Jackson’s new concert rehearsal movie This Is It, including the title track and a spoken word poem called Planet Earth.
And Sony chairman Rob Stringer admits there’s plenty more music where those tunes came from.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "We have a lot of music in the vaults. We will take our time with the rest of the material." And there’s more music in vaults at soul label Motown, according to Jackson’s one-time producer Samm Brown.
Shortly after the King of Pop’s death in June (09), he told WENN, "Michael was such a perfectionist and he had a lot of stuff that he didn’t use. I know, for a fact, that Motown has a deep vault and I would say there are 100 or more tracks sitting at Motown alone.
"There will be somebody in his (Jackson) camp who will want to release all of the lost tracks he recorded - dating way back to the 1960s. There’s huge money to be made off of these recordings."

AUDIGIER: ‘I HAVEN’T BOUGHT NEVERLAND’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:06 am

French fashion designer CHRISTIAN AUDIGIER has dismissed reports he has bought MICHAEL JACKSON’s Neverland Ranch home in Santa Barbara County, California.
The man behind the popular Ed Hardy clothing line reportedly paid $90 million (£60 million) for his friend’s former home, but he insists he would never have bought a place that only held bad memories for the King of Pop.
Jackson moved out Neverland in 2005 after the estate was raided by investigators looking for clues that would put the singer behind bars for child molestation.
Audigier tells HollyScoop.com, "He didn’t like Neverland. He didn’t want to go back there… so it’s not Neverland at all." But the fashion king has confirmed he plans to turn the Holmby Hills estate Jackson was renting when he died into a museum: "I have purchased the home Michael passed away in… I want to create a memorabilia and museum.
"So far, I’m buying a big collection of memorabilia and personal objects that he has." And he reveals Jackson’s last home was in a magical neighbourhood: "Nobody knows that two streets past his house was Elvis Presley’s house. So two kings lived in the same area."
