3. Drake

GELBART’S GRUDGE OVER TOOTSIE CREDIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:42 pm

Late screenwriter LARRY GELBART accused DUSTIN HOFFMAN of refusing to give him credit for writing TOOTSIE.
Gelbart died last month (Sep09) after a battle with cancer but in an interview conducted a year before his passing, he blamed the actor for declaring it was his pal Murray Schisgal who conceived of the 1982 comedy, about an entertainer who dresses as a woman to find work.
But Gelbart, who won an Academy Award for co-writing the film, was adamant the idea for the screenplay was his own.
He told Mike Sacks, "Tootsie is my vision, despite Dustin Hoffman’s lifelong mission to deprive anybody of any credit connected with that movie, except for his close friend, the writer and producer Murray Schisgal.
"I say that because Dustin appeared with James Lipton on (TV series) Inside the Actors Studio in 2006 and declared that the Tootsie idea sprang from Schisgal’s intestines. I don’t know much about gastroenterology, but I do know that the central theme for Tootsie came from me. And the central theme was that Dustin’s character, Michael Dorsey, would become a better man for having been a woman. That was the cornerstone of the film. All of the other details are just floating around that idea." Gelbart shared his Best Original Screenplay Oscar with Schisgal and Don McGuire.

DIRECTOR PULLS SWISS FILM PREMIERE IN SUPPORT OF POLANSKI

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:42 pm

Director JAN KOUNEN cancelled the Swiss premiere of his new movie COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY at the Zurich Film Festival on Friday (02Oct09) to protest the arrest of ROMAN POLANSKI.
The Chinatown filmmaker was taken into custody by Swiss officials on 26 September (09) in connection with a 31-year-old child sex case.
Polanski, who was due to collect a top honour at the film festival, is now fighting extradition to the U.S. to face sentencing for having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor - a charge he pleaded guilty to before fleeing to France in 1978.
A host of his Hollywood pals have come out in defence of Polanski, and Kounen showed his support for the controversial director by withdrawing his movie from the festival’s line-up.
The film, about a 1920s love affair between the French fashion designer and Russian composer Stravinsky, was due to be screened on Friday night, but the showing was pulled at Kounen’s request, festival spokeswoman Nadja Schildknecht confirmed.

GARNER STRUGGLES WITH SLOW AFFLECK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:00 pm

JENNIFER GARNER would hate to be under husband BEN AFFLECK’s direction on a movie set - because he takes so much time with his work.
The happy couple has been married for more than four years, but Garner admits she would struggle to take orders from her other half.
She says, "I don’t want to because he is not the world’s fastest director, and I like to get in and do my work and go home and put the kids to bed.
"I’m afraid there would be this moment where I would say, ‘Okay. You’ve got it. I promise you it is in the can. I’ve got to go home.’ But you know, life is long and I never say never. I think Ben is brilliant at what he does. I am so happy for him and proud of him."

BATHORY SLAMS DISAPPEARANCE STUNT REPORTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:57 pm

Guitarist ZOLTAN BATHORY has laughed off speculation his disappearance last month (Sep09) was a stunt to publicise his metal band FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH.
The musician sparked a massive manhunt in Las Vegas after he disappeared from a party following the band’s show in Sin City and was found days later, just in time to begin their U.S. tour.
Bathory is adamant he was only out of touch with his bandmates because he had broken his cellphone - and was shocked to discover the dilemma had courted such publicity.
He says, "For a PR stunt, I could think of a million better things than ‘woohoo, rock musician gets s**tfaced in Vegas and disappears for few days.’ "My cellphone ended up taking a dip in a swimming pool somewhere so I was off the grid for a couple of days. It was a raw weekend, and a lot of stupid stuff fits in 48 hours in Vegas. When I called my manager, he was like, ‘F**k, dude, half of the country is looking for you.’ I thought it was just a figure of speech, (but) apparently it wasn’t - it was bizarre."

OSBOURNE: ‘DOCTORS TOLD ME I HAD AIDS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:54 pm

Rock wildman OZZY OSBOURNE ravaged his body so badly with drink and drugs, doctors wrongly diagnosed him with Aids.
The Black Sabbath frontman was tested for the deadly virus during his heady heyday, and was left in shock when a blood test came back as HIV positive.
He tells Britain’s Glamour magazine, "I went to the doctor and had an Aids test and he told me it was positive.
"That was one of the worst days of my life." But after undergoing another blood test, the star was relieved to hear he had been misdiagnosed because of the impact his hedonistic lifestyle had taken on his immune system.
He adds, "When I used to f**king get loaded I would get myself into all kinds of situations.
"It turned out that because I was drinking and using drugs so much, my immune system had dropped so that it was a borderline result.
"When I went back to be tested again it was negative."

LA TOYA RECALLS MUM’S SCREAMS AFTER MICHAEL’S DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:51 pm

LA TOYA JACKSON fought back tears on U.K. TV as she recalled how her mother screamed down the phone when she found out her son MICHAEL had died.
La Toya was on her way to hospital after receiving an urgent call from her father Joe telling her that the King of Pop had been taken ill.
But the star admits she almost crashed the car after hearing her grief-stricken mother Katherine shout down the phone that her beloved brother had passed away just minutes before she arrived at the medical facility.
And La Toya reveals the initial call eerily came just moments after she had been discussing the passing of actress Farrah Fawcett - who died on the same say as Jackson in June (09).
She tells Britain’s GMTV, "I was actually at home, my father called me. I was speaking with my business partner, who had just told me about Farrah (Fawcett). And I said, ‘Oh my, who’s next?’ Because it always happens in threes. And the next thing, my father had called me and said, ‘I need to you to rush over to the hospital immediately.’ And I said, ‘What is it?’ And he said, ‘It’s your brother, Michael. They took him to the hospital.’ He called back five minutes later and said, ‘You have to go there, you have to. I hear it’s serious, you have to go to the hospital.’ "I was driving over to the hospital and I was speaking to my mother’s assistant, and I kept asking how he was doing, and he (the assistant) just wouldn’t answer me. And I heard my mother in the background say, ‘Who is that?’ And she grabbed the phone and screamed down the phone, screamed at the top of her lungs, ‘He’s dead, he’s dead.’ And I heard it and I almost crashed the car so many times as I tried to get over there, even though I was only three minutes away." The Thriller hitmaker died on 25 June (09), after suffering a cardiac arrest. Farrah Fawcett died earlier the same day following a long battle with cancer.

SCHIFFER: ‘NO MORE RUNWAY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:51 pm

German supermodel CLAUDIA SCHIFFER has vowed never to step foot on a fashion runway again.
The beauty has been modelling for almost 20 years, but she’s had enough of strutting her stuff down the catwalk, preferring to watch the shows instead of star in them.
She says, "I’m finished with the runway. I won’t miss it. I am still modelling and I enjoy that a lot but no more runways. I can sit on the side and view the outfits and see all the detail and that suits me fine. It’s very enjoyable. I like my new viewpoint."
