ONO’S INSECURITY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:09 pm

YOKO ONO grew up so insecure about her looks, husband JOHN LENNON had to constantly reassure her about her beauty.
The Japanese performer claims she inherited her father’s bone structure and always felt she had more masculine than feminine features.
She reveals, "All my life my mother told me that I had strong jaws like a guy. It was not womanly. Well, I got them from my father, I think. So yes, I won’t say I am particularly feminine." Ono reveals that Lennon fought to boost her self-esteem during their marriage, adding, "I used to hide my jaws with my long hair. John used to say, ‘Show me your face!’ and took my hair out of my face. ‘Look, you’re beautiful. I don’t know why you are hiding with your hair.’ I kept myself hidden." But she does admit the Beatle had an unkind nickname for her, to poke fun at her odd physique: "My head was unusually large for my small body. So John called me a Martian."

GEORGE: ‘I TURNED COWELL DOWN’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:06 pm

SIMON COWELL wanted to transform Aussie actress MELISSA GEORGE into "the next KYLIE MINOGUE" - but she turned him down.
The former Grey’s Anatomy star was a teen sensation in Australian soap opera Home & Away when she was offered the chance of a music career during a trip to London.
But she insisted on pursuing acting - and years later realised music mogul Cowell was the man behind the record company offer.
She says, "I was 17 and enjoying success in Home & Away. While visiting London, a record company asked me in for a meeting and offered me a record deal without even hearing me sing. I suppose they thought I looked the part.
"Years later I saw Simon Cowell on American Idol and realised it was the same guy who offered me the deal. I could never have been the next Kylie - my singing voice is too deep and husky. I can manage an impersonation of Brigitte Bardot and that’s about it." Minogue shot to fame in her native Australia in the 1980s with her role in soap opera Neighbours before launching her singing career.

MINOGUE WOWS FAMOUS FANS ON FIRST U.S. TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:06 pm

PARIS HILTON and HOWARD STERN were among the celebrity fans who joined KYLIE MINOGUE’s boyfriend ANDRES VELENCOSO as she performed in Las Vegas on Saturday night (03Oct09).
Minogue kicked off her first U.S. tour in Oakland, California last week (ends02Oct09) and followed that show up with dates at the Palms in Las Vegas and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl over the weekend (03-04Oct09).
Hilton was so excited about seeing her heroine live in Sin City she ‘tweeted’ fans during the show.
Joined by boyfriend Doug Reinhardt, she wrote, "Just met Kylie Minogue, she is so gorgeous, sweet, adorable, cool and amazing! I’m so happy I got to meet her! Amazing! Huge! I Love Kylie!" And, just like Hilton was energised on Saturday, Minogue herself was awed when she hit the stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday. She told fans, "Playing at the Bowl is just beyond words. I can’t believe I’m standing on hallowed ground. And if I think about it too long I’ll get far too emotional." Minogue dazzled from the stage, performing in a series of costumes including one that featured a planets headpiece and futuristic space mini-dress.

LOHAN’S FASHION DEBUT PANNED BY CRITICS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:06 pm

LINDSAY LOHAN’s first collection as EMANUEL UNGARO’s artistic adviser has been panned by critics, who have dubbed the show "an embarrassment" to the actress.
The Mean Girls was named a style consultant for the French brand just last month (Sep09).
She has spent last few weeks putting together a line with head designer Estrella Archs before the line debuted at Sunday’s (04Oct09) show during Paris Fashion Week.
Models strutted down the runway wearing Lohan’s blazers and mini-dresses at Paris’ Louvre museum.
The debut was emotional for the star, who shed tears walking the runway and admitted the role she played in creating the range was "the hardest thing I’ve ever done".
However, the 23-year-old’s efforts have left fashion U.S. fashion critics unimpressed.
One reviewer from The New York Times notes dresses that appeared to be painted on and left "several people in the audience aghast".
Meanwhile a Women’s Wear Daily critic has called her creations "an embarrassment," adding that the audience watched the runway with "endless snickers and rolled eyes." Encouraging Lohan to return to her acting roots, the critic added: "Lindsay, it’s time to get serious about reviving the acting career. Being a young, pretty, controversial woman who looks good in clothes and photo ops just isn’t enough."

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL - THE BIG STINK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:03 pm

Music fans who attended the third and final day of this weekend’s (02-04Oct09) Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas were left filthy and smelly when heavy rain obliterated the Zilker Park site, and brought sewage to the surface.
According to local newspaper the Austin-American Statesman, organisers have shut the park down for two weeks as they work to revamp newly-laid grassland ruined by festivalgoers.
Reports suggest fans who stayed to watch Sunday night (04Oct09) headliners Pearl Jam were hit by the stench of compost laid underneath the grass in the weeks leading up to the event.
One festivalgoer says, Friday was a perfect day - sunshine and blue skies but then the rains came and, by Sunday, the place had turned into a bog." Pearl Jam made sure the faithful who put up with the smell and the mud were treated to a memorable set, bringing Ben Harper and Perry Farrell up to join them onstage.
Harper joined the band for a rendition of Red Mosquito, while Farrell took over lead vocals for a cover of his act Jane’s Addiction’s Mountain Song.
Jack White’s band the Dead Weather, the Arctic Monkeys and Spearhead were among the other groups who performed amid the mud on Sunday.
The three-day festival also featured Kings of Leon, Dave Matthews Band, Dave Grohl’s supergroup Them Crooked Vultures and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

NELSON LOOMS LARGE OVER FARM AID IN MISSOURI

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:03 pm

Farm Aid’s first Missouri benefit was all about charity founder WILLIE NELSON, who headlined Sunday’s (04Oct09) show at St Louis’ Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre.
The grizzled country singer and activist, who helped create the annual Farm Aid concert in 1986, joined Dave Matthews and Neil Young onstage before ending the show with many of the event’s performers and a choir of Native Americans.
Prior to his headlining slot, fellow Farm Aid regular John Mellencamp and Wilco also played short sets.
Matthews paid tribute to Nelson after the country star joined him for a rendition of Grave Digger, telling the crowd, "There are few people like him on earth. The more we get behind things he believes in, the better we’ll be." Nelson also made the festival a family affair when he invited his son Lukas to join him onstage for a rendition of fan favourite Me & Paul.

BOUNTY KILLER REFUSED ENTRY INTO TRINIDAD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:00 pm

Jamaican reggae star BOUNTY KILLER was forced to abandon a truce concert with rival singer VYBZ KARTEL in Trinidad on Sunday (04Oct09) when he was denied entry into the country.
The artists, who fell out in 2006 when Kartel left Bounty Killer’s group The Alliance, were due to squash their differences in a public show of peace.
But the concert had to be scrapped when Bounty Killer, real name Rodney Price, was turned away at the border and had to fly back to Jamaica.
Verne Extavour, a concert promoter for Jacho Entertainment, claimed no explanation was given for the refused entry.
The last time the controversial star performed in Trinidad, he was arrested on stage and charged with using obscene language after ignoring officials’ warnings about profanity in public. He also ran into trouble with Jamaican authorities last year (08) when he used foul language during another concert.
It is not known whether the show will be rescheduled.

DJ AM’S FAMILY CONFIRMS DRUG INTERVENTION SHOW TO AIR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:00 pm

ADAM ‘DJ AM’ GOLDSTEIN’s grieving family has given MTV producers the green light to air the hard-hitting documentary the star was making before he died in August (09).
The DJ had filmed eight episodes of Gone Too Far before he was found dead of an accidental drug overdose in his New York apartment on 28 August, aged 36.
In the series, Goldstein offered help, support and tough love to troubled addicts.
A former substance abuser himself, the DJ slipped back to his dark past just before the tragedy. A cocktail of drugs were found in his body and reports suggest he promised his longtime sponsor he’d enter rehab just before he died.
Now Goldstein’s family hopes his efforts will inspire addicts to get clean.
A statement from the family reads: "After careful consideration we have decided to air the show. Adam felt strongly that by doing this series he could help other addicts who were at a crisis point to get sober. Adam was fully aware that if it were not for his own sobriety he never would have achieved the level of success and happiness he had found. Helping people in their recovery was a huge part of Adam’s life.
"It is our hope through airing this show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others. The decision to air the show has been difficult, but we do this with the profound belief that it will inspire others to seek help." Gone Too Far is set to premiere in the U.S. on 12 October (09) - just one week after its original premiere date.

METHOD MAN CHARGED WITH TAX EVASION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:00 pm

Rapper METHOD MAN is facing up to four years behind bars after authorities in New York charged him with tax evasion.
The Wu-Tang Clan rapper - real name Clifford Smith - surrendered to police on Monday (05Oct09) and was arraigned in Staten Island’s Stapleton Criminal Court.
He is accused of failing to pay personal income tax from 2004 to 2007, totalling $32,799 (£21,870), not including fees and penalties.
He faces a felony charge of repeated failure to file personal income and earnings tax. He also faces a misdemeanour charge of failure to pay tax.
Prosecutors have vowed to fiercely go after the star.
District Attorney Daniel Donovan says, "Taxes are the burden that all citizens share in a civil society, whether you are an ‘average Joe’ on the street or a high-profile rap artist. Because of the alleged action of people like Mr. Smith, law abiding citizens face higher taxes and reduced government services. Failure to properly report and pay your taxes is a crime against all citizens and will be aggressively investigated and prosecuted." This is not the first of the rapper’s financial woes. In March (09), Smith’s 2008 Lincoln Navigator was repossessed from outside his Staten Island by the Department of Taxation amid reports he owed the government $52,503 (£35,000) in back taxes.
The rapper is due back in court on 9 December (09).

ACCUSED TV PRODUCER’S LAWYER: ‘LETTERMAN IS A MASTER MANIPULATOR’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:57 pm

DAVID LETTERMAN is a "master manipulator" according to a lawyer representing the producer accused of trying to extort $2 million (GBP1.3 million) from the talk show host.
Letterman revealed during his late night show on Thursday (01Oct09) that he had been blackmailed over his sexual affairs with several female members of staff.
TV producer Robert ‘Joe’ Halderman was arrested in New York on Thursday on charges of attempted grand larceny in the first degree.
Halderman’s attorney Gerald L. Shargel appeared on U.S. breakfast programme the Today show on Monday morning (05Oct09) - accusing Letterman of twisting the truth and promising to reveal evidence at trial that will exonerate his client.
Shargel said, "The case described by the prosecution makes no sense…. The public should not simply take the word of David Letterman at face value or the word of the prosecutor at face value." Criticising Letterman, he added, "He has access to the media, he has access to a huge audience. David Letterman didn’t give his side of the story. David Letterman gave what he wanted the public to know. He wanted to get out ahead of the story and that’s exactly what he did. He is a master of manipulating audiences. That’s what he (does) for a living, so to think David Letterman gave the entire story and there’s nothing more to be said is simply wrong." Halderman was reportedly involved in a relationship with Letterman’s former assistant Stephanie Birkitt, who allegedly enjoyed an affair with Letterman until 2003.
Letterman married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March (09).

HECHE KEEPS KIDS FROM HER MOTHER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:51 pm

ANNE HECHE hasn’t introduced her sons to their grandmother - because the actress’ mum now works as a therapist who teaches how to "overcome" homosexuality.
Heche was sexually abused as a child by her evangelical Christian father, a closet homosexual who died of Aids in 1983. After his death, her mother Nancy joined Focus on the Family to preach against same-sex relations.
And Heche, who dated comedienne Ellen DeGeneres in the 1990s, doesn’t want her sons Atlas, five months, and Homer, seven, to meet their grandmother, who hates "anything gay".
She explains, "My mother’s had a very tragic life. Three of her five children are dead, and her husband is dead. That she is attempting to change gay people into straight people is, in my opinion, a way to keep the pain of the truth out. People wonder why I am so forthcoming with the truths that have happened in my life, and it’s because the lies that I have been surrounded with and the denial that I was raised in, for better or worse, bore a child of truth and love.
"My mother preaches to this day the opposite of that core of my life. It is no mistake that she still stands up against love. And one wonders why I’m not rushing to have her meet my children."

HECHE: ‘EX-HUSBAND WILL NEVER WORK AGAIN’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

ANNE HECHE is convinced her ex-husband COLEY LAFFOON will never find a job as long as she provides him with monthly child support payments.
The actress’ divorce from Laffoon was finalised in March (09), when the Los Angeles Superior Court ordered her to pay him a lump sum of $515,000 (£343,000) as well as $3,700 (£2,500) every month to provide for their seven-year-old son Homer.
She made it clear their split was anything but amicable when she appeared on U.S. TV in August (09) and ranted about her "lazy a**" ex making his living off her acting work.
Heche insists Laffoon is still unemployed - and she fears he’ll stay that way because of her regular court-ordered payments.
The star says, "I pay an extraordinary amount of money to him, and it’s unfortunate because it is what I believe keeps him from getting a job."

DYLAN/MADONNA AGENT TO WRITE MEMOIR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

BOB DYLAN and MADONNA’s former talent manager JOAN HYLER has set out to write a memoir about her A-list clients - after recovering from a four-month coma following a near-fatal car accident.
Hyler sustained "severe and multiple injuries" after she was hit by a car on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California on 15 August 2008.
She was thrown 25 feet in the air and airlifted to UCLA Medical Center with a collapsed lung, crushed pelvis and broken shoulder in addition to leg injuries.
Hyler accepted the Courage Award on Thursday (01Oct09) at the UCLA Neurosurgery Visionary Ball, following months gruelling rehabilitation work, through which she has relearned how to speak and walk.
Hyler’s longtime clients Diane Lane, Alfred Molina, Amber Tamblyn, Amber Heard and Karen Allen were in attendance - and learned of her plans to chronicle her recovery in a memoir covering over 30 years as a talent manager and successful producer, reports Daily Variety.
Thanking her supporters, she told the crowd: "The community rallied around me, and it sustained me… New York was the epicenter of the business then, run by Scorsese, De Niro, Pacino, Streep. They are still around, and so am I."

ETHERIDGE FEELING HEALTHY WITH NEW DIET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

Cancer survivor MELISSA ETHERIDGE feels fitter than ever after completely revamping her diet to avoid processed Western foods.
The Come To My Window hitmaker was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and underwent chemotherapy before declaring herself cancer-free the following year (05).
The health scare inspired the singer to change her lifestyle - and she credits her new natural diet with improving her wellbeing.
She tells OKmagazine.com, "I looked at food differently (after having cancer). I stepped back, and found that our bodies were like batteries. We need alkaline enough to survive. Of course, the Western diet is mostly acidic, and that is what causes our bodies to be acidic. Acid is where cancer grows. I realised we have to eat more alkaline, which, of course, is fruits and vegetables and whole grains.
"I’m not one to tell myself, ‘I can never have another cup of coffee, or I can never eat a hot fudge sundae.’ No. That has to be the treat - the once a week or the once every two weeks - and the rest of the time is spent eating good, healthy salads, fresh fruits and vegetables - and trying not to eat things that come out of buildings.
"I try to eat things that come from the ground. I try to eat something that’s grown, and comes right to me, because that’s where the life force is. That’s where the energy is."

BEYONCE TAKES UP BIKE RIDING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:45 pm

BEYONCE keeps a low profile on her days off by riding around on a bicycle.
The Irreplaceable hitmaker admits she has taken to two wheels to travel around cities when she is away on tour and she enjoys the anonymity being on a bike gives her.
She tells Billboard, "I started riding a bike on my days off with others like my assistant and stylist.
"It’s amazing how I’m able to ride around on a bike. People kind of see it’s me but since I’m on a bike, they think, ‘No, it’s not her.’ And by the time they realise it’s me, I’m already gone. It’s great to do something normal every day. It keeps me grounded."
