BLANCHETT’S INDIAN SUMMER GETS THE GO AHEAD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:45 am

CATE BLANCHETT’s new movie about Lady Edwina Mountbatten’s alleged affair with India’s first Prime Minister JAWAHARLAL NEHRU has been given the OK to commence filming following a review of the film’s plot and script.
Indian film officials feared the period romance Indian Summer would not show the beloved Nehru in a good light and insisted on checking out the project before granting producers access to locations.
The production was put on hold to allow government officials to see how the affair between Nehru and Mountbatten, the wife of the last British viceroy of India, would be played out.
A source tells WENN, "After scrutinising the script, the officials wanted some incidents removed, like the Nehru-Edwina kiss and their being in the bed together (sic).
"The makers have also been told to state that the film is a fictional work, and any changes in the script should seek pre-approval." Last month (Sep09), Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed welcomed the caution surrounding the film, telling WENN, "While we welcome Hollywood attempts to show India’s history on the big screen, we’d urge the filmmakers to portray India’s historical events authentically.
"We’d ask them not to re-imagine India’s history just for mercantile greed." The film is set to be released in 2011.
