INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS ADVERT AVOIDS BAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

An advert for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS has escaped a ban by Britain’s advertising watchdog after scores of complaints it is inappropriate for children.
The Quentin Tarantino war movie was released in the U.K. in August (09) and was heavily promoted on television, radio and in the press.
More than 20 people protested about the use of the word "Basterds", claiming it was unsuitable and offensive.
But officials at Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have rejected the complaints, ruling the adverts were "unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence or be seen as socially irresponsible."

QUAIDS TOLD TO RETURN TO CALIFORNIA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Authorities are urging RANDY and EVI QUAID to surrender themselves to California police to face charges over an unpaid hotel bill.
Houston native Quaid and his partner were taken into custody in Marfa, Texas last week (24Sep09) after a California judge issued an arrest warrant for the pair, citing an outstanding $10,000 (£6,660) hotel bill they allegedly racked up at the luxury San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara.
They were released after each posting $20,000 (£13,300) bail but have yet to return to California, where they are facing three felony charges of allegedly burglarising and defrauding the hotel owner.
California bosses are now threatening to send law enforcement officials to Texas to apprehend the Brokeback Mountain star and his spouse if they fail to return voluntarily.
Santa Barbara District Attorney Lee Carter tells RadarOnline.com, "We are seeking their voluntary return to California. We are hopeful that a date will be set for the Quaids in the very near future."

Polanski’s legal team has asked the Swiss Federal Criminal Court to free him but has been informed a decision could take weeks. Even if officials rule in his favour, it is likely the Swiss government will appeal the decision.
In the meantime, Polanski is expected to remain behind bars while he fights extradition.

CONTROVERSY OVER NAKED SHIELDS PHOTO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

Children’s campaigners in the U.K. have blasted plans to display a naked photo of a ten-year-old BROOKE SHIELDS as part of an art exhibition.
A nude snap of The Blue Lagoon star posing in a bathtub when she was a child is set to go on show as part of the Pop Life: Art In A Material World exhibition at the Tate Modern in the U.K. capital.
The controversial photograph has been separated from the other exhibits and hangs in its own room behind a closed door, with a notice warning visitors they may find the work "challenging".
The move has been met with fury by children’s campaigners, who have branded it a "magnet" for paedophiles.
Michele Elliott, founder of Kidscape, says, "Brooke Shields was 10 years old when this picture was taken. She could not have given informed consent to it being used. It must be bordering on child pornography. It is certainly not art.
"If you are using a picture of a naked child to bring people to your exhibition, then you are exploiting that child. It’s as if they are using a 10-year-old girl for bait. I find it disturbing and they should be ashamed of themselves. And putting the picture in a room with a warning outside really is a magnet for paedophiles." Officials at the Tate Modern have defended the inclusion of the photograph - but admit they consulted lawyers before deciding to display the provocative piece.
A spokesperson says, "As with any artwork that contains challenging imagery, Tate has sought legal advice and evaluated the situation. Tate has taken measures to inform visitors of the nature of the work, providing information outlining the intentions of the artist." The original image was taken in 1975 by artist Gary Cross. In 1981, Shields lost a court battle to purchase back the negatives.
The exhibition opens on Thursday (01Oct09).

SWAYZE’S DEATH MAKES LOWE APPRECIATE ACTING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:54 am

ROB LOWE is glad he is an actor - because he will be immortalised on the big screen like his close pal PATRICK SWAYZE.
The star appeared alongside Swayze in his breakthrough film, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders, and was left devastated when the star died on 14 September (09) following a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
But the tragic news has made Lowe reflect on his own life and appreciate that he will forever be remembered through the films and TV shows he has been in.
He says, "He was like a brother to me. One of the great gifts we get (as actors) is that we live on, frozen in time, forever… Truly, the most fulfilling moments I’ve ever had are on the stage. If you can’t have that as an actor, then you might as well at least have that other great thing, which is immortality."

However, the musician has now stated that although the members stay in contact, they have no further plans to get back on the road together.
He tells NME.com, "We’re in touch and we say ‘Wotcha’ (hello) and all that but nothing has been mentioned about any more shows or anything else.

MOBO FOUNDER DEFENDS GLASGOW DECISION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:51 am

Organisers of Britain’s prestigious Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards have hit back at accusations Glasgow, Scotland is the wrong host city for the ceremony over claims it is "very white".
The annual event, now in its 14th year, has historically been held in London, and celebrates the U.K.’s urban music scene.
However, the decision to take the awards out of the multi-cultural British capital and transfer it to Glasgow for the 2009 bash has come under criticism from those who believe the city’s mainly white population does not represent the spirit of the event.
Mobo panellist Paul McKenzie recently suggested more culturally diverse British cities, such as Leeds, Cardiff and Birmingham, "would have made more sense".
But founder Kanya King has hit back at the claims, insisting she is "exhilarated" to take the show outside of London - despite big nominated stars such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Kanye West all snubbing the event.
She tells the BBC, "Glasgow is full of great music. Glasgow is sexy. We have got all the coolest stars coming here. There is real passion for music here.
"We are going to show them sexy, we are going to show them cool, we are going to show them passion." The awards will take place on 30 September (09).

WRIGHT LEAVES FORTUNE TO THREE CHILDREN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:48 am

Late PINK FLOYD star RICK WRIGHT left the majority of his estate to his three children - but failed to mention his three former wives in his will.
The keyboardist made a $26 million (£24 million) fortune during his career with the rock legends, as well as with his solo projects.
He died in September 2008 aged 65 following a short battle with cancer.
In documents obtained by Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, Wright decided to leave most of his fortune to his offspring, James, 42, Gala, 39, and Ben, who was born the year before he died.
However, the musician’s three former wives, Juliette, Franka and Mildred - who separated from Wright in the months before his death - will not receive any money from his estate.
It is believed the trio had settlements arranged with the star following their splits. None of them are said to be disputing the will.
And in real rock star tradition, Wright put aside $30,000 (£20,000) so his friends and family could have a "real good party", which will be arranged by his two eldest children.
James and Gala were also left Wright’s house in France.

ODOM: ‘MY MARRIAGE TO KHLOE IS THE REAL DEAL’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

KHLOE KARDASHIAN’s new husband LAMAR ODOM has lashed out at claims the pair’s rushed wedding is for publicity - insisting the marriage is "real".
The basketball star and reality TV socialite wed in a lavish ceremony in Hollywood on Sunday (27Sep09), after just a month of dating.
However, the U.S. media has suggested the union could be a money-spinning exercise, after Kardashian was offered a $250,000 (£167,000) contract allowing OK! magazine to feature the nuptials in an exclusive spread.
The pair’s wedding also isn’t legally binding until they finalise the terms of a pre-nuptial agreement - which is currently in negotiations.
But Odom is eager to dismiss any speculation suggesting the marriage isn’t the real deal.
He says, "It was real. It’s crazy how perception works in America when you’re looking at things from the outside. ‘It might be off, it might be on.’ But anybody that was there will tell you that it was a beautiful event and it was real."

GOLDBERG UNDER FIRE OVER POLANSKI COMMENTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

WHOOPI GOLDBERG has come under fire for suggesting ROMAN POLANSKI’s sex with a 13 year old girl was not "rape-rape".
The director was arrested in Switzerland on Saturday (26Sep09) and is currently fighting extradition to the U.S. over his 1977 conviction for unlawful sex with a minor.
The acclaimed director fled the U.S. before he was sentenced, claiming the judge in the case reneged on a plea bargain deal. He later settled in France.
Talking of his arrest on U.S. show The View, the Ghost actress insisted she believes the incident wasn’t rape in the strict meaning of the term.
She said, "It was something, but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.
"He went to jail and when they let him out he was like, ‘This guy’s gonna give me 100 years. I’m not staying.’ "We’re a different kind of society, we see things differently. Would I want my 14 year old having sex? Not necessarily, no." However, the comments have caused outrage with The Frisky women’s website founder Amelia McDonnell, who brands Goldberg "an apologist for rape".
