TV STAR VERDI VICTORIOUS OVER MAGAZINE EDITOR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

American TV star ROBERT VERDI has won his two-year legal battle against a fashion editor over an unpaid loan.
The Full Frontal Fashion host loaned $5,000 (£3,333) to Details magazine style director Michael Macko in 2007.
In August (09), Verdi filed suit against Macko in a small-claims court after receiving only one $500 (£333) payment.
Macko, who did not show at the hearing, was ordered to pay Verdi $4,500 (£3,000) plus interest and court costs.
Verdi’s lawyer tells the New York Post, "It is our hope that Michael Macko will honor the judgment of the court and pay the debt which he has admitted to owing." Macko had no comment as WENN went to press.

TAUTOU’S PHOTO HOBBY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:51 am

French actress AUDREY TAUTOU has an unusual collection - she keeps a photograph of every person who has interviewed her.
The Amelie star regularly takes pictures of journalists she speaks with so she doesn’t forget them, and hopes one day to incorporate the snaps into a project.
She tells the New York Daily News, "I haven’t done anything with the photos yet. I just keep them. But it’s just because I have met so many people for very short moments and all these moments for me disappear into the air. I find it a bit unreal. So I wanted to keep something concrete to make sure I was not wasting my time."

THERON THANKS MOTHER FOR CAREER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:27 am

CHARLIZE THERON suffered a meltdown when her dreams of becoming a prima ballerina were shattered - until her mother encouraged her to try acting.
The South African beauty trained as a ballet dancer in New York City but a knee injury at 19 left her devastated and ruined any chance she had of turning her passion into a career.
Now the star has heaped praise on her mother for helping her out of her slump - and launching her Hollywood career.
She tells OK! magazine, "I remember at night, at like two in the morning, with my mom in the City in a basement on, like, 21st Street, crying my eyes out and eating four pints of ice cream because I couldn’t dance anymore, and my mom saying ‘Well, why don’t you try acting?’ I mean… because of some crazy moment at 2am with Haagen-Dazs, I’m standing on a red carpet today." The actress has gone on to star in a series of hit films and even scooped an Academy Award for her performance in 2003’s Monster, but insists she doesn’t plan too far into the future.
She adds, "I try to live every day like tomorrow might not come. Not that I succeed at that every day, but I try to think that way and not too far ahead."

HECHE’S EMMY WIN IGNITED ACTING CAREER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 am

ANNE HECHE has credited her first Emmy win with launching her career - she didn’t consider herself a serious actress before taking home the prize.
The star, 40, won a Daytime Emmy in 1991 for her work on hit soap opera Another World but couldn’t accept the prestigious TV award because she was completing another acting job in the mid-west at the time.
She recalls, "I was in Nebraska in a Motel 6 shooting a Hallmark movie with Jessica Lange and so, I was actually sitting, eating a hamburger and fries on a skanky (dirty) bed, watching to see if I was going to win. And when they called my name, somebody came out and said, ‘Well, Anne can’t be here right now because she’s in Nebraska.’ Some weird, like, stiff person, ‘She’s not here…’" A stunned Heche couldn’t believe she’d been named the winner - and needed her agent to convince her she was talented enough to proceed with her career.
She explains, "The phone rang and it was my agent and I said, ‘Does this mean I’m an actress? Do I have to move to Hollywood or something?’ And she said, ‘Yeah, I think so.’ And that was it. The Emmy made me move."

AGUILERA OPENS UP ABOUT DOMESTIC ABUSE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 am

CHRISTINA AGUILERA overcame the childhood pain she suffered at the hands of an abusive father by channelling her emotions into music.
The Beautiful hitmaker has opened up about her violent father Fausto in a new TV documentary, admitting that the U.S. army sergeant made life hell for her, her mother and sister Rachel.
She tells E!, "I witnessed a lot of unpleasant things - a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling. Growing up I did not feel safe. Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from." Aguilera’s mother, Shelly, describes the extent of the abuse in the documentary, recalling one horrific incident when she found a four-year-old Aguilera with blood dripping from her chin.
The singer’s mother says, "I scooped her up and said, ‘Oh my God. What’s wrong?’ She told me, ‘Daddy wanted to take a nap and I made too much noise.’" Aguilera’s mother eventually fled from her violent husband, taking her daughters to live with their grandmother.
Her father has since begged forgiveness but the pop star has no desire to have a relationship with him, adding, "I let him back into my life briefly but I soon realised that he is not necessary in my life."

WILLIAMS: ‘I ALMOST QUIT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:24 am

ROBBIE WILLIAMS considered quitting his career in pop music to pursue charity work.
Five years ago the Angels hitmaker was depressed and worn out, and fled to Los Angeles to escape life in the public eye.
He convinced himself he would retire from music and take on a more charitable role.
He says, "I had burnt out. I was completely burnt out. That was it. I decided, I’m retiring. I didn’t say it but I thought it. I thought, ‘I’m going to go off and do something else’. I thought it would present itself to me. It would be a proper job. It would be humanitarian." But the singer never managed to send out his resume to any charities, and instead sought comfort in food.
He adds, "I just sat on my a**e and ATE. I was waiting on the sofa for something to happen and I wasn’t very proactive about searching for this other job." The cheeky pop star has now returned to Britain and relaunched his music career with new single Bodies, set for release next month (Oct09).

BARRYMORE’S NO-SHOW SPARKS CHAOS AT FILM FESTIVAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 am

DREW BARRYMORE infuriated organisers at the Toronto International Film Festival after failing to show at a press event for her directorial debut WHIP IT.
The star skipped the scheduled press junket for the upcoming roller derby movie at the Canadian festival at the weekend (begs19Sep09), aggravating event chiefs and waiting reporters.
Barrymore reportedly blamed a sore throat for the absence. However, U.S. reports suggest the actress was unwell after partying too hard at the star-studded festival earlier in the week.
A source tells the New York Post, "They had a press junket for Whip It at the Park Hyatt, and Drew completely bailed. The reason she cancelled is supposedly because she lost her voice."

INDIAN LEADERS HAPPY ABOUT MOUNTBATTEN FILM CAUTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 am

Indian cultural leaders are applauding a decision by the country’s film officials to halt a new CATE BLANCHETT movie so they can scrutinise the script.
The Oscar winner will reportedly play Lady Mountbatten in the film, Indian Summer, about the Brit’s alleged affair with India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The project, partly based on a memoir by Mountbatten’s daughter Pamela, is said to be "delicate" by top Indian officials, who want to check the script to make sure it’s respectful towards the wife of the former Indian Viceroy.
Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed has welcomed the caution, telling WENN, "While we welcome Hollywood attempts to show India’s history on the big screen, we’d urge the filmmakers to portray India’s historical events authentically.
"We’d ask them not to re-imagine India’s history just for mercantile greed." The film is set to be released in 2011.

NEW YORK GOVERNOR DENIES CLASH WITH MCCARTNEY’S GIRLFRIEND

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 am

The governor of New York has denied reports he demanded the resignation of SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s girlfriend amid allegations she abandoned her responsibilities as a state board member to romance the rocker.
The ex-Beatle’s beau of two years Nancy Shevell is among 16 unpaid members appointed by Governor David Paterson to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the agency that runs subways and buses for New York City’s eight million commuters.
Shevell sparked outcry earlier this year (09) as city leaders feared she was spending too much time with her boyfriend after she reportedly missed a series of top-level meetings.
New reports suggest a rift with Paterson over her dissenting vote on Thursday (17Sep09) to an incoming MTA chief’s salary package prompted the politician to call for her to step down from her position.
But a spokesperson for Paterson’s office has denied the claims, insisting there is "no truth" to the allegations.

WOOD’S SON RULES OUT A REUNION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 am

JO WOOD’s son JAMIE wishes his mum had divorced RONNIE WOOD a decade ago - because the split has made her so happy.
The Rolling Stones rocker, 61, split from his wife of 23 years last year (08), after his affair with 20-year-old Russian waitress Ekaterina Ivanova was exposed in the press amid speculation his drinking problem had spiralled out of control.
Jo has since managed to recover from the devastating break-up and is currently starring on U.K. TV talent contest Strictly Come Dancing - a move she never would have made if she was still with her ex, according to Jamie, her son from a previous marriage.
He says, "To be honest, although it’s been a difficult year, I think we wish it had happened years ago, given how great she’s doing. She’s happy, she’s dancing, she’s out there doing her thing. We tried to get dad sober, but, I guess, in the end it was all too much pressure."

JUANES PROMISES ‘PEACEFUL’ CUBAN CONCERT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:18 am

Colombian pop star JUANES promised fans a "peaceful" Paz Sin Fronteras (Peace Without Borders) concert in Havana, Cuba - despite threats he will be killed when he steps onstage.
The singer prepared for the historic show as planned on Sunday (20Sep09) - following weeks of attacks from some Cuban exiles, who claim the event is a show of support for the Fidel Castro regime and have threatened the Juanes’ life if he takes the stage at the Jose Marti Revolution Plaza concert.
Juanes - who insists the event has nothing to do with politics - has stepped up security for the 14 singers and bands from six countries who are set to perform at the free International Day of Peace concert.
He said upon his arrival in Cuba at the weekend (begs19Sep09): "This concert is one little grain of sand more in the process of improving relations through art. It is a gesture of peace, a way of weaving bonds of union." Other artists set to perform include Spanish pop acts Miguel Bose, Victor Manuel and Luis Eduardo Aute, Puerto Rican tropical star Olga Tanon and Cuban artists Amaury Perez, X Alfonso and Los Van Van.

BLINK-182 DONATES TO BURN CENTRES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 am

Rockers BLINK-182 have pledged a $100,000 (£67,000) donation to the burn centres that treated drummer TRAVIS BARKER after he nearly died in a harrowing plane crash last year (08).
Barker is the only remaining survivor from the accident, which occurred when a Learjet flying from South Carolina to Los Angeles failed to clear a runway and burst into flames.
His pal Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein also survived the tragedy but died of a suspected drug overdose last month (Aug09).
Two pilots and two other passengers were killed in the accident, which left both Goldstein and Barker with second and third-degree burns.
Now Barker is thanking the medical specialists that treated him at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Georgia and the Grossman Burn Center in California by donating proceeds from Blink-182’s show in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday (19Sep09).
A statement from the band says the donation is "being made in recognition of their tremendous care and aid of Travis Barker through his recovery from the 2008 plane crash".

DANSON INDIFFERENT TO EMMY WINS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 am

CHEERS star TED DANSON has stopped counting his Emmy wins, insisting "no one is paying any attention" to who takes home the prizes at the prestigious award show.
The actor was nominated this year (09) for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Arthur Frobisher on hit U.S. crime drama Damages.
Producers at an early Emmy ceremony this week (begs14Sep09) announced Rescue Me actor Michael J. Fox as the winner of the category - sending Danson home without a trophy.
But the actor insists he’s not upset by the loss because even his closest Hollywood pals seem to think he’s scooped dozens of Emmys.
He laughs, "I’ve already lost to Michael J. Fox, who is a friend. It’s no big deal, I’ve lost them before. I’ve been nominated 14 times. I lost 11 in a row before I actually won for Cheers. I used to be devastated and people used to (say), ‘You must’ve won a dozen of them!’ (But) I hadn’t won any yet. So you realise no one is paying any attention. They’re in their own world."

WINEHOUSE DROPS MOTHER-IN-LAW SUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:48 pm

AMY WINEHOUSE has reportedly agreed to drop a lawsuit against her former mother-in-law for selling the singer’s love letters to ex-husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL - to smooth over their divorce.
The Back to Black star was allegedly compiling a case against Fielder-Civil’s mother Georgette after she allowed intimate letters to be published in the British press last year (08).
Winehouse was set to file suit against her former extended family by taking Georgette to court for copyright infringement - and wanted $75,000 (£50,000) in damages.
But the singer agreed to drop the case against the 44-year-old after Fielder-Civil asked her to stop legal proceedings in a heartfelt phone call about their divorce settlement on Tuesday (15Sep09).
Georgette tells Britain’s News of the World newspaper, "He told Amy: ‘My mum’s only a hairdresser. That’s one of the conditions (of the divorce settlement) that you leave my mum alone so there is no more rift with the families.’ "Amy said she’d deal with it immediately, which is amazing. We’ve all been to hell." Fielder-Civil has reportedly dropped his demands for a $9 million (£6 million) divorce settlement from the star.
