HASSELHOFF HOSPITALISED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

DAVID HASSELHOFF was rushed to hospital on Sunday night (20Sep09) suffering from alcohol poisoning, according to U.S. reports.
The Baywatch star’s 17-year-old daughter Hayley discovered her father "extremely drunk" and rang her mother Pamela, whose friend called the emergency services to Hasselhoff’s home in Encino, California, according to TMZ.com.
Paramedics arrived at the family property and took the star to hospital.
Hasselhoff was hospitalised back in May (09) with alleged alcohol poisoning, although his spokesperson downplayed the reports, insisting the incident was not serious.
The 57 year old’s drink problem was exposed in 2007 when home video footage of the star in a drunken state leaked onto the internet. He was later checked into a rehabilitation facility in a bid to kick his alcohol demons.

WATSON DESIGNS FAIR TRADE FASHION RANGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

HARRY POTTER star EMMA WATSON is hoping to make ethical clothing stylish with a new range for teens - after previously branding fair trade fashion "kind of ugly".
The actress admitted in July (09) she was interested in clothing produced conscientiously but that "the stuff’s kind of ugly".
But now the budding fashionista, who currently models for luxury fashion house Burberry, is putting her stylish spin on sustainable clothing by serving as creative adviser for a new collection by People Tree, a fair trade organisation that aims to decrease poverty by providing jobs for people in third-world countries.
She explains, "I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with.
"I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices, but there aren’t many options out there."

BLUNT JOINS FIGHT AGAINST DOWNLOADING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:39 am

Singer JAMES BLUNT has waded into the debate over illegal downloading - a day after negotiations between artists and record labels broke down.
Army officer-turned-pop star Blunt has voiced support for singer Lily Allen, who hopes to launch a campaign to stamp out file-sharing before it destroys the music industry.
Allen’s views oppose those held by several members of the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC), who have voted against penalties for fans who download their music on the internet.
Blunt writes in Britain’s The Times newspaper, "I want to put my hand up in support of Lily Allen. She’s asking British musicians to galvanise over a serious crime: the death of a great British industry - our music business.
"The world over, people are stealing music in its millions in the form of illegal file-sharing. It’s easy to do, and has become accepted by many, but people need to know that it is destroying people’s livelihoods and suffocating emerging British artists…
"How this legislation pans out, and if it goes through at all, is critical to the survival of the British music business; critical to thousands of jobs; and critical to our ability to nurture and develop great musicians and the songs and albums that we would hope to listen to in the future." Blunt’s letter was published a day after the FAC failed to reach a decision following a week of talks with bosses of record labels such as Sony, who support U.K. Business Secretary Lord Mandelson’s plans to punish downloaders.
The FAC, which includes members of Radiohead and Blur, said in a statement on Sunday (20Sep09), "(The) power to demand suspensions of accounts is only achievable through a wide-scale invasion of personal privacy which we believe would result in a dangerous reduction in the rights to protection of the individual.
"We have negotiated in good faith with the labels all week, but they remain wedded to the idea of suspension of accounts. We remain steadfast in our belief that making threats against individual music fans is not an effective way to resolve any problems associated with file-sharing."

ZETA-JONES FED UP WITH HOLLYWOOD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:36 am

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES has hinted she wants to give up her Hollywood career - because she’s sick of the glaring spotlight cast on celebrities.
The Mask Of Zorro star, who reaches the landmark age of 40 on Friday (25Sep09), has no desire to move to Los Angeles or take roles in big-budget blockbuster hits, insisting she’s much happier splitting time between properties in New York and Bermuda with her actor husband Michael Douglas and their children.
She explains, "When you live in L.A., you can’t go anywhere without being critiqued - on your purse or the fact that you have gained weight or that you have got spots on your face.
"That’s not the life I want. Deciding to live in beautiful Bermuda was the healthiest thing Michael and I ever did. Now that I have kids that’s what my life is about." And Zeta-Jones, who is preparing to star in the Broadway musical A Little Night, is delighted about hitting 40 and starring in different projects outside of Tinseltown.
She adds, "I think it will be a huge change career-wise. I’m going into a different chapter as an actor. I’m not going to play the ingenues but I’m not going to play the mother of teenagers either."

U.S. PRESIDENT DODGES ENDORSEMENT OF JUANES’ CUBAN CONCERT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:00 am

U.S. President BARACK OBAMA has refused to endorse Colombian singer JUANES’ politically controversial concert in Havana, Cuba.
Cuban exiles took aim at the star over his Paz Sin Fronteras (Peace Without Borders) concert, which took place on Sunday (20Sep09) and featured 14 other acts from around the world.
Militants claimed the event showed support for the Fidel Castro regime and threatened to kill Juanes if he took the stage at the Jose Marti Revolution Plaza concert.
The defiant star was adamant the event had nothing to do with politics, while President Obama refused to step into the debate.
Praising Juanes as a "terrific musician" in an interview broadcast on Sunday (20Sep09) by Spanish language TV channel Univision, the politician stopped short of giving a formal endorsement of the concert.
He said, "Let me be clear. The U.S. government isn’t a concert promoter. I certainly don’t think it hurts U.S.-Cuban relations… (but) I wouldn’t overstate the degree that it helps." Other performing artists at the free International Day of Peace concert included Spanish pop acts Miguel Bose, Victor Manuel and Luis Eduardo Aute, Puerto Rican tropical star Olga Tanon and Cuban artists Amaury Perez, X Alfonso and Los Van Van.

LEWIS SHOWS OFF FIRST TATTOO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

Singer LEONA LEWIS has rebelled against her squeaky clean image by getting her first tattoo.
The well-behaved Bleeding Love hitmaker has managed to keep out of the headlines for any reckless rock and roll behaviour since winning Simon Cowell’s U.K. TV talent show The X Factor in 2006.
But now the pop star is showing off a rock and roll streak after having a tattoo inked on the inside of her left wrist in tribute to her boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa.
Keeping coy about its significance, Lewis says, "It’s incredibly private and something that we both had done. It’s Hebrew letters and I’m thrilled with it. I can’t reveal what it is. Some things need to remain private for me." The couple shares a residence in London, but Lewis is currently based in the U.S. as she works on her forthcoming album Happy.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

SIMON COWELL’s 50th birthday next month will be a day to remember for the TV mogul - billionaire retail giant SIR PHILIP GREEN is throwing a lavish party at an English stately home.
Green and his wife Tanya have spent weeks organising the event, and are rumoured to have splashed out more than $750,00 (£500,000) on the spectacular party, which will be held on 3 October (09) at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire, south England.
More than 400 guests have been invited, including Sir Elton John, Kevin Spacey, Kylie Minogue and Kate Moss.
Topshop boss Green has overseen the design of the invitations - poking fun at the America’s Got Talent judge’s vanity with a silver invitation that looks like a mirror.
A friend of Green tells Britain’s Mail on Sunday, "He has been very involved with planning the whole event, from overseeing the guest list to designing the invitations. There will be a sit-down three-course meal with vintage champagne served throughout the evening. There will also be a free bar all night. Philip has said the drink is to flow freely and no expense is to be spared." Green originally offered to fly Cowell and some friends to Las Vegas for a weekend, but a friend of Cowell insists he wanted to have all his friends and family around him.

ANKA’S WIFE STIRS CONTROVERSY WITH EQUALITY REMARKS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:54 am

Singer PAUL ANKA’s wife has ignited controversy among conservatives in her native Sweden after declaring women should expect husbands to cheat if they "neglect their needs".
Former beauty queen Anna Anka insists women’s push for equal rights has gone too far in an article for opinion website Newsmill, insisting it is the job of a wife to keep her partner sexually satisfied.
She writes, "Swedish dads are tragic with all their diaper-changing and equality… Sexually it is the woman’s responsibility to ensure that the man is satisfied, if she does not then she only has herself to blame if he is unfaithful." Members of the Christian Democrats are outraged by the socialite’s stance following her application for membership to the party.
A spokesperson for the group says, "The role of women should not be reduced to being men’s accessories… Everyone is welcome to apply for membership of the Christian Democrats, but what little I have read and seen about Anna Anka as a person hardly makes me think that she has values that would make her feel at home with us."
