VAN ZANDT AT ODDS WITH ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:24 am

Rocker STEVEN VAN ZANDT has lashed out at his fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominating committee members for honouring the wrong acts.
The E Street Band member has spoken out about the difficulty he had in getting his peers at the Cleveland, Ohio music mecca and museum to salute the Rascals and Dave Clark Five - and he fears other truly worthwhile artists will never get inducted.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "There’s dozens of early rock & roll groups that should be in (the Hall of Fame). I notice a bias toward the post-art-form rock critics’ sensibility… We’ll probably never get Paul Revere & The Raiders in.
"It’s very difficult for me to justify the Talking Heads being in the Hall of Fame before The Hollies, or Michael Jackson being in before Johnny Burnette."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BOSS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:21 am

It was 60 years ago today (23Sep) that BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN was Born In The U.S.A. and love him or loathe him, there’s no question the rocker is a living legend.
Still touring, releasing hit albums and writing hit songs from the heart, one of America’s favourite sons is still as relevant today as he was when he first wowed fans with classic albums like Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle back in the early 1970s.
Backed by his world-class E Street Band, The Boss has become one of the acts you have to see before you die.
To mark his big birthday, WENN trawled back over Springsteen’s life to dig up 10 things you probably never knew about the guy - unless you’re a die-hard fan.
Happy Birthday Bruce! - he dreamed of becoming a baseball star as a kid and almost gave up his guitar-playing dreams because his hands were too small to master the instrument.
- Springsteen has 19 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and a Best Song Oscar for penning Streets of Philadelphia, the moving theme tune to Tom Hanks’ film Philadelphia.
- he has sold more than 65 million albums in America alone, and 120 million worldwide.
- before going solo, he performed in bands like The Castiles, Child and Steel Mill. He has also performed as Dr. Zoom and The Sonic Boom.
- Springsteen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 by U2 frontman Bono. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame the same year.
- The Boss’ Rendezvous was played as the crew’s wake-up call onboard a December 1999 flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery.
- he wrote Blinded By The Light, which was a big hit for Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, and Patty Smith’s anthem Because The Night.
- he shares the same birthday as late soul man Ray Charles, Leo Tolstoy and Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres.
- he danced with a then-unknown Courteney Cox in his 1984 video for Dancing In The Dark.
- Springsteen has an odd link to Billy Joel, Hall & Oates and comedian Steve Martin - they all opened for rock ‘n’ roll band Sha Na Na at the start of their careers.

HARRELSON: ‘VEGANISM TURNED MY LIFE AROUND’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:21 am

WOODY HARRELSON turned vegan in his 20s after a stranger promised him it would cure his chronic acne - and he credits the decision with turning his life around.
The actor claims a meat and dairy diet ruined his skin and left him lethargic and sluggish.
Harrelson, 49, has been a vegan for 25 years, and now only eats raw foods.
The No Country for Old Men star tells Maxim magazine, "It’s been at least 20 years. I used to eat burgers and steak, and I would just be knocked out afterward; I had to give it up.
"The first thing was dairy. I was about 24 years old and I had tons of acne and mucus. I met some random girl on a bus who told me to quit dairy and all those symptoms would go away three days later. By God she was right."

FARROW WOWED BY CAMEROON ON MERCY TRIP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:18 am

Actress MIA FARROW has become an unofficial tourist ambassador for Cameroon after visiting the country’s Prime Minister on a recent fact finding mission.
The star has just returned from the country, where she spent time with dignitaries and refugees from Chad, and she’s now encouraging other Americans to include the country in their travel plans.
In a post on her blog, the Rosemary’s Baby star writes, "Cameroon is an oasis of peace surrounded by some violent neighbours that include Congo, Chad and Central African Republic. For this reason I have long been curious about Cameroon. How is it that they have managed to maintain peace while surrounded by war? People here offered some answers.
"Peace for Cameroon is the top priority. There are 250 ethnic groups here. Cameroonians pride themselves on their acceptance of all ethnicities." Farrow was particularly impressed with the north of the country, where she met the refugees: "It’s a beautiful part of the country… When Chadian rebels (supported by Sudan) attacked N’Djamena in an effort to topple the government, large numbers of Chadians fled into Cameroon. You can see Cameroon across the river in Ndjamena. I have often watched the hippos there. It’s easy to cross the bridge and many terrified Chadians, and ex-patriots too, did just that as rebels hacked their way through town, leaving the streets strewn with bodies.
"The countryside in Cameroon, particularly the north, is spectacular, but everywhere the land is lush and anything can grow.
"I met with the Prime Minister, the First Lady and the Ministers of Health, Education and Social Services, as well as with local Governors and authorities. Everywhere I was received most warmly and graciously. My message was the same to each. I came to Cameroon for 52,000 very good reasons. In this (relatively) middle-income country it is not acceptable that every year 52,000 children under the age of five are dying of malnutrition.
"Tourists would love Cameroon. Gorgeous place with lovely people. I hear there are elephants and gorillas in wild life parks."

SCREENWRITER STEPS IN TO DEFEND TWILIGHT LOVEBIRDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:36 pm

TWILIGHT screenwriter MELISSA ROSENBERG is begging the media to stop speculating about stars ROBERT PATTINSON and KRISTEN STEWART’s alleged off-screen romance, insisting the pair deserve some private time.
Rosenberg suggests the fact the couple is such a perfect match on screen, everyone has jumped to conclusions they must be dating - and that’s no one’s business.
She tells Eonline.com, "Their chemistry on film is so extraordinary; they were beautifully cast for those roles and their chemistry is amazing. I think people often confuse chemistry on-screen with chemistry off-screen.
"I think people should just enjoy what’s on-screen and leave their privates lives wherever they are. I don’t actually know what they are."

And, while Affleck films his new movie The Town nearby, Garner is working up a sweat with other devoted mums and dads.

She adds, "We take turns. Right now he’s directing but just wait when it’s his turn… he’s going to have to make macaroni and cheese for every potluck (group dinner)."

STORCH PARTIED HIS WAY THROUGH QUARTER OF A MILLION EVERY MONTH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:30 pm

Music producer SCOTT STORCH found himself filing for bankruptcy after splashing out $250,000 (£166,670) a month on drugs, girls and flash cars.
The former mogul admits every day was a spending spree when he was high on cocaine - he would regularly take his entire entourage on last-minute getaways revolving around sex and drugs.
Storch, who has previously confessed to wasting $30 million (£20 million) on his cocaine addiction, reveals he would stay up for days on end, strung out on illegal substances - and then head to a car dealership to make an expensive impulse buy.
He tells Details magazine, "We’d be at a club and I’d decide to take everyone to Las Vegas. Do more coke, f**k a bunch of girls. Be up for two days and decide at 11 in the morning to go buy a Rolls-Royce. I probably bought 10 cars when I was high." But he came crashing back down to reality when he realised he’d "burned through" his multi-million dollar fortune and was forced to declare himself bankrupt in May this year (09).
He adds, "I was burning through about $250,000 a month, mostly on partying. I was spending money I had no business spending." Storch is now attempting to rebuild his shattered career after sobering up following a stint in a rehabilitation facility in Florida earlier this year (09).

TUNE OUT OF STEP WITH CELEBRITY DANCING SHOWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:27 pm

Broadway legend TOMMY TUNE has taken aim at TV celebrity dance contests, insisting they’re cruel.
The revered dancer/choreographer isn’t surprised so many contestants are injured while rehearsing for dance sequences on shows like Dancing With The Stars and Strictly Come Dancing - because the untrained struggle with foxtrots and tangos.
He tells WENN, "I worry that they hurt themselves because they’re dancing beyond their training and when they get older it’s gonna show up. It’s kind of like cruelty to animals. They don’t know they’re hurting themselves.
"My father was a horse trainer and the care my father took with the horses, that’s the care they should be trained with, but they’re not and they keep getting hurt. So when I look at the contestants I think about the horses. They’re dancing beyond their capabilities and that bothers me.
"I sound like some fogey about it but I know what it takes to have a long, healthy physical life. I danced all my life and you have to really get some training before you try it. You can start simple like ballroom dancing but Dancing With The Stars is extreme; it’s almost like a fight." The U.S. show, which launched its latest season on Monday night (21Sep09), has a history of injuries to celebrity contestants - Jewel and TV presenter Nancy O’Dell were forced to pull out of the last season of the show before it even started and Steve-O and Gilles Marini battled injuries on the show.
