CAREY: ‘SONGS AREN’T ABOUT EMINEM’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

MARIAH CAREY insists her album isn’t full of tracks aimed at EMINEM, despite reports her war of words with the rapper is behind her new songs.
In a new Los Angeles radio interview, the R&B star refused to even mention her former friend - but hinted Eminem is wrong to poke fun at her and husband Nick Cannon in his latest hits.
She told DJ Ryan Seacrest, "Eight years ago, maybe I knew that person, kind of, in a very platonic way and yet they’re still using my name in songs in order to boost their career, which I don’t think is working.
"It’s just obsession… Anybody who would write a song about somebody and try to say nasty, disgusting things about them eight years later, when they’re married, I’m like, I don’t think so." And Carey is urging the media to stop reading too much into her new songs - they’re not all about Eminem: "If I write a song, called Why Are You So Upset With Me, and people are seeing that person in the song, that’s not my problem."

SWAYZE: ‘I WASN’T READY TO GO’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

Late actor PATRICK SWAYZE felt like "a dead man" the day he was handed his cancer diagnosis.
In his newly-released memoir, The Time of My Life, the Dirty Dancing star recalls the day he was told he was battling pancreatic cancer.
He writes, "When my doctors… said the words ‘pancreatic cancer,’ a single thought popped into my head: ‘I’m a dead man’.
"I was not ready to go, and I’d be damned if this disease was going to take me before I was good and ready." But he admits he was up for the battle: "Fighting cancer has been the most challenging eye-opening experience I’ve ever had, and it has sent me on an emotional journey deeper than anything I’ve ever felt before.
"Facing your own mortality is the quickest way possible to find out what you’re made of. It strips away all the bulls**t and exposes every part of you, your strength, your weaknesses, your sense of self, your soul. It also leads you to confront life’s hardest questions." Swayze lost his cancer battle on 13 September (09).

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:30 pm

KANYE WEST is still struggling with the fall-out following his stage invasion at the MTV Video Music Awards, according to tourmate LADY GAGA.
The Paparazzi hitmaker reveals the rapper "feels bad" about ruining Taylor Swift’s big moment by protesting her Best Female Video win at the beginning of the ceremony earlier this month (Sep09).
GaGa says, "He’s a good guy and everybody makes mistakes, and he feels so f**king bad. He really does." And the pop star feels it’s time for people to stop taking aim at West: "Everyone likes to focus on gossip, but he’s changed music and he’s really prolific and an incredible person, and I think it’s unfair to judge somebody on one mistake they’ve made.
"That moment really portrayed him in a way that he really isn’t. It was just a random moment." West has since publicly apologised for his actions at the VMAs.

PARIS HILTON’s boyfriend DOUG REINHARDT has launched a legal battle against his former landlord over a $24,000 (£16,000) security deposit.
Reinhardt claims he’s still waiting for the money to be returned, months after he moved out of the Los Angeles pad that was his home for a year, and has filed a lawsuit against Mark Rooke in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
He’s seeking the balance, minus $2,332 (£1,554) he has agreed to pay in repairs.
Rooke has responded to TMZ.com, explaining he’s holding onto the cash because Reinhardt "trashed the house and left it in horrible condition, way beyond just messing up the carpets." Reinhardt, a baseball player-turned reality TV star, recently reunited with Hilton, months after the pair split.

JONZE BLASTS ‘HEIR’ CLAIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

Film maker SPIKE JONZE has hit out at the longtime rumour he’s the secret heir to a multi- billion dollar shopping empire.
Since he found fame in the late 90s it has been claimed Jonze changed his name from Adam Spiegel, to escape the connection with the Spiegel catalogue company his ancestors founded.
It was even reported Jonze was the direct heir to the company, worth an estimated $3 billion.
The stories baffled the Adaptation director, because, at best, they are grossly exaggerated - but he "gave up" trying to put people right a long time ago.
Explaining his family severed ties with the company many generations ago, the 39 year old tells GQ magazine, "My great-great-grandfather (was involved in the company). But they sold it. So it’s by name only."

GILLIAM: ‘LEDGER HAD FUN PLAYING JOKER ROLE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:54 pm

Filmmaker TERRY GILLIAM has exploded the theory HEATH LEDGER was depressed following his role as The Joker - insisting the tragic star enjoyed the part.
Ledger died from a prescription drug overdose in January 2008 and received a posthumous Oscar for his performance in last year’s (08) Batman movie The Dark Knight.
Some reports speculated he had gone too far inside the head of the villainous character, leading to a lack of sleep and depression prior to his death.
But Gilliam, who was directing Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus when he died, has rubbished the theory, insisting the star enjoyed playing The Joker.
He says, "That’s all b***ocks. We spoke about The Joker, and he said it was fun beyond belief to play that character. Honestly, when people are giving out all those s**t stories about him getting so dark and inside the character… this was just utter fun for him." But the moviemaker admits Ledger was suffering insomnia - although he points out he was happy and energetic when he was working.
Gilliam adds, "I will say that he wasn’t sleeping very well. He did have insomnia. He’d arrive in the mornings and he was f**ked. He hadn’t slept and he looked like s**t.
"I remember the last day of shooting here in London. I put together two pictures taken by other people, paparazzi, one of his arrival on set - and he looked just like that, f**ked, his hair down - and the other one when he is the Pierrot costume after finishing work. He’s just beaming. It was like that during the day. He just couldn’t wait to get back to work and play again."

HASSELHOFF PLAYS DOWN DRINK DEMONS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:54 pm

DAVID HASSELHOFF has brushed off his ongoing battle with booze as a "storm in a teacup".
The Baywatch legend hit headlines in 2007 when film footage of him drunkenly trying to eat a burger on the floor of his Las Vegas hotel room leaked on the internet.
On two separate occasions this year (09), he has been hospitalised reportedly suffering from alcohol poisoning.
But the actor insists he is "fine" - and claims his drink problem has been "blown out of proportion".
He tells U.K. TV show This Morning, "It’s like, I have fun reading the paper - ‘Oh, I’m in hospital today’. No, I’m fine! It’s like that expression, a storm in a teacup. That’s what it is around here. Everybody blows it way out of proportion.
"It blew over. Yeah, I was sick. I went to hospital for two hours and I was fine. I don’t talk about it because it involves my family and my children and it involves what is very private to me.
"Funny - not one person on the street asks me about it. The only people who ever bring it up are television reporters, newspapers, and the radios."

HASSELHOFF GIRL’S CANAL BOAT INJURY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:51 pm

DAVID HASSELHOFF has told of his terror after his teenage daughter suffered an horrific hand injury during a boating trip.
The Baywatch star was travelling through Britain’s maze of ancient canals earlier this year (09) with his two daughters, Hayley and Taylor Ann, and a group of pals for new U.K. TV show Meet The Hasselhoffs.
As their craft struggled to negotiate a lock, a long piece of wood sheared off and struck 17 year old Hayley’s hand - ripping off her thumbnail.
The screaming teenager was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent surgery to repair the injury.
Hasselhoff says, "We went on a narrowboat down the Thames and we had a fantastic time until we crashed the narrowboat into a lock. Justin - Taylor Ann’s boyfriend - was driving the boat into the lock and we just came in really slow. Joe, my assistant, was trying to push away (to stop) the barge hitting the lock and the stick broke - it shattered and flew back.
"Hayley was at the bow and it came back and went bam! It hit her thumb and took off the nail. I guess that was pretty painful. We thought it was a lot worse. It was a bad scene. We spent the afternoon in hospital getting it sewn up three or four times, having surgery. But she is okay."

STREISAND RETURNED TO BEAT STAGE FRIGHT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:51 pm

BARBRA STREISAND decided to end her singing retirement in a bid to beat the crippling stage fright she’s been stricken with for 27 years.
The singer recently revealed she has been terrified of performing since she forgot her lines during a free concert in New York’s Central Park in the 1980s.
Streisand admits she "didn’t perform again until they’d invented teleprompters" but even with the assistance of technology she has struggled to maintain her composure onstage.
The star recently returned after a lengthy break to perform at a jazz club in New York on Saturday (26Sep09), 48 years after she first sang there.
And she reveals she was motivated to return by her determination to kick her fear of singing in front of others.
The 67 year old explains, "One day I was at my friend Donna Karan’s house and Liza Minnelli got up to sing, and I thought, ‘How can she do that?’ "I thought, ‘Why can’t I do that.’ It started me thinking I should go back to performing again." Streisand adds she was terrified her weekend show would be a flop, because she hadn’t tested her voice in more than 18 months: "I haven’t sung since last January, and I never vocalise, because it’s so boring. I’ve prayed a lot that my voice will still be there."

She says, "I mean, I was going to die on a few occasions. Johnny Depp gave me CPR on one. That’s as close as I ever got."

CANTRELL AND DUVALL: ‘WE COULD HAVE DIED LIKE STALEY’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

ALICE IN CHAINS rockers JERRY CANTRELL and WILLIAM DUVALL consider themselves lucky they weren’t killed by drugs like bandmate LAYNE STALEY.
Staley suffered a fatal overdose of heroin and cocaine back in 2002 after battling drug addiction for years.
Seven years on, Cantrell and DuVall want to destroy the perception of Staley as the band’s token junkie, insisting all three bandmembers battled hard drugs for years.
Cantrell tells Metalhammer.co.uk, “It wasn’t just Layne, we were all f**ked up. We weren’t like ‘Yeah, woooo, heroin!’ Yeah, it was dark, man, that was our life." And the rocker insists there was much more to their late pal than just an addict: “With Layne, it’s so easy to go ‘junkie, dead!’. He was a hell of a lot more than that and we’re lucky enough to know the rest of him too.”
