BARDOT URGES LOREN TO GIVE UP FUR
Screen siren BRIGITTE BARDOT has used the publicity surrounding her 75th birthday to urge fellow former temptress SOPHIA LOREN to quit wearing fur.
Bardot celebrated the anniversary on Monday (18Sep09) to much fanfare in her native France, where an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs opened in Paris.
But even turning a milestone age didn’t prevent the avid animal-rights activist from taking aim at her contemporary Loren, who regularly sports animal fur as part of her glamorous image.
The pair was often compared in their 1950s and 60s hey-day, after they sexed up the post-war silver screen. Loren also turned 75 earlier this month (Sep09).
Bardot has sent her birthday wishes to the Italian star - but begged her to re-consider wearing pelts.
She says, "I wish a happy birthday to Sophia Loren, my splendid twin, and I ask her to stop wearing fur - that is the best gift she could offer me."
