HINDUS WORRIED ABOUT KEANU REEVES MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:48 pm

Hindu leaders in America are concerned KEANU REEVES’ reported portrayal of the incarnation of Lord Vishnu in a new movie will be another awful Hollywood depiction of their religion, belief system and gods.
Top Hindus are still reeling from the way Mike Myers poked fun at their religion in The Love Guru, and they fear Reeves’ new film Hanuman, in which he’ll play Rama, will be another misinformed film about Hinduism.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed tells WENN, "Hindus are concerned. If the makers of this proposed movie intend to base the storyline on the epic Ramayana and make references to it or portray Hindu gods/goddesses in the movie, we would urge the makers to stay true to the story and the spirit of the timeless epic and other Hindu scriptures." Gary Oldman is also reportedly part of the cast, as is Lagaan star Aamir Khan, who is slated to play Hanuman.
Shooting on the Chuck Russell film is expected to start towards the end of this year (09) in Rajasthan, India.
Zed, who is president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, adds, "Ramayana is a highly revered scripture of Hinduism. Hollywood is welcome to make a movie about Ramayana but the final product should be the true depiction of it and not a fantasised or a re-imagined version to fit the Hollywood machine, which was likely to hurt the Hindu sentiments.
"Moreover, as Hinduism is largely misunderstood outside India, the distortion would add to the confusion. Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken lightly.
"Ramayana is an integral part of Hinduism and was held in such reverence that Hindus believe that simply reading/hearing of it (sic) showered blessings upon the reader/listener." Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit scripture, which explores various themes, including human existence and concept of dharma, among other leading religious and philosophical issues.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:48 pm

Rapper 50 CENT has sparked speculation he is set for a name change after hinting at plans to ‘kill off’ his stage persona.
The In Da Club star, real name Curtis Jackson, has been performing professionally as 50 Cent since breaking into the hip-hop industry in the late 1990s, naming himself after 1980s Brooklyn, New York robber Kelvin ‘50 Cent’ Martin.
But the hitmaker, who uses his birth name when he’s acting, has prompted rumours he’s preparing to ditch the moniker and release new records under a different name.
He writes on his Twitter.com page, "50 Cent is a person I created, soon it will be time to destroy him and become somebody else."

BECKINSALE’S BIG FREEZE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:45 pm

KATE BECKINSALE made the most of the big freeze on the Canadian set of her new film WHITEOUT, even though the temperatures literally took her breath away.
The Brit was so unprepared for the frigid conditions in Manitoba and Winnipeg she was left voiceless for a day after sucking in the icy temperatures when she first ventured outside.
She says, "There are so many possible ways to die there of being too cold - like if you’ve ever had an alcoholic drink and you breathe in a westerly direction, you’re gonna die! We all panicked.
"When we first went outside, all the men had beards full of ice, which I thought was make-up department tests - but it wasn’t; it was real.
"My hair froze to a point just from breathing on it. I thought, ‘I’m from England and I’ll be able to handle the cold,’ but I’ve never known anything like that. The first day, I wasn’t able to speak because my whole throat closed from that first breath." But Beckinsale found a great benefit to being in a place so cold: "In cold weather they have great things inside to do, so I went to museums and children’s theatre places with my daughter, who was there for the whole thing. Outside they had a frozen park which was one of the greatest things I’d ever done."

NO JACKSON TRIBUTE FOR BROWN DESPITE FAMILY BACKING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:45 pm

CHRIS BROWN has not signed up to lead the musical tribute concert to MICHAEL JACKSON in Vienna, Austria - despite the tragic icon’s brother JERMAINE backing him as the main headliner.
At a press conference in the European city on Tuesday (08Sep09), the Jackson 5 singer told reporters that disgraced Brown would take centre stage at the star-studded tribute for the late Thriller legend on 26 September (09).
He confirmed, "Michael was his idol and he (Brown) dedicated his first number one hit in the U.S. to Michael. Chris is a very, very talented artist." It was to be Brown’s first time on stage since his brutal attack on ex-girlfriend Rihanna in February (09). He was sentenced to five years probation and six months hard community labour last month (Aug09).
And although Brown obviously has the support of the superstar clan, a rep for the shamed singer insists the Kiss Kiss hitmaker’s appearance at the show has not been scheduled.
The spokesperson says, "Chris is not confirmed to perform or participate in any capacity for this show." Other artists on the bill include Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole and Sister Sledge, as well as American boyband US5.

The lawsuit also sought to block the release of two upcoming prequels based on Tolkien’s novel, The Hobbit.
The case was due to go to jury trial in October (09) prior to the settlement. Terms of the agreement remain confidential.

HASSELHOFF’S SHARK SCARE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:09 pm

Former TV lifeguard DAVID HASSELHOFF was left fearing for his life on a recent shark-spotting trip to South Africa.
The Baywatch star got up close and personal with the animals as he made a series of films entitled David Hasselhoff’s Sharkwatch for The Underwater Channel.
But the 57 year old was afraid he’d end up as lunch during one terrifying encounter.
He tells Britain’s Hello! magazine, "Suddenly, a tiger shark loomed towards me - a big girl, around 10 foot long. Although I’m six foot and no lightweight, I felt as if I appeared nothing more than a snack to her.
"She opened her huge mouth. All I could see were rows of white razor-sharp teeth. I held out the bait, hoping that would keep her happy." The trick worked and the shark retreated - but the incident left Hasselhoff shaken up.
He adds, "I admitted to (the show’s expert) Mark that I’d been more scared than I’ve ever been when the shark had opened her mouth."

COMBS LENDS HIS VIRTUAL SUPPORT TO STUDENTS AT ALMA MATER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:03 pm

Rap mogul SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS joined in a student protest at his alma mater on Friday (04Sep09) by ‘tweeting’ his support against the bureaucracy at his former Washington, D.C. school.
Combs enrolled at Howard University in the late 1980s, juggling his studies with an internship at Uptown Records in his native New York.
Around 350 new students at the school demonstrated their anger at university officials by holding a peaceful protest outside the institution’s administration building last week after experiencing delays with on-campus housing, financial aid and other problems.
Combs added his voice to the protest by rallying support for the students via his Twitter.com blog in a series of posts on Friday - even offering to show up in person to help the embattled students get their point across.
He wrote, "NO JUSTICE! NO PEACE!!! Let me know if y’all need me to come down there y’all! I got y’all BACK! Let’s go!!!" Another ‘tweet’ read: "Do what we did and take IT OVER!!!! Let’s go! And do it in a peaceful way but DO IT!! … If your (sic) at HU go to the A (administration) building now and make sure they feel you!!! And send me updates!!! Let’s go!" And it appears Combs’ involvement has helped student body officials get their messages across - university bosses agreed to set up a meeting with student representatives later on Friday to discuss their issues, while another talk has been scheduled for this week (begs07Sep09).

ZOMBIE TO GO BACK ON TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:03 pm

HALLOWEEN II director ROB ZOMBIE is taking a break from moviemaking to return to music - the rocker is set to go on tour before the release of his next film.
The follow-up to Zombie’s 2007 remake of the horror classic opened in theatres this month (Sep09) and busy Zombie has already signed on to direct a remake of The Blob, which he will begin shooting in the spring of 2010.
However, in between his film work, the rocker will return to the stage, launching a North American tour following the release of his as yet untitled fourth solo album in November (09).
And Zombie insists touring is a welcome change of pace from moviemaking.
He tells Blabbermouth.net, "Touring is awesome, because making a movie is very, like, meticulous and it’s totally… time-consuming. When you’re the director, you’re on (under pressure) seven days a week, all day long - it’s this meticulous type of process (sic).
"So, to go on tour, where all we have to do is hold it together for an hour onstage and whatever we do the rest of the time doesn’t matter - you can be a complete mental patient… Touring is the great way to break free from that." Zombie’s last solo album, Educated Horses, was released in 2006.
