JACKSON VIDEO WAS A HOAX

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:15 am

A video purporting to show late star MICHAEL JACKSON emerging alive from the back of a coroner’s van has been confirmed as a fake.
The shaky, grainy footage, which sprang up on video sharing site YouTube.com last week (beg24Aug09), showed a coroner’s vehicle pulling up inside an underground car park and a man resembling the King of Pop stepping out and into a side entrance to an unknown building.
The video hit headlines across the globe and was shown on a string of international TV networks.
But the team behind the hoax, German broadcaster RTL, has admitted it thought the film up as an experiment to show how quickly misinformation and conspiracy theories can spread online.
RTL spokesman Heike Schultz says, "We wanted to show how easily users can be manipulated on the internet with hoax videos.
"Therefore, we created this video of Michael Jackson being alive (sic), even though everybody knows by now that he is dead - and the response was breathtaking. Unfortunately, many people believed it was true, even though we tried to create the video in a way that every normal user can see right away that it is a fake."
