HENDRIX BIOPIC PLANNED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

Hollywood bosses are making movie about the life of guitar legend JIMI HENDRIX.
Studios have been alerted to the star’s story by the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival in New York, which Hendrix headlined.
According to Daily Variety, Max Borenstein is writing a screenplay, which will then have to be approved by the rocker’s estate.
It’s not the first time a Hendrix movie has been considered since the star died in 1970. Lenny Kravitz and Andre ‘3000′ Benjamin have headlined previous planned projects that failed to win approval from Experience Hendrix, which is run by the guitarist’s sister.

POLICE INVESTIGATE JAY-Z AND BEYONCE’S SNAPPER SCUFFLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

Police in Croatia have launched an investigation after a bodyguard looking after JAY-Z and BEYONCE was involved in an altercation with photographers.
The famous couple is currently on holiday in the coastal city of Dubrovnik but a romantic evening out in the town on Tuesday (18Aug09) was marred when one of their minders tussled with snappers as he attempted to shield the pair from pictures.
Footage of the incident shows the bodyguard, named only as Julius, wrestling with snappers in an alleyway as the couple leaves a restaurant. Jay-Z is heard calling after him, "Let’s go, let’s go, don’t worry about it" and "stop stop stop".
The tape then cuts to a scene as the pair and their entourage are boarding a boat. One of the snappers is seen throwing a piece of camera equipment at Julius, which he then tosses into the sea.
At a news conference held in Dubrovnik on Thursday (20Aug09), three photographers alleged Julius made threats, physically attacked them and damaged their property in an incident not seen on the short video.
Police spokesperson Marija Genero has now confirmed the local authorities are investigating the claims.

MYERS’ BASTERDS ROLE WAS A DREAM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

MIKE MYERS jumped at the chance to play a British General in QUENTIN TARANTINO’s new movie INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, because the cameo fulfilled a childhood dream.
The actor’s British parents both served in the armed forces and he spent his childhood playing soldiers and fantasising about following in their footsteps.
His role as General Ed French in the new World War II movie is only a fleeting one - but Myers was thrilled nonetheless.
He explains, "My mum was in the air force and my dad was in the British army.
"I always wanted to be the British general who explains the mission, and in this movie I get to be."

POLICE INVESTIGATE DANE’S SEX TAPE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

Los Angeles authorities are reviewing ERIC DANE and REBECCA GAYHEART’s sex video for any "criminal activity" as part of an official investigation.
Fans were stunned when footage of the husband-and-wife couple frolicking nude with former Miss Teen USA Kari Ann Peniche hit the internet on Monday (17Aug09).
In the edited clip, the seemingly intoxicated trio lounge on a bed, passing a camera around and dreaming up porn names for each other.
An anonymous source gave the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) a copy of Dane’s tape last month (Jul09), prompting a thorough investigation into the trio’s activity on film.
A statement released by the LAPD says, "On July 30, 2009, an unnamed source provided the LAPD’s Detective Support and Vice Division with a copy of a DVD. According to the source, the DVD contained images that could link celebrities engaging in illegal activity.
"The LAPD was in the process of reviewing the voluminous files contained on the DVD when the story was leaked to the media. No determination has been made as to whether or not the DVD contained any information that could be used for a criminal investigation. Some of the information contained on the DVD included archived articles and photographs of porn stars and formally convicted madams, which could readily be found over the internet.
"The LAPD will continue to review the DVD for potential evidence. Therefore, additional information about the contents of the DVD will be treated as confidential." Meanwhile, a lawyer for the Grey’s Anatomy actor has threatened to sue anyone who publishes the "private, confidential tape," adding, "from what I’ve seen, it’s a naked tape, not a sex tape."

COWELL’S SHOWS FACE UNION PROTESTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

SIMON COWELL could be forced to pay contestants to compete on his TV talent shows X FACTOR and BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT - a British performers’ rights union has launched a campaign to end "cheap exploitationâ on reality shows.
The music mogul has made millions through his string of reality shows, which also include American Idol and America’s Got Talent in the U.S.
But bosses at performersâ union Equity aren’t happy about the lucrative profits - insisting the contestants who provide the entertainment deserve to be paid for their efforts.
Union executives have tabled a motion about the issue and if the idea pulls in enough support it could lead to a court battle against TV executives.
The motion reads, "The contestants in such programmes are often compelled to enter into restrictive contracts and because of a loophole for competitions they generally do not get paid. These programmes may be very popular with the public but are based on exploitation and humiliation of vulnerable people, which cannot be acceptable.
"The public’s demand for high-quality entertainment should be met by professional drama and light entertainment which has been replaced by this cheap exploitation." Bosses at Talkback Thames, the company behind Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, have hit back insisting the shows give ordinary people the chance to transform their lives with a music career.
They say in a statement, "Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor are talent competitions. They are not employment in their own right and therefore Equity rates do not apply. Contestants chose to enter to compete for a substantial prize - a cash prize of £100,000 and a performance on the Royal Variety Show for Britain’s Got Talent and a recording contract worth £1,000,000 on The X Factor." The news comes just two months after a legal ruling in France which means production companies in the country must now pay contestants to appear. Three contestants on the French version of reality show Temptation Island won compensation after a judge decided they were entitled to overtime pay for working 24 hours a day.

JACKSON’S THIS IS IT CONTRACT LEAKS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:48 pm

The contract MICHAEL JACKSON signed for his doomed This It It comeback concerts has leaked online - with the documents confirming the tragic star had no "known medical problems" which would have jeopardised the London shows.
The Thriller hitmaker was set to take the stage at the O2 Arena for a massive 50-date residency, but passed away in June (09) just weeks before the gigs were due to kick off.
Autopsy results to determine Jackson’s cause of death are being held back while police conduct their investigations but numerous reports suggest the singer suffered a fatal cardiac arrest after taking a dose of powerful anaesthetic Propofol at his Holmby Hills mansion in California.
The contract with tour promoters AEG, obtained by RadarOnline, stated the star had no "known health conditions, injuries or ailments that would reasonably be expected to interfere with (Jackson’s) first class performance at each of the shows during the term." The documents also reveal that singer did in fact agree to play more than the original 10 concerts, but stipulated that he perform no more than "3.5 times" during a seven-day period.
The papers also dismiss rumours that Jackson was too frail to perform his full set. Many internet gossips speculated he was only contracted to appear on stage for a small portion of each gig, but the contract states he was obliged to perform for at least 80 minutes at each show.
Jackson signed the documents on behalf of his company, The Michael Jackson Company LLC and as the artist, Michael Jackson, while AEG Live CEO Brandon Phillips also signed the contract.

WINFREY CHARITY RECIPIENTS CHARGED WITH FRAUD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:48 pm

OPRAH WINFREY’s charity endeavours have come under scrutiny after four Hurricane Katrina survivors were charged with fraud for allegedly obtaining housing assistance from the U.S. government after the star’s benefit fund paid for their new homes.
Winfrey’s Oprah’s Angel Network charity set up several initiatives after the 2005 storm to help displaced residents of New Orleans, Louisiana who lost their homes in the hurricane.
The organisation teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to build and furnish houses for approximately 65 families who were forced to relocate to Houston, Texas after Katrina hit.
But now four people who were handed new homes with backing from the star’s Angel Lane Housing Development scheme have been accused of continuing to claim rental benefits from the government.
Darlene McGruder Poole, 30, of Houston, and her sister, Lashona McGruder Victor, 37, of La Place, Louisiana, are charged together with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Kiesha Murphy, 34, and Angela Payne, aka Angela McKinnies, 38, both of Houston, are each charged in separate indictments with making false statements to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and theft of government property.
U.S. District Attorney Tim Johnson says, "The response to natural disasters brings out the best and worst in people. Generous acts of charity are tarnished by those who despite the generosity of others, fraudulently make claims for government relief funds." Victor and Poole each face up to 20 years in prison and a fine if convicted, while Murphy and Payne each face a sentence of up to 15 years and a fine.

WINFREY TAKES ACTION OVER ‘FALSE’ ENDORSEMENTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:48 pm

TV mogul OPRAH WINFREY has launched a massive lawsuit against more than 50 businesses over allegations they used her to advertise their products without permission.
The talk show host has teamed up with TV expert Dr. Mehmet Oz, a regular on her famous show, to take legal action against a string of little-known firms who they allege used the pair’s images and names to endorse various beauty products and dietary supplements.
Winfrey’s companies, Harpo Inc. and OW Licensing Co., and Oz’s Zo Co firm filed papers in New York on Wednesday (19Aug09) to stop the "unauthorised and unlawful use" of their names, pictures, voices and trademarks which have "gravely injured" the duo’s reputations.
The papers state: "These defendants are willfully capitalising on plaintiffs’ valuable reputation and intellectual property rights to lure consumers into ordering their infringing products on the false premise that they have been tested or recommended by Ms. Winfrey and/or Dr. Oz when they have not." The products at the centre of the lawsuit are said to include cosmetics, such as anti-wrinkle creams, diet supplements and tooth-whitening kits.

JACKSON REALITY SHOW HEADING TO TV

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:45 pm

A reality show about MICHAEL JACKSON’s brothers is set to air on U.S. TV next month (Sep09).
Earlier this year (09) U.S. network A&E filmed Jermaine, Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Randy Jackson recording a new album for a documentary that was scheduled to be aired in 2010.
The brothers planned to recruit their superstar sibling to film a reunion performance for the one-hour pilot but they didn’t manage to persuade him to participate before his untimely death in June (09).
But producers are going forward with the show, which will air in September (09), and reportedly plan to include a reference to Michael’s death at the end of the programme.
Danny O’Donovan, who managed the Jackson brothers since they left Motown in the late 1970s, negotiated the deal with A&E bosses, who hope to air the footage as a series in half-hour or hour-long sessions.

COWELL DONATES TO BLAIR’S DOG HOME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:45 pm

SIMON COWELL has a secret sensitive side - he reportedly donates $150,000 (£100,000) annually to actress LINDA BLAIR’s dog charity.
The American Idol and Britain’s Got Talent star has made a name for himself as the nasty judge on the hit shows - but the reality is that Cowell has a soft side.
He makes an annual contribution of $150,000 to The Exorcist star Blair’s animal sanctuary in Toluca Lake, California - because he can’t have a canine pal at home.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, "Simon is a huge dog lover but because he’s always travelling he can’t have one. He thought it would be a great idea to help Linda out.
"He doesn’t like to talk about it as he sees it as a private arrangement." Cowell is a long-term animal lover - he has supported British dog charities in the past and has revealed he plans to leave a chunk of his $180 million (£120 million) fortune to a canine cause.

MARTIN CELEBRATES SONS’ BIRTHDAY WITH BEACH SNAPS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:45 pm

RICKY MARTIN celebrated his sons’ first birthday by posting a series of family photos on his website.

COWELL TO QUIT X FACTOR IN THREE YEARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

SIMON COWELL will quit his role as judge on British TV talent show THE X FACTOR in three years time.
The music mogul nearly walked out on the series in 2006, but finding talented singer Leona Lewis made him change his mind and continue with the singing contest.
But he has revealed he will only do three more years fronting The X Factor because he wants to retire to a role behind the camera.
He says, "A couple of years ago I was not sure I wanted to carry on. It’s a lot to juggle - making the shows, being on them - so I had to think twice about it. I think Leona probably changed my mind. She reminded me why we do this. Leona is the reason I decided to stay on two more years. She made it worthwhile again.
"Three years and that’s it - I will do what I’ve always done. I run a record label, I run a TV company, we’re making movies now - I love that part of my life. I probably get more satisfaction from making a show than being on a show. I’ve been lucky, but I also know not to outstay my welcome."

U2 MUTATED SPIDER-MAN FOR THE STAGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

U2 rockers THE EDGE and BONO are set to infuriate comic book fans with their new SPIDER-MAN musical - they have completely reworked the traditional superhero story in the upcoming stage show.
Frontman Bono predicts theatregoers will be stunned by Turn Off The Dark, the upcoming production he and The Edge have written music and lyrics for - because it’s completely different to the well-known Spider-Man tale which appeared in the comics and film adaptations.
They even decided to make Peter Parker, Spider-Man’s alter ego, into a "slacker" and introduce a female villain.
Bono explains, "Our Peter Parker is much moreâ¦not (Nirvana rocker) Kurt Cobain, but a kind of slacker, a more kind of shy sort of guy. (And) we’ve got a new villain, it’s a girl. It’s a very extraordinary role.
"We’ve taken it to a much more dizzy place than you’d expect. We’ve got big tunes. We’re very proud of it." And The Edge maintains U2 fans who come to see the show on Broadway after it debuts next year (10) will be more than happy with the music.
He adds, "It touches on opera, it touches on rock ‘n’ roll. There are some real character driven songs as well, very unusual song types for us." And he insists the pair wouldn’t have taken part in the production if it had been a straightforward, song-and-dance show: "It is a new challenge. The thing is we don’t really like musicals. Most musicals are really pants (awful). They’re really not very cool." "It is much more like opera than a straight musical. We’re actually not calling it a musical for that reason because we don’t want to put people off.
"We just thought, ‘Well if we’re going to do this we should do something that knocks it out of the park and hits on every level with great tunes.’"

POLO HIT WITH TAX BILL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

Actress TERI POLO is facing a lengthy battle with U.S. revenue chiefs - she owes hundreds of thousands in unpaid taxes.
The Meet the Parents star owes $433,736 (£290,000) in delinquent state and federal taxes, according to official records.
Authorities at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) filed a demand for $91,748 (£61,000) in her home state of Delaware last year (08) and another $114,840 (£76,500) on 7 August (09), citing outstanding income taxes from 2005-2007.
And officials in California are chasing her for money as well, producing a $227,144 (£151,400) lien last year (08).
The star maintains she fell behind with payments after putting her career aside to raise two children and struggling through a costly divorce in 2003.
She will begin making payments in September (09) and will recoup some of the money she owes when she earns a "couple of million" to reprise her role as Ben Stiller’s wife in the upcoming 2011 Little Fockers movie, the third in the comedy series, according to her manager Bob McGowan.
He says, "The bottom line is she does owe the money. But she does have a deal with the IRS and the state of California."

KUNIS: ‘CULKIN IS MY ROCK’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Actress MILA KUNIS has opened up about her relationship with MACAULAY CULKIN, calling the former child star her "steady rock".
Kunis has been dating the Home Alone actor since 2002 but the low-profile couple is rarely seen out together and often refuse to discuss their romance with the media.
But the 26 year old admits Culkin plays a huge role in her life because they’ve grown up together, surviving several difficult periods and the trappings of Hollywood at one another’s side.
She tells Women’s Health magazine, "I don’t know if I met him at 27 if it would have been a different relationship. We grew up together. You find a steady rock in your life and that’s all you need. We have our ups and downs, but work through them."

COSBY LEADS RALLY FOR SCHOOLS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Comedian BILL COSBY lead a demonstration in Pennsylvania on Wednesday (19Aug09) to protest against funding cuts at local schools.
The actor joined state Governor Ed Rendell and education leaders at the packed rally in Harrisburg’s Capitol Rotunda, where he spoke of the need to financially support government-funded schools.
He began his speech with the heart-felt battle cry, "No more cuts!" before telling the crowd, "Ladies and gentlemen, is it that we don’t like children? I mean, what did these people ever do to you that you want to cut? They’re moving on a course that is very, very favourable. Why would you want to take money from the success story and pull back on it so that they will start to enter prison?" The Cosby Show star argued that public education can help keep young people off the streets, insisting it costs taxpayers less than $5,000 ($3,300) a year to educate a child but $33,000 (£22,000) a year to incarcerate someone.
Government officials in Pennsylvania, Cosby’s home state, are currently debating cutting back on school funding as they review a new budget.

COPPERFIELD FUMING OVER SEXUAL ASSAULT LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

DAVID COPPERFIELD has blasted a woman suing him for sexual assault - calling her lawsuit "extortion for money".
A 22-year-old fashion model filed a federal lawsuit against Copperfield, alleging the magician sexually assaulted and threatened her when she stayed on his private island in July 2007, according to legal documents obtained by the Seattle Times.
The unidentified woman claims that after watching a film in Copperfield’s room, he "attacked and sexually assaulted her" and threatened to kill her if she resisted.
She also maintains Copperfield assaulted her twice more before she was able to leave the island and report the alleged assaults to authorities in Seattle, Washington.
But Copperfield’s lawyers have released a statement defending the star, and dismissing the model’s suit as a bid for financial gain.
It reads, "This woman, who filed the lawsuit, has a history of lying… She has lied to law enforcement before and, as a result, had innocent people arrested based on a false accusation. She is incapable of telling the truth.
"This lawsuit is extortion for money, plain and simple. Unfortunately, false claims like this only hurt the women who really have been abused, women who really need our help."
