Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:45 pm

BRAD PITT’s comments about TOM CRUISE’s World War II movie VALKYRIE appear to have been lost in translation - his publicists insist the actor didn’t take aim at his INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE co-star in a recent German interview.
Talking about his new film Inglourious Basterds in Stern magazine, Pitt reportedly told a journalist that Cruise’s Valkyrie was "a ridiculous movie".
But Pitt’s people insist their client was misquoted.
A spokesman for the star says, "Brad has never seen Valkyrie so this is not accurate."

JACKSON GIG LAWSUIT WILL GO AHEAD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:45 pm

A concert promoter’s $20 million (£13.3 million) lawsuit against MICHAEL JACKSON is to go ahead despite the star’s death.
The Thriller hitmaker’s manager signed a contract on behalf of the pop superstar to perform in a JACKSON 5 show with sister Janet Jackson and brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas next year (10).
The deal with AllGood Entertainment banned Jackson from negotiating any other gigs - and when AEG Live announced a string of comeback shows in London to start in July (09), AllGood bosses launched a $20 million (£13.3 million) lawsuit against the star.
Judge Harold Baer set a trial for October 2010, but in the wake of Jackson’s death has now said AllGood must sue Jackson’s estate.

LAWYER CALLS FOR MUSIC BOSSES TO GET TOUGH WITH VIOLENT STARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

The top lawyer who put rapper REMY MA behind bars is calling on record company executives to insert a "morality clause" in artist contracts in a bid to crack down on violence in the industry.
Lauren Raysor plans to mark the second anniversary of the shooting of her client, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, at the hands of Remy Ma by publicly proposing new rules for record labels.
Raysor, a leading New York civil rights attorney, will be joined by Nicole Bailey, the principal of The Learning Tree Multi-Cultural School, at a press conference in the Big Apple on Monday (24Aug09).
A spokesman for the attorney says, "Lauren P. Raysor is asking all record companies to insert a ‘morality clause’ in their contracts with all artists - not just rap and hip-hop artists - as a way to show them there are consequences for their actions.
"Ms. Raysor will have visuals explaining what the morality clause entails, as well as a 12-foot-long timeline chronicling violent incidents involving rap and hip-hop artists." Remy Ma, real name Reminisce Smith, is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence after she was convicted of assault, illegal weapon possession and attempted coercion in connection with charges of shooting Barnes-Joseph.

JACKSON’S NEPHEW: ‘MICHAEL COULDN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:42 pm

TITO JACKSON’s son TAJ insists his superstar uncle MICHAEL was dedicated to wowing fans at his doomed London comeback shows.
The former 3T singer took to the stand on Friday (21Aug09) to testify in the planned King of Pop memorabilia tour lawsuit, in a bid to back his grandmother Katherine’s opposition to the deal.
After the judge approved the three-date tour despite the Jackson clan’s concerns, Taj spoke openly about the Thriller singer’s joy at being back onstage - insisting he was looking forward to the concerts and planning a movie career.
He told reporters outside the courtroom, "He had his next chapter mapped out. He wanted to do this (tour) and get on to the next chapter. The last words he said to me were, ‘We’re gong to do film after this.’" And the 36 year old insists he was against plans to bury his uncle at the notorious Neverland Ranch - because the star came to "hate" the estate following his 2005 child molestation trial.
He adds, "Neverland was never an option to us. It brought so much pain to him." Jackson’s long-delayed burial will take place at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California on 3 September (09).

LOVE BATTLES DESIGNER’S DEFAMATION SUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

COURTNEY LOVE has hit back at a defamation lawsuit filed by a fashion designer - by battling to get the case thrown out of court.
Earlier this year (Mar09) designer Dawn Simorangkir filed suit against the rocker claiming Love had embarked in "an obsessive and delusional crusade to terrorize and destroy" her.
The designer stated Love used Twitter.com blog and her own website to spread lies about her, including that she sold cocaine, was a drug addict, a prostitute, a thief, and a "horrible lying bitch".
In a new motion filed at Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week (begs17Aug09), Love claims Simorangkir stole two bags of clothes from her while they stayed at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont.
In court documents, she adds Simorangkir "repeatedly" asked her to "partake in and procure cocaine" as well as confessing she once worked as a prostitute, according to New York gossip column PageSix.
And Love’s lawyer Keith Fink insists the star has every right to write about such issues on social networking sites.
He says, "Alternative mediums such as Twitter and personal web blogs enjoy the same First Amendment protection as do newspapers, television and radio.
"It is important that this cherished right not be marginalized when speech is communicated via the Internet. Ms. Cobain (Love) enjoys using Twitter and expressing her views… to her fans and those who are interested in following what she has to say."

JUDGE APPROVES JACKSON MEMORABILIA TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

A Los Angeles Judge has approved a deal to allow a King of Pop memorabilia tour to go ahead - despite initial objections from Jackson clan matriarch KATHERINE.
On Friday (21Aug09), Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff gave Michael Jackson’s estate executors, John Branca and John McClain, the green light for their proposed exhibition, which will display souvenirs in three cities around the world.
Katherine Jackson and her son Randy opposed the deal over fears about splitting proceeds with AEG Live, the concert promoters behind the singer’s ill-fated This Is It comeback shows.
Katherine Jackson’s lawyer Londell McMillan stated the Thriller’s singer’s mum fears business deals could affect the outcome of a potential wrongful death lawsuit against the late superstar’s doctor Conrad Murray.
McMillan explains, "Mrs Jackson will not approve something that could possibly be used against her if she chooses to file a future lawsuit." Earlier in the week (begs17Aug09), Judge Beckloff approved a merchandise contract with souvenir company Bravado International and Jackson’s estate - paving the way for the sale of tribute products, including Jackson trading cards and clothing.

DOCTOR RECEIVES DEATH THREATS FOR HELPING POLICE WITH JACKSON INVESTIGATION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:00 am

A British doctor MICHAEL JACKSON tried to hire as his own private physician has received death threats after agreeing to help Los Angeles police create a list of medics who helped facilitate the King of Pop’s drug use.
Dr. Susan Etok claims she turned down a small fortune to become Jackson’s medical sidekick - because she disapproved of the drugs the pop superstar was taking for aches and pains and a sleep disorder - and now she has become a police informant, naming some of the doctors the singer called on when he needed prescription pills and other medications.
Jackson reportedly died from a cardiac arrest after accidentally overdosing on a powerful anaesthetic he took to get to sleep.
Etok tells U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, "The police were most interested in the doctors I had seen around Michael." The Brit insists she’ll continue to help police with their investigations, despite death threats she has received.
She explains, "Somebody called me on my mobile and told me not to speak to the police and that if I did I’d wake up dead… The police are aware of it, the FBI are aware of it. It’s not going to stop me." Her information has helped police widen their investigation.
She adds, "I know that they’ve (police) interviewed about 35 people… most of which are doctors… And there’s also doctors abroad as well, quite a lot of them." Etok reveals the police did ask her for information about Dr. Conrad Murray, the man who took on the job as Jackson’s personal physician, but she told them she had had "no dealings" with him.
Reports suggest Los Angeles prosecutors are trying to build a manslaughter case against Dr. Murray, who was staying with Jackson the night before he passed away on 25 June (09).
Etok also spoke to police about Jackson’s former skin doctor Arnold Klein and Dr. Allan Metzger, who treated the pop star for lupus, but refused to disclose what she had told the authorities, if anything, about the two medics.

ROD STEWART SCRAPS WEEKEND SHOWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

ROD STEWART has become the latest rocker to scrap U.S. shows - a throat infection has rendered him voiceless.
The rocker was back in his adopted Los Angeles with his wife Penny Lancaster on Friday (21Aug09) seeking medical attention after scrapping a date on his One Rockin’ Night tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday night (20Aug09).
Stewart’s 22 August (09) show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a concert scheduled for Sunday (23Aug09) at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Virginia Beach have previously been scrapped, due to scheduling conflicts.
A spokesperson for the star tells WENN, "Rod Stewart has a throat infection and went to the doctor who prescribed antibiotics and four days of complete vocal rest. Ignoring the doctor’s advice, he attempted to go through his normal warm-ups on Thursday but it was impossible.
"Particularly frustrating is that he had to cancel the last show of a 16-date run." The Sailing singer underwent surgery in 2000, to remove a growth on his thyroid and admitted he feared the operation had stolen his famous rasp.
He said, "I woke in hospital and the doctor said, ‘Don’t worry, your voice will be back in six months’. Six months came up and no voice. Seven months, no voice. Eight months, no voice. I could talk but not sing. It only came back to its former glory… nine months after the operation." Spotted visiting a Beverly Hills doctor on Friday morning (21Aug09), Stewart looked "visibly sick" and "sounded awful" according to a fan who approached him and his wife on the street outside.
Stewart was forced to cancel a show in Victoria, British Columbia on 12 August (09) due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.
He joins a growing list of big-name rockers who have been forced to scrap concerts this summer (09) because of illness and accidents - Tommy Lee had to sit out of Motley Crue shows after burning his left hand and Aerosmith have been forced to cancel summer (09) dates with ZZ Top after singer Steven Tyler smashed his collarbone in a stage fall.
