CHRIS BROWN’s mother has spoken out for the first time since the shamed R&B star’s infamous attack on ex-girlfriend RIHANNA - insisting she is not ashamed of her son.
Joyce Hawkins has remained silent as the 19 year old’s legal team battled prosecutors in court in an effort to keep him out of jail for his assault on the Umbrella singer in February (09).
But Hawkins opened up on Wednesday (26Aug09) to thank fans for their continued support during the star’s "time of need" - one day after he was sentenced to five years’ probation and six months of hard community labour by a Los Angeles judge.
She writes in a statement on Brown’s website, "I just want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you for your continued support. I’m sorry I wasn’t allowed to speak to anyone as this case was on going. I can now say this has been the most painful moment in my entire life, but knowing that you were still standing by Chris’ side in his time of need made this a little easier for us. Because of all your prayers God brought him through. I just want to say God has never failed me and never will. All moms and dads please stand by your children and pray for their goodness each and everyday." Hawkins also admits she made a vow to remain proud of the singer: "I made a promise… I would never be ashamed of him no matter where I am or who I talk to. You see this whole thing isn’t about Chris, it’s about God. He wants to show all of you the goodness of him through Chris. Chris will be addressing all of his fans very soon. We love you so much and so does God." Brown and his mother reportedly sat down for an interview with U.S. talk show host Larry King on Tuesday (25Aug09), during which she broke down in tears.

AVRIL LAVIGNE has fuelled rumours she is set to split from husband DERYCK WHIBLEY after a series of solo nights out in New York.
Lavigne and Whibley married in 2006 but were targeted by split speculation just two years later (08) after a U.S. tabloid reported they were on the verge of divorce.
Whibley denied the rumours at the time, insisting he had been spending a lot of time away from his wife while he toured Asia with his band, Sum 41.
But the Complicated hitmaker has attracted speculation once again after partying in the company of male admirers in Southampton, New York last weekend (begs21Aug09), with insiders telling the New York Daily News a divorce for the Canadian stars is imminent.
A source tells the publication, "She wanted to get away from Deryck and have a weekend to herself." The allegations leave plans for Lavigne’s forthcoming album in the air - as rocker Whibley had previously announced he will collaborate with her on the disc, slated for U.S. release in November (09).

Police in Glendale, California have warned MICHAEL JACKSON fans not to head to the city on the day of his burial - because they will be kept well away from the private ceremony.
The pop superstar, who passed away in June (09), will finally be laid to rest on 3 September (09) at the Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The burial was originally scheduled for 29 August (09) on what would have been the singer’s 51st birthday, but the date was pushed back twice to allow the family more time to put together plans for the proceedings.
Police authorities in the area have announced they will be on high alert on the day of the service, to make sure no uninvited Jackson fans get near the family funeral.
Cops will organise street closures, security perimeters, and overhead helicopter surveillance - and they have told devotees not to bother coming to town to mourn the King of Pop.
Sergeant Tom Lorenz tells TMZ.com, "Don’t even try and come, because you won’t even be able to see the green of the Forest Lawn."

MADONNA’s Sticky & Sweet world tour is at the centre of safety concerns once again after stagehands in Romania were fined by building inspectors.
The Material Girl played to 70,000 fans in the country’s capital, Bucharest, on Wednesday (26Aug09), her first ever gig in the country.
But a day before the show, a construction company working on the stage set-up was fined almost $2,560 (£1,600) after inspectors discovered staff hadn’t been instructed to take proper security measures.
Concert organisers were fined more than $2,000 (£1,300) over the safety issue.
Last month (Jul09) two stagehands died while they were building the singer’s stage for her concert in Marseille, France when a crane collapsed on top of them.

OZZY OSBOURNE’s daughter KELLY has opened up about the full horror of her drug addiction which left her popping up to 50 pills a day and going weeks without washing.
The singer/TV star let her addiction to prescription pills spiral out of control after her mother Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002, and her habit worsened again when her rocker dad was involved in a near-fatal quad-bike accident in 2003.
She says, "I was trying to be strong, so I took Vicodin to hide the terrible sadness. I was waking up and emptying six Vicodin into my hand. Soon I was taking 50 pills a day. Most people would overdose on 10." After several failed stints in rehab, her famous parents sent her to UCLA Medical Institution in Los Angeles, where she was held on a psychiatric ward.
Osbourne says, "I was so frightened, it was full of crazy people. As I curled up in a ball the air was filled with ear-piercing screams. I didn’t leave my room for five days. It’s one of the scariest things I have ever done." She moved to London where she managed to resist the lure of prescription pills, but after jetting back to L.A. last October (08) to film the family’s flop TV show The Osbournes Reloaded, she found herself falling back into old habits.
The 24 year old’s addiction took over again and she eventually locked herself away at home - going weeks without washing or seeing any visitors.
She adds, "I wasn’t prepared for the speed of my downward spiral. Within a month I wasn’t showering or brushing my teeth and my only relationship was with the pizza delivery man. The fact I didn’t die is a miracle." Osbourne was readmitted to rehab in January (09), checking into a facility in Oregon, and claims to have now kicked the pills for good.
But she admits every day is a battle: "If I think about relapsing again, I want to cry. I’m realistic. For the first time, I’ve learned my biggest lesson: there’s strong chance I will relapse. But because I recognise that, I feel like I’ve got the strength to fight it."

Rockers SLIPKNOT have broken their silence following a string of rumours about JOEY JORDISON’s health - insisting the percussionist is not "dead or dying" and putting their scrapped shows down to "personal reasons." The band pulled out of a music festival appearance in Washington on 22 August (09) after the star was allegedly hospitalised with a "severe medical emergency." The group went on to scrap all of their upcoming shows in August and September (09) - sparking fresh fears for Jordison’s health.
Now bassist Paul Gray has issued a statement about the cancelled tour dates, urging fans not to panic. He refuses to reveal the nature of Jordison’s condition but has silenced rumours he is seriously ill.
He says, "Let me begin by saying we are very sorry we had to cancel this leg of the tour. As you know, touring is our life; getting in front of you guys and playing keeps this band alive. So it hurts us as much (as) you that we had to do this.
"There are personal issues in the band that need to be taken care of for us to continue touring. Let me emphasise Joey is not dead/dying. He is fine. We are not cancelling our October tour, the band is not breaking up, we are all alive. I am setting the record straight. If you don’t hear it from one of us in this band, then it is bulls**t. We are human and s**t happens and that’s how life goes, but we are making the best of it right now, as should you."

OZZY OSBOURNE’s daughter KELLY vowed to kill herself if her mother SHARON lost her battle with cancer - because she couldn’t bear to live without the family matriarch.
Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002 and underwent rigorous treatment to rid herself of the deadly disease.
But while she was undergoing treatment, her family fell apart.
Kelly reveals her rocker dad Ozzy hit the booze and her brother Jack "went off the rails" and she also suffered, threatening to kill herself if Sharon didn’t survive.
She says, "I was a mess. We all dealt with the news differently. Jack went off the rails. he hardly visited mum - he’s terrified of hospitals. He just went out and got high. My dad lost it. He drank and drank. He thought the love of his life was going to die.
"I thought I’d kill myself if mum didn’t make it. She was, and is, the centre of our universe."

EMINEM’s younger brother has managed to avoid jail after he was convicted of driving under the influence (DUI).
Nathan Mathers, who raps as Nathan Kane, appeared in a Michigan court on Wednesday (27Aug09) to face charges stemming from his arrest in April (09), when he failed a roadside sobriety test.
The 23 year old was ordered to serve 100 hours of community service - and he’ll be forced to serve 100 days in prison if he doesn’t pay a $1,000 (£650) fine by Friday (28Aug09).
Mathers will also be monitored for alcohol consumption at all times, while attending regular counselling sessions to deal with drink and drug abuse.
Mathers was pulled over in April (09) after he failed to let an ambulance pass, and police found his blood alcohol level was two times the state’s legal limit.
In July (09), Mathers pleaded guilty to his second offence of driving while visibly impaired.

WINONA RYDER’s cult hit HEATHERS is lined up for a modern makeover - the film is set to be adapted for the small screen as a series.
The 1989 movie is set to be made into a TV show 20 years after it originally became an cult classic, and the programme will feature all the original characters - including Ryder’s Veronica Sawyer, a popular girl who rebels against her clique of mean girls, all named Heather.
Bosses at Lakeshore Entertainment film company, who hold the rights to Heathers, have confirmed writers have begun working on scripts for a franchise after they originally debated remaking the movie.
Lakeshore President Gary Lucchesi says, "We had the title, and talked about doing a film remake at times. But doing it for TV seemed like a fresh and original idea." Screenwriter Mark Rizzo and Sex And The City writer Jenny Bicks are set to update the dark comedy, according to Daily Variety.

Hollywood bosses have stepped in to silence speculation about the next BATMAN movie - insisting there isn’t even a script yet for the superhero sequel.
Rumours about the planned follow-up to The Dark Knight have been plentiful ever since the blockbuster hit cinemas in 2008.
Internet gossip sites have been rife with reports about the possible addition of feline femme fatale Catwoman to the next picture in Christopher Nolan’s film franchise, with a British tabloid reporting over the weekend (22-23Aug) that Megan Fox is in negotiations to take the coveted role.
Angelina Jolie, Cher and Kate Beckinsale have also been linked to the part, while Shia LaBeouf, Johnny Depp and Eddie Murphy have also been in rumoured negotiations concerning the picture.
Movie chiefs have confirmed they do want to shoot another Batman movie, but they are adamant the project is in the very early stages and producers haven’t even discussed casting yet.
A representative for the Warner Bros. film studio tells People.com, "It’s rumour. It’s not true. There is no script. There is no project to be cast in."

Veteran actor ED ASNER has divorced his wife CINDY after nearly nine years of marriage.
Cindy filed for divorce from the Emmy Award-winning star in 2007 and, according to court documents obtained by RadarOnline, the pair’s split has now been finalised.
The Elf actor has been ordered to pay $6,000 (£3,750) a month in spousal support until either of the former couple dies.
The legal papers also state that "Cindy shall receive 30 per cent of anything Ed earns on a gross basis in excess of $300,000 per year and a maximum of $500,000 per year." Asner’s former partner has also been given their Studio City, Los Angeles home.

LIAM NEESON was so moved by well wishers in the U.S. after the death of his wife NATASHA RICHARDSON, he applied to become an American citizen.
The Northern Ireland-born actor was left devastated when his partner died following a skiing accident in Montreal, Canada in March (09).
And he was so overwhelmed by the kind condolences he received while Stateside, he decided to finally make the country his home.
He told Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, "I’ve been living here for 20 years and America’s been very very good to me. I’m still a proud Irishman, of course, but I’ve become an American citizen. I’m very, very proud of that." Neeson confirmed he is still receiving touching letters from people in America, which have been helping him and the couple’s two sons grieve the tragedy.
He added, "To be honest, we are taking each day as it comes."

BEYONCE, KANYE WEST and KERI HILSON are among the superstar acts who are set to battle it out for big prizes at Britain’s prestigious Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards next month (Sep09).
R&B superstar Beyonce and rapper West are leading the way with three nods each at the 14th annual awards, while West gets an extra nomination in a supporting role in the video of his protege Mr Hudson’s debut track Supernova.
Beyonce and West will compete in the Best International Act and Best Album categories, while Keri Hilson follows her international contemporaries with two nominations, in the best R&B/Soul and Best International Act groups.
British acts N-Dubz, rapper Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder are also up for a series of awards, including Best U.K. Act, Best Album and Best Song.
Meanwhile, it’s a big year for former contestants on British TV talent show The X Factor - last year’s (08) winner Alexandra Burke and runners-up JLS are both nominated in the Best U.K. Newcomer category.
The awards will take place in Glasgow, Scotland on 30 September (09).

Disgraced singer CHRIS BROWN isn’t taking the easy route for his first TV interview since his infamous attack on ex-girlfriend RIHANNA - he has reportedly been quizzed by tough-talking chatshow host LARRY KING.
Just a day after Brown was sentenced to five years probation and six months hard community labour by a Los Angeles judge on Tuesday (25Aug09), the Kiss Kiss star was quizzed by CNN veteran King for an explosive expose due to air in the U.S. next week (begs31Aug09), reports E! Online.
Brown reportedly visited King’s studios on Wednesday (26Aug09) for a "no-holds-barred" interview, in which he answered all questions thrown at him.
It is the first time Brown will have been questioned publicly about the shocking incident in February (09). He has kept a low-profile in the subsequent months, only releasing a video on website YouTube.com to apologise to his ex and his fans.
In June (09), the singer was found guilty of brutally attacking Rihanna after a furious row at a post-Grammy party. The recently released police report told how Brown had viciously punched, bitten and threatened to kill his then lover.
He must report to community duties within 72-hours of his sentencing on Tuesday (25Aug09) and stay away from Rihanna until his probation period is over.

Actress ANNE HECHE took aim at her ex-husband during an interview with U.S. talkshow legend DAVID LETTERMAN - branding COLEY LAFFOON a "lazy a**".
Heche and Laffoon went through a messy two year divorce that was only finalised in March (09).

QUEEN LATIFAH has dismissed reports she’ll be PAULA ABDUL’s permanent replacement on AMERICAN IDOL, but reveals she has signed on to be a guest judge on the hit TV show.
The rapper-turned-actress is considering an offer to join regulars Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for an upcoming audition or two, but she insists she has no plans to become the fourth judge when the talent show returns to Los Angeles for a new season.
She says, "I don’t want to replace Paula Abdul. I feel like she is irreplaceable." Abdul quit as a judge on the show earlier this month (Aug09). Her spot at auditions has been filled by special guests like Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige and Katy Perry, among others.

A lawyer for the 24 year old man claiming to be MICHAEL JACKSON’s lovechild insists he is not after a chunk of the late superstar’s estate.
Prince Michael Malachi Jet Jackson filed a claim in Los Angeles on Tuesday (25Aug09), insisting he’s the King of Pop’s offspring.
He submitted a birth certificate that names Michael Joseph Jackson as the father, and Zerline LaVette Dixon as his mother.
Prince Michael, who has the same name as Jackson’s son with Debbie Rowe, is currently at a "special needs college" and was brought up by his grandmother after his mum fell into drug addiction, according to his lawyer LeRue Grim.
His mother, Dixon, was allegedly a fashion designer in the 1980s who worked for a clothing line under the company name of Michael Jackson.
And Grim is convinced Jackson’s latest alleged lovechild isn’t after a share of the tragic star’s fortune - but wants "closure" on his parentage.
Grim tells RadarOnline.com, "Malachi has been told his entire life that he is Michael Jackson’s son. His primary goal is to have closure on whether or not Michael was his father, and he wants a DNA test to prove it. Malachi’s primary motivation isn’t money.
"Malachi looks exactly like Michael Jackson. I’m seeking a DNA test and I’m very concerned that it be reliable and that no one slips in DNA from a stranger. Malachi never met Michael, from what I understand Michael was very private about his personal life." According to court documents, obtained by TMZ.com, the 24 year old has only come forward after Jackson’s death because the superstar’s family pressured him not to reveal his true identity.
