GRAMMY-WINNING OPERA SINGER HOSPITALISED
Puerto Rican opera singer ANA MARIA MARTINEZ has been hospitalised after she fell into the orchestra pit while performing at a U.K. classical music festival.
The Grammy-winning soprano was playing the lead role in annual Glyndebourne Festival’s play Rusalka in Sussex, southern England when she tumbled from the stage.
The audience was asked to vacate the venue while organisers went to Martinez’s aid.
But despite the star insisting the show must go on, revellers returned to find an understudy had taken over after bosses insisted Martinez visited a local medical facility.
A spokeswoman for the event insists Martinez was sent to hospital as a "precautionary measure" and that she is "fine".
The rep adds, "Fortunately, no-one else was hurt in this incident."
