WHITNEY HOUSTON is reportedly set to seal her eagerly-awaited comeback with a string of concerts in London - filling in the dates left empty by MICHAEL JACKSON’s planned residency at the O2 arena.
The King of Pop was due to perform 50 shows at the venue, kicking off earlier this month (13Jul09) and spanning into next year (10).
His death from a cardiac arrest last month (Jun09) left a string of empty dates at the arena, with bosses at promoters AEG Live facing a race against time to fill the slots.
Houston, who next month (Aug09) releases her first album in seven years, is being touted as a potential contender to take on some of the 23 dates Jackson had scheduled for early next year.
British singer Robbie Williams is also being lined up to fill the dates left empty by the Thriller hitmaker’s death, according to London’s Evening Standard newspaper.
A source tells the publication, "Robbie’s eagerly awaited album will be out soon and he is likely to be touring Europe next year. It will be perfect from him to start with shows at the O2.
"Whitney Houston has been on the O2 arena wish-list for a while - she has the voice and hits to sell out the arena out several times over."

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO is having so much fun filming new movie INCEPTION in the U.K. he wants to buy a home in England, according to reports.
The Titanic star has turned to British film-maker Guy Ritchie for property advice after deciding to purchase a country mansion in the U.K.
DiCaprio was spotted asking Ritchie about moving abroad during a night out at the director’s London pub The Punchbowl, reports OK! magazine.
An onlooker is said to have heard the actor tell Ritchie, "I love England. I’ve got so many friends here and I’m fed up of going between hotels all the time while I’m filming." And the 34 year old, who is rumoured to have split from supermodel Bar Refaeli earlier this summer (09), showed an interest in the country’s women as well, allegedly asking the Snatch director: "Can you find me a British lady too?"

British musician NEIL MITCHELL has pleaded not guilty to assault after he was charged with attacking a woman.
Mitchell, a keyboard player in the group Wet Wet Wet, appeared at West London Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (30Jul09) accused of assaulting Olivia Warren, causing actual bodily harm.
The 44 year old entered a plea of not guilty and was remanded on bail to appear at the same court on 10 September (09).
Mitchell is banned from contacting Warren either directly or indirectly, and must not enter Brookville Road in south-west London as part of his bail conditions.
The star refused to comment as he left the court building.

KEVIN JONAS plans to marry fiancee DANIELLE DELEASA at the Bahamas hideaway where they first fell in love.

Never-before-seen paintings and drawings by Hollywood director TIM BURTON are set to be exhibited in a New York museum this autumn (09).
The Museum of Modern Art exhibit, entitled Tim Burton, will feature more than 700 works spanning his 27-year film career, including some pieces made before he found fame as the director of Batman and Edward Scissorhands.
Organisers have also set up screenings for all of Burton’s 14 feature films, in addition to his student and short films, cartoons, childhood drawings, puppets, costumes and sculptures.
The exhibit is scheduled to run November (09) until April (10).

MEL GIBSON won’t face battery charges - after police found no evidence the actor attacked a reveller at a Los Angeles nightclub.
The Lethal Weapon star and his pregnant girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva made a rare appearance at the launch of Playhouse on Wednesday (29Jul09).
The couple appeared to be enjoying themselves in the hotspot’s VIP section until a magazine reporter, posing as a fan, took pictures of them, according to Hollyscoop.com.
Gibson’s security guards were said to have confiscated the camera and deleted the photos, prompting the relentless journalist to send a male friend to get another shot.
The unidentified man filed a report against the actor, alleging Gibson flew into a rage and attacked the clubgoer before storming out, tearing the man’s shirt.
But police have determined there is no evidence of battery in the case after witnesses protested Gibson was not in close enough proximity to grab the alleged victim - because his security team had wedged him in a booth after several attempts were made to get close to the actor.
According to TMZ.com, police are not expected to interview Gibson.

JOHN MAYER is struggling to write any new songs now he’s so famous - because his fans think they know him too well.
The rocker has been thrust into the spotlight after his high profile relationships with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston.
And the star feels as if he’s fighting against writing lyrics on topics his fans may have preconceptions about - admitting he finds it hard to express himself the way he did before he became a tabloid favourite.
Taking to his Twitter.com blog to air his concerns, Mayer writes, "I find it hard to write lyrics like I used to. This is not because people know so much about me, but because of what they think they know. So I find myself trying to guess what they think they know and then trying to steer clear of it and find another way to explain myself.
"The whole thing gets very tiresome and has led me to say ‘f**k it’ and write exactly like I used to."

Members of HEATH LEDGER’s family were spotted at a film screening on Tuesday (28Jul09) - marking the first time the late actor’s relatives have visited a cinema since his death.
The star’s grieving family refused to take trips to the movies following his tragic demise from an accidental overdose in January 2008.
But Ledger’s sister Kate and father Kim broke their "film fast" earlier this week to watch upcoming movie Adam, with Ledger’s childhood friend actor Kane Manera, at a screening in New York City, reports New York gossip column Page Six.

AMY WINEHOUSE has sung for her supper - she struck a deal with her neighbour to cook a meal in return for a private gig.
The Back to Black hitmaker was hosting a barbecue at her house in Barnet, north London, but started to worry about taking control of the cooking.
When she noticed her next door neighbour grilling food in his garden, she asked him to help her out - on the condition she will play a mini gig for him.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun, "Amy was having a party at her home in Barnet. She bought loads of meat and booze and was about to get started when she began to worry about cooking it.
"She’s a good cook but struggles with the barbie. She didn’t want to burn herself or the grub. It came together in the end as her neighbour agreed to help in return for a private gig one day."

AMY WINEHOUSE’s father MITCH has blamed his daughter’s "addictive personality" for her drink and drug problems - insisting she does everything to excess.
The Back To Black hitmaker has long struggled with her addictions, but has finally quit taking illegal substances following an eight-month break in the Caribbean.
Mitch admits his daughter is still drinking heavily, but is confident she will soon be completely sober.
He says, "I think potentially she could have a drink problem as addicts tend to replace one addiction with another. But it’s something she tells me she will stop - and I believe her. She did it with drugs, so she can do it with alcohol." And the former London cab driver reveals his daughter has now replaced her drug taking with healthier addictions - shopping and exercise.
He adds, "She exercises for three hours a day and she’s become addicted to shopping - in particular splashing out on jewellery. She spent a small fortune on one ring, only to lose it.
"Any of these addictions could become a problem, but drinking is the one we are keeping an eye on."

Pals of troubled actress MISCHA BARTON are worried the star has pushed herself back into work too soon following her health problems earlier this month (Jul09) The former The O.C. star was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after reportedly suffering a meltdown and calling cops to her Hollywood home.
She was released over the weekend (25-26Jul09) after a week of treatment, and her representative insisted the 23 year old was eager to get back to work. She is due to start shooting Ashton Kutcher’s new show The Beautiful Life in New York.
But Barton’s close circle of friends fear she is taking on too much too soon - insisting the star needs more "aggressive" therapy to get back to her best, according to the New York Daily News.
An insider tells the publication, "Mischa needs more aggressive treatment over a long period of time.
"It’s only been a matter of days since she was released from the hospital, and I think she definitely wasn’t there long enough. She needs to be very cautious - she’s at a very big risk. I personally think it’s a bad idea to go back this quickly, given her past history with substance abuse." Barton, 23, is set to play Sonja Stone, a catwalk beauty addicted to pills, on the new show, which is tentatively scheduled to start filming on 31 July (09).

Police in East Germany opened a file on MICHAEL JACKSON over a concert he held near the Berlin Wall in 1988.
The late King of Pop was targeted by the Stasi - the Ministry for State Security - because they feared overzealous fans would try to get into the forbidden zone at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate to hear the gig.
In a document filed by the secret police prior to the event, it stated that "certain youngsters (in some cases named specifically) are planning a confrontation with the police".
As a result cops planned to host a "diversionary concert" to attract youngsters to a stadium further into the city, where a large screen would play the Jackson show on a two-minute delay.
They hoped the move would stop youths from getting close to the Berlin Wall, but the plan didn’t go ahead.
Instead, the Stasi set up security along the wall on the night of the concert in June (88) and bundled away anyone who tried to get nearby.

KENNY CHESNEY has denied playing a part in JESSICA SIMPSON’s recent break-up with TONY ROMO - insisting he would never romance a pal’s girlfriend.

British DJ CALVIN HARRIS has cut DIZZEE RASCAL’s protege TINCHY STRYDER off his Twitter.com friends list - because he’s fed up with his silly messages.
The Scottish dance sensation is an avid fan of the micro-blogging website, but he’s sick of people who use "text-speak" to communicate with each other.

BLOC PARTY frontman KELE OKEREKE has hinted the band’s 2008 LP INTIMACY may be its last - insisting he doesn’t know what the future holds for the Brit four-piece.
The Helicopter hitmakers released their third album last year (08), and have since toured the world and headlined several festivals.
But Okereke admits the rockers are not sure what to do next - if they do anything at all.
He tells NME.Com, "We don’t know what the future holds. It’s weird, we’re out of contract now so… we might take a year off, we might take three years off…. we might never make a record again or we might head straight back in and do a record.
"We’ll see how we feel come the end of this touring cycle."

A source tells New York gossip column Page Six that Storch is attempting to get his life back on track after leaving rehab earlier this year (09) in a bid to land a reality TV series.
The insider adds, "Scott just wants to get his life together and rebuild friendships." Storch pleaded not guilty to a motor vehicle theft charge in relation to the missing Bentley in April (09).
