Rocker BECK has posted a personal tribute to late choreographer MERCE CUNNINGHAM on his official website, calling the dancer one of his first inspirations.
Cunningham died from natural causes at his New York home on Sunday (26Jul09), and Beck has fond memories of living close to him when he first arrived in the Big Apple.
He writes, "When I moved to NYC at 18 I ended up staying on the floor of a friend of a friend’s, in an apartment across the hall from the Merce Cunningham Studios.
"I remember waking to the sound of the morning rehearsals and heard them working into the night. The atmosphere around the studio informed my impressions and experience of being in NY at that time, starting to write songs and performing for the first time."

The BLACK EYED PEAS have set a new U.S. pop chart record after scoring the longest successive number one streak on the Billboard Hot 100.
The group’s Boom Boom Pow and current chart-topper I Gotta Feeling have spent a combined 17 weeks at number one - a week more than Boyz II Men, who notched up two 16-week runs over a decade ago.
Boom Boom Pow spent 12 weeks on top and I Gotta Feeling took over five weeks ago, keeping Drake’s Best I Ever Had and Knock You Down by Keri Hilson at numbers two and three respectively on the new countdown.

Moviemaker EDWARD ZWICK has won a seat on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Directors Branch after winning an election run-off with longtime Oscars boss GIL CATES.
Director Zwick will serve his first term on the Board of Governors for the next year.
He’ll join Martha Coolidge and Curtis Hanson as the third governor representing the branch.
Zwick’s election battle with Cates made history - it was the first time in Academy history that there was a tie in the balloting.
The 2009-2010 Academy Board of Governors also features Annette Bening, Tom Hanks and Henry Winkler.

U.S. human rights leader JESSE JACKSON has won a battle to pardon African-American boxing champion JACK JOHNSON for illegally marrying a white woman in 1913.
The heavyweight was forced to emigrate to Europe after breaching the Mann Act.
Democrat Jackson led the charge for a pardon and was backed by former presidential candidate John McCain, among others.
His resolution, which was passed on Thursday (30Jul09), calls for President Barack Obama to pardon Johnson for his 1913 conviction.

MICHAEL JACKSON’s ex-wife DEBBIE ROWE and his mother KATHERINE will share the cost of a child psychologist to determine visitation terms in a deal giving the clan matriarch full custody of her three grandchildren.
The Thriller hitmaker’s kids Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, aka Blanket, have been left in the care of their grandmother Katherine since the sudden death of their father last month (Jun09).
Katherine Jackson and Rowe - the biological mother to the singer’s two eldest children - were expected face each other in court next week (03Aug09) to fight out a custody arrangement.
The 79 year old’s lawyer, L. Londell McMillan, revealed on Thursday morning (30Jul09) the pair had reached an agreement which will see Katherine become the youngsters’ legal guardian, while Rowe will receive visitation rights.
Rowe will not receive any additional financial support as part of the deal, and will be expected to split bills for a child psychologist who will determine when and how often she will have access to the children.
An official statement released by Katherine Jackson’s attorneys on Thursday says: "The timing, frequency and manner of visits shall be implemented according to the best interests of the children, as determined by a child psychologist selected jointly, and paid jointly, by Katherine Jackson and Deborah Rowe.
"Mrs. Jackson and the family are pleased this matter is resolved and was handled in a caring, thoughtful and courteous manner by the parties and their representatives.
"We were all united in our goals to do what is best for Michael’s wonderful children, and both Mrs. Jackson and Debbie Rowe were on the exact same page." Both parties are scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (03Aug09), when a judge is expected to sign off on the custody agreement.
Jackson’s will, which was filed in 2002, stipulates he wanted his mother to care for his children in the event of his death, and names singer Diana Ross as his second-choice guardian.
The youngest of the late singer’s children, Blanket, was born via an unknown surrogate.

MICHAEL JACKSON’s father JOE has confirmed the late King of Pop was the biological father of OMER BHATTI, the boy long rumoured to be his fourth child.
Speculation surrounding the relationship between Jackson and the 25-year-old dancer reached fever pitch after Bhatti was given a front row seat at the entertainer’s Los Angeles memorial service in July (09).
Bhatti is said to have requested a DNA test to determine if Jackson was his dad, amid reports the singer fathered him after a one night stand in 1984.
Joe Jackson has now stepped in to end the long-standing rumours, noting the pair’s striking similarities and insisting he’s always known about his son’s secret child.
He tells Newsone.com, "Yes I knew he had another son, yes I did. He looks like a Jackson, he acts like a Jackson, he can dance like a Jackson. This boy is a fantastic dancer as a matter of fact. ROBERT RODRIGUEZ wants to give LINDSAY LOHAN’s flagging acting career a boost - the director has offered her a role in his GRINDHOUSE spin-off movie MACHETE.
The filmmaker is preparing to turn the Danny Trejo movie, which featured as a spoof trailer in the Grindhouse double bill, into a full-length action project with an all-star line-up rumoured to include Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez and Jonah Hill.
He tells MTV.com, "I can’t say too much about it. Except that we start shooting in a couple weeks! These things come together very quickly. We’re casting right now, and the script just came out great… There are a lot of people we’re sending it to, big names - but nobody that we’ve signed yet." But Rodriguez has his sights set on Lohan for one particular part and he’s waiting to see if the Mean Girls star wants to sign on to the project.
He adds, "Lindsay’s cool. There’s actually a cool part in the movie for her - if she takes it." Lohan - who has completed just one movie, Labor Pains, in the last two years - recently confessed she lives in fear of unemployment after losing out on the leading role in director Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland to acting newcomer Mia Wasikowska.

The singer confesses he helped fund his way through prestigious university Harvard through an illegal hairdressing salon in his dorm room.
Leslie tells the New York Daily News, "I was a bit of a rebel at college. You aren’t allowed to run businesses, but I did it anyway. It was a barbershop called Shady Eights - Shady because I wasn’t supposed to and Eights because it was $8 a cut.

Rocker TOMMY LEE is bringing back his nu-metal band METHODS OF MAYHEM, nine years after they split.
The drummer formed the group with rapper TiLo back in 1999 after quitting Motley Crue.
They released an eponymous debut album the same year, but split just 12 months later.
Nine years on, Methods of Mayhem are back and have signed a new deal with Roadrunner Records.
Lee is preparing to hit the studio with guitarist Kai Marcus and DJ Aero - who were involved in the band’s original conception - to begin work on new material.
Methods of Mayhem will be a side-project for Lee - he reunited with Motley Crue in 2004 and the band is currently on their Crue Fest 2 tour.

Country singer TIM MCGRAW is defending his verbal attack on a fan he had kicked out of his California gig on Sunday night (26Jul09) - insisting the concertgoer was "abusive" to his date.
The Indian Outlaw hitmaker stopped his show in Paso Robles and refused to go back onstage until a male fan was removed from the Mid-State Fair’s Main Grandstand Arena.
McGraw failed to explain why he halted the concert, but drew applause from the crowd when he shouted into the mic, "You don’t treat a woman like that." The rocker reveals he got security involved because he feared for a female fan’s safety, reports TMZ.com.
He adds, "The girl or whoever he was with, he was being abusive to her." It’s not the first time McGraw has taken action against an unruly audience member - he kicked another fan out of his show in Washington state last year (08).

KNOCKED UP director JUDD APATOW laughed when SETH ROGEN’s looks were mocked in an episode of ENTOURAGE - because the show’s cast is made up of "goofy"-looking guys.
Rogen was left fuming after Entourage characters referred to his "oddly fascinating" ugliness, questioning whether the funnyman could ever win a date with a stunner such as actress Katherine Heigl, his love interest in Knocked Up.
But film-maker Apatow insists the jibes were made deliberately to highlight how average the actors on the hit series are.
He says, "I thought it was great on Entourage because it’s a wonderful self-referential joke. Goofy guys on Entourage debating whether or not goofy guys can get hot girls when those guys have been getting gorgeous girls for the last half a decade! "The whole subject is ridiculous. I’m in my Manhattan hotel room right now and can walk outside and, within minutes, could see 25 couples in which one person is insanely better looking than the other." And Apatow, who is married to actress Leslie Mann, insists it isn’t rare for gorgeous women to find love with funny men: "That aspect’s been in movies for years. Take Woody Allen and Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. Better yet, look at me! All I have to do is take a look at my wife in the other room! MICHAEL JACKSON’s autopsy results have been delayed yet again - they won’t be made public until next week (beg03Aug09).
Toxicology reports carried out on the late King of Pop’s body during a post-mortem on 26 June (09) were expected to be released this week (ends31Jul09), after an initial two-week hold-up.
But the Los Angeles County coroner’s office has confirmed the results are still not ready, amid reports prescription drugs were involved in the star’s death from a cardiac arrest last month (25Jun09).
The county coroner’s assistant, Ed Winter, has not given a reason for the delayed test results.

RIHANNA is in shock after her ex-boyfriend CHRIS BROWN released a public video apologising for his fight with the singer in February (09).

French President NICOLAS SARKOZY and his wife, former model CARLA BRUNI, are celebrating - they are to become grandparents.
The politician’s son Jean Sarkozy and his wife Jessica Sebaoun are expecting their first child at the end of the year (09).
