ALLEN SCRAPS FESTIVAL GIG DUE TO ILLNESS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

LILY ALLEN was forced to pull out of her performance at a Spanish music festival because she was too ill to fly to the event.
The Smile singer was due to appear at Benicassim festival at the weekend (17-19Jul09), but doctors told her she was too ill to get on a plane and perform after coming down with a bout of gastroenteritis.
A representative for Allen, who was replaced by rockers Maximo Park at the event, wrote on her MySpace.com blog: "She is very sorry to let fans down and hopes to be back to full strength as soon as possible." The star took to her Twitter.com page to later express her regret at missing the festival, writing, "Wish I was at Benicassim, got a bug and been vomiting all day. Thank you to the lady who gave me a bag to vomit in at Gatwick (airport) this morning." The singer wasn’t the only act to pull out of the four-day festival - the Kings of Leon also disappointed fans when they cancelled their slot due to bad weather on Friday (17Jul09).

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

RUSSELL CROWE treated a movie worker to a new car after hers caught fire on the way to work.
Boom mic operator Denise Yarde was heading to the set of Crowe’s Robin Hood epic in Surrey, England when her vehicle went up in flames.
When she finally arrived at work and told colleagues of her ordeal, Crowe made jokes about the situation, reportedly causing Yarde to snap: "Well I suppose it’s ok for you Russell. You’ve probably never had to worry about finding five grand (£5,000) for a car." The Gladiator star felt sorry for Yarde and later returned to the set with a wad of cash, saying, "There you go. You can buy a £10,000 car now." A source on the set tells Britain’s Sunday Mirror, "It was a lovely gesture by Russell, who is known of the set for his generosity."

PALTROW HAPPY WITH IRON MAN 2 PROMO POSTERS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:42 am

GWYNETH PALTROW has brushed off reports she was left fuming after movie bosses replaced her with SCARLETT JOHANSSON on posters for their upcoming movie IRON MAN 2.
The actress, who plays Iron Man’s assistant Pepper Potts in the film, was said to be furious after learning promotional posters feature images of Johansson, who is set to star as the Black Widow in the sequel.
Mickey Rourke and Johansson, both newcomers to the Iron Man franchise, are featured standing next to Robert Downey Jr. in the publicity shots - but Paltrow has been left out altogether.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Gwyneth was afraid she’d be upstaged by Scarlett and not being in the campaign was the final straw. She is furious she’s been left out." But a spokesperson for Paltrow has dismissed the reports, insisting the Oscar winner doesn’t mind being left out of the posters: "She was not at all upset."

MCCARTNEY WANTS LOHAN TO DROP FUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:39 am

Fashion designer STELLA MCCARTNEY is urging Hollywood wildchild LINDSAY LOHAN to stop wearing fur.
Mean Girls star Lohan has been snapped wearing animal pelts and leather on numerous occasions and last year (08) campaigners in Paris, France threw flour over her in protest at a fur coat she was sporting.
McCartney, daughter of Beatles legend Paul and his late wife Linda, is a strict vegetarian and a supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) - who have also contacted Lohan.
Britain’s Mail on Sunday newspaper reports McCartney is concerned about Lohan’s love of fur and leather goods.
A source says, "Lindsay wears a lot of Stella’s designs and she doesn’t want to be associated with a high-profile star who insists on wearing animal products." A spokeswoman for McCartney says, "She never uses fur and encourages everyone to opt for a vegetarian lifestyle."

WELLER FEARED FOR LIFE OVER FESTIVAL FIRE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:39 am

PAUL WELLER was left fearing for his life after a fire broke out at a Spanish music festival on Friday (17Jul09).
The Modfather was performing at Benicassim when a bush fire rapidly spread towards the festival site as high winds picked up.
Weller had to delay taking to the stage for thirty minutes while firefighters fought to stop the blaze reaching the thousands of fans in attendance.
Less than an hour into his performance, the star was forced to cut his set short after promoters feared the flames could engulf the main stage.
And he admits he was terrified during the commotion: "I was f***ing scared. I came on stage to big black clouds and could see the huge inferno to the left. It was spreading so quickly! About 50 minutes in, the organiser came and forced me off stage as the huge inferno was spreading so quickly and the winds were swirling!" But despite the hazardous conditions, the rocker was sad to call an abrupt end to his show - because he was enjoying the atmosphere so much: "I thought the set was one of the best I’ve done. Although I was scared, I was gutted to come off stage. The crowd were great."

DOCTOR: ‘HENDRIX MURDER IS PLAUSIBLE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:36 am

The doctor who tried to revive JIMI HENDRIX on the night he died has said it is "plausible" the rocker could have been murdered.
Hendrix was 27 when he choked to death on his own vomit in a London hotel, but the exact circumstances of the tragedy have remained a mystery.
Roadie James ‘Tappy’ Wright has come forward alleging Hendrix’s manager Michael Jeffery admitted feeding the rocker drugs and alcohol after he learned he was about to be fired by the star.
In a new tell-all book, titled Rock Roadie, Wright claims Jeffery went to Hendrix’s hotel room and "stuffed" him with illegal substances in revenge.
Now Hendrix’s doctor at the time of his death, John Bannister, has claimed that medical evidence is consistent with the allegations Wright makes in the tome.
Bannister was working at the now defunct St Mary Abbots Hospital in London when Hendrix was taken in to receive medical help.
He says Wright’s account of what happened to the star "sounded plausible because of the volume of wine. The amount of wine that was over him was just extraordinary. Not only was it saturated right through his hair and shirt but his lungs and stomach were absolutely full of wine." In the book, Wright recalls Jeffery saying, "I had to do it, Tappy. You understand, don’t you?" Jeffrey allegedly made the drunken confession in 1971 - two years before he was killed in a plane crash.
Wright also claims Jeffery had taken out a life insurance policy on Hendrix, worth $1.8 million (£1.2 million), prior to his death - with the manager as beneficiary.

TITO AND JERMAINE BLAME DOCTOR FOR MICHAEL’S DEATH

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:36 am

TITO and JERMAINE JACKSON are blaming Doctor CONRAD MURRAY for panicking and causing the death of their brother MICHAEL.
The King Of Pop’s siblings have accused the superstar’s personal medic of waiting to revive him after he suffered a cardiac arrest last month (25Jun09).
The Thriller hitmaker’s grieving brother Tito insists Murray should have saved Jackson immediately after he collapsed at his home in Los Angeles.
Tito says, "My opinion is that he panicked when my brother didn’t wake up. I think the doctor probably figured he was in trouble and he tried to revive Michael. He did have a pulse but he couldn’t bring him back.
"I don’t know what the time lapse was between the doctor finding him and when he called paramedics. But I believe if he had immediately called for help we might still have my brother here today, he would definitely still be alive. I think he (Murray) is a suspect. But suspected of exactly what? I don’t know." And Jermaine has also been left questioning the doctor’s role in the singer’s tragic death, adding, "A doctor is supposed to keep someone healthy - but Michael went from good health to death in the space of one day." Speaking about the moment he first met Murray, he recalls, "The first time I met Dr Murray was at the hospital. I didn’t feel good when I saw him because I felt that if he was a doctor, why was Michael not here? Why was Michael dead?" And Tito has also blasted the doctor for failing to carry out the correct resuscitation practice methods by laying him on a soft bed instead of a hard surface.
He says, "The CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) attempt is one of the things I noticed that was very strange. CPR is one of the first things you learn to do as a doctor, and you don’t do it on a soft bed." Murray publicly spoke out for the first time earlier this week (19Jul09), insisting he did not kill Jackson and claiming he has been used as a "scapegoat" for the tragedy.

GELDOF FALLS ASLEEP DURING TV INTERVIEW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:33 am

British socialite PEACHES GELDOF’s wildchild ways are catching up with her - she recently fell asleep halfway through a television interview.
The 20-year-old daughter of Bob Geldof has previously sparked controversy with her party lifestyle and alleged drug-taking, and she stunned a U.K. TV presenter when she started snoozing mid-questioning.
Geldof was being interviewed at the back of a taxi in New York for an upcoming celebrity television show when U.K. host Fearne Cotton asked her a question, only to catch her napping.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun, "They say there’s no rest for the wicked - but that obviously doesn’t apply to Peaches. Poor old Fearne was asking her a few questions then noticed she had stopped answering. She looked over and realised that Peaches was fast asleep.
"It was a bit embarrassing for Fearne who immediately thought her questions had bored her so much she had to get some shut-eye."

PAQUIN EYES RETURN TO UNIVERSITY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:33 am

ANNA PAQUIN is debating whether to return to university and finally finish her degree - eight years after she quit college to act.
The Piano actress turned her back on acting to enrol at New York’s prestigious Columbia University after her early acclaim as an Oscar-winning child star.
Paquin gave up on pursuing higher education when esteemed roles again came calling - and now the 26 year old admits she’s considering finishing her coursework.
She says, "It would be (good for me) if I graduated. It turned out I really liked my job so I didn’t come back after the first year. But evidently they think I’ve graduated because I was recently invited back to a class reunion for class of 2004. I was rather surprised. I don’t know how that happened… I don’t technically know what my enrolment status is."

ANGELA’S ASHES CREATOR MCCOURT DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:33 am

ANGELA’S ASHES author FRANK MCCOURT has died of cancer, aged 78.
The Irish writer, whose book was made into a hit movie, had been battling melanoma skin cancer in a New York hospice, but his condition took a turn for the worse when he contracted meningitis earlier this month (Jul09).
His brother, veteran actor Malachy McCourt, said his sibling died on Sunday (19Jul09) afternoon in Manhattan.
Speaking last week (beg13Jul09), Malachy admitted he wasn’t expecting the scribe to get through his illness, saying, "We don’t expect him to live very long. He got meningitis and that screwed up the whole thing. (Until then) he was doing okay, speaking and lecturing and appearing and signing and doing all the usual stuff." McCourt won a Pulitzer Prize for Angela’s Ashes in 1996, which he wrote after retiring from his job as an English teacher.
His other works include Teacher Man and Tis.

LACHEY PLAYS DOWN REUNION WITH EX-WIFE SIMPSON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:12 am

NICK LACHEY has brushed off rumours he and ex-wife JESSICA SIMPSON are planning to reunite after the pair recently found themselves single - insisting they haven’t spoken "in probably two years".
The ex couple, which became a pop culture phenomenon as a result of its hit reality TV show Newlyweds, divorced in 2006.
But Lachey insists it’s pure coincidence he split from his girlfriend of three years, Vanessa Minnillo, just weeks before Simpson’s American football star ex Tony Romo called off their 20-month relationship earlier this month (Jul09).
Lachey tells People.com, "I think it’s fun storytelling, but there’s very little truth to any of it. I certainly have heard about her breakup and I wish her the best, as I’ve always done. Aside from that, there really is nothing to say.
"I haven’t talked to her in probably two years. I wish her happiness. That’s where it pretty much ends."

WINSLET’S CAUTION AFTER OSCAR WIN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:09 am

KATE WINSLET’s Oscar-winning performance in THE READER has stifled the actress’ inner wild child - because she feels pressure to "look composed" as she climbs the ranks in Hollywood.
The British actress had been without an Oscar win since her first nominations for Sense and Sensibility in 1996 and Titanic in 1998, until taking home the statuette for Best Actress earlier this year (Feb09).
And the 33 year old admits she feels she’s now forced to live up to an impossible standard, and can’t be true to her free spirit.
She tells America’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine, "It’s very hard to feel like yourself because you’re not; you’re on show. In the old days I’d just wing it, but now you need to give people what they want, which is someone looking composed, fresh and put together. Our knickers will still go up our a** at the most inappropriate moment. And we’ll still want to flick them out, but you can’t, because someone is going to catch you.’"

ADAMS HARBOURED DOUBTS AFTER ROLE OPPOSITE DICAPRIO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:06 am

AMY ADAMS’ role in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN plunged her into crisis - because she was upset that co-starring with LEONARDO DiCAPRIO didn’t launch her to superstardom.
The 34 year old’s film career failed to take off after the 2002 drama, despite critical praise.
Adams reassessed her acting dreams after a series of failed projects followed her first major success as a seasoned actress.
She tells America’s Allure magazine, "There were definitely times when I was let go from pilots or going broke, and I wasn’t sure what to do. That was the year I turned 30. I was going through a crisis of confidence, a crisis of being, a crisis of identity… It was the age where I reevaluated everything - how I approached my life, and how I thought about myself. What I was willing to put up with, what I wasn’t willing to put up with."

LOHAN: ‘I ENJOY WORK MORE THAN GOING OUT’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:06 am

LINDSAY LOHAN has defended herself against her party-girl reputation - insisting she works very hard at her career.
The Mean Girls star is frequently snapped out and about on the club circuit, and has previously battled drink and drugs.
But the actress is adamant she is just like any other girl living in Los Angeles: "I do like to go out but there aren’t many girls my age who live in L.A. who don’t. But what people don’t realise is that I work very hard during the day. I am a very hard worker, there isn’t much time during the day when I’m not thinking about work. I enjoy going out but I enjoy working more." Lohan recently scored a role in a new film - The Other Side - her first big part since 2005’s Herbie Fully Loaded.
