ABDUL SOBS READING FAN SUPPORT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:51 pm

PAULA ABDUL broke down in tears after reading fans’ messages of support as part of a campaign to keep her on AMERICAN IDOL.
The star’s manager cast doubt over her return to the U.S. TV show, which she has judged since its 2002 debut, when he told the Los Angeles Times last week (19Jul09) Abdul was "hurt and angry" after not receiving a new contract, adding, "Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on Idol." Scores of fans upset by the news quickly rallied together to launch an online campaign on Twitter.com in a bid to convince TV executives at Fox Network to keep Abdul on the panel.
And the Opposites Attract singer was floored by the response, taking to her own Twitter page to express her gratitude for their overwhelming show of support.
She writes, "I’m actually moved 2 tears upon reading the enormous amount of (messages) showing me your kindness, love, & undying support.
"If it weren’t for you, this specific time and situation would feel a whole lot worse!"

FANS TURN ON BECKHAM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:48 pm

Soccer star DAVID BECKHAM had to be restrained by Los Angeles Galaxy officials after fans turned on him during ugly scenes at a game on Sunday (19Jul09).
The sportsman had already endured boos from fans last week (16Jul09) during his first match for the club after a brief loan at Italian side AC Milan.
On Sunday he played his first game in Los Angeles since his return - but it quickly turned nasty for the star, who was watched by Spice Girl wife Victoria, Tom Cruise and Kate Beckinsale.
A section of the crowd made it clear they were unhappy at rumours Beckham is planning to quit the club for good. Dozens of LA Galaxy fans booed him every time he touched the ball, while others held aloft banners reading, "Go home, fraud" and "23: Repent" - a reference to the star’s famous shirt number.
Others waved signs reading, "Hey Becks, here before you, here after you, here despite you," and, "Is evil something u are… or something u do?" One man even evaded security to taunt Beckham from the side of the pitch - and the British star then tried to leap over a barrier to confront him. Beckham had to be held back by LA Galaxy officials as the fan was removed from the ground.
Beckham was later keen to play down the incident, insisting he just wanted to shake the man’s hand.
He tells Sky News, "A few of the guys were shouting not nice things that go over the level of football chants. I walked over at the whistle and said, ‘Calm down’, and tried to call one to shake my hand and he just started swearing at me. That’s the way it is." Beckham has been idolised by LA Galaxy fans since joining the club in 2007 from Spanish side Real Madrid.

GALLAGHER: ‘BENICASSIM WAS WASTE OF TIME’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:45 pm

NOEL GALLAGHER has branded OASIS’ performance at the weekend’s (18-19Jul09) Benicassim music festival a "waste of time" because of the sound problems they endured.
The rockers were playing at the Spanish event when they lost sound, causing frontman Liam Gallagher to exit the stage in the middle of their song Wonderwall, before returning to finish the set later on.
And Noel insists the gig would have been a complete disaster if it weren’t for the enthusiastic fans cheering the band on.
Writing on his blog, Gallagher says, "Benicassim. What a f**kin’ waste of time! If it wasn’t for those bloody kids it would’ve been a disaster. I really can’t say enough about the crowd. Unbelievable behaviour. Special mention to the topless birds (girls) - what a welcome sight that was! "The problem was… wait for it… yes! The f**kin’ PA (public address system). It blew twice! And the monitor system blew twice! It’s becoming a joke. And not a very funny one." It’s the latest in a string of sound problems which have blighted Oasis’ summer gigs. Fans attending the band’s homecoming concert in Manchester, England last month (Jun09) were given refunds after a generator cut out and stopped the set halfway through. The band’s massive gig at London’s Wembley Stadium was also hit by technical difficulties.

But he still intends to show his commitment to Ivanova - and is planning to present her with a "promise" band to symbolise their relationship.
A source tells Britain’s Daily Mirror, "Ronnie won’t marry again so a promise ring is a big deal for him."

PERRY TRADEMARK BATTLE OVER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

Singer KATY PERRY has abandoned her trademark battle against the Australian fashion designer who shares her name - just one hour before the case was due in court.
Clothing maker Katie Perry, also known as Katie Howell, recently claimed the singer’s lawyers had ordered her to cease trading and withdraw her application to use their shared name on all her goods.
The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker acknowledged the feud in a post on her website, explaining she didn’t plan to take legal action over the issue but her management insisted on filing a trademark protection order in the country.
Now the pop star has decided to drop the case an hour before it was due to be heard by a judge in Canberra, Australia.
Fashion designer Katie Perry says, "I went to sleep last night worrying about this case and whether I was going to lose my business and now all that has changed.
"Physically and mentally it’s taken a huge toll. I’ve learnt a lot of lessons through this - mostly to stick to my guns. I still have to work tonight but I think I’ll find time for a glass of champagne as well."

JERMAINE JACKSON URGES CAUTION OVER MURDER BLAME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

JERMAINE JACKSON has urged sister LA TOYA to stop making accusations their superstar brother MICHAEL was murdered, insisting the truth will come out in court.
La Toya made headlines earlier this month (Jul09) after she sensationally alleged her brother was killed for his cash, and reportedly contacted the authorities to name the culprits she believed responsible for the crime.
Their father Joe Jackson also voiced his suspicions that "foul play" caused his son’s death, telling reporters, "Michael was dead before he left the house (to go to hospital). I’m suspecting foul play somewhere. He was waving to the fans at the gate. A few minutes after Michael was out there, he was dead." But older brother Jermaine remains cautious about making accusations as he struggles to come to terms with the idea that someone could have killed his beloved brother.
And Jermaine, a devout Muslim, insists the Jackson family must wait for official investigations to finish before hastily placing the blame on anyone.
He says, "I know my sister La Toya said she thought it was murder and that is how she’s taking it. That’s her emotions speaking out and my father has said things because he lost a son. I say wait to see what the toxicology report says, then go from there. If there’s foul play, investigators can track back and see what happened. If it was murder then who did it? My question is, why would anyone want to murder Michael Jackson - one of the most wonderful people who have ever walked this earth?" Earlier this week (19Jul09), a U.K. tabloid alleged cops have told the Jacksons there will be a criminal trial for second-degree murder after an autopsy showed the star died from an injected overdose of painkiller Diprivan.

JONES REFUSES TO COMMIT TO PANETTIERE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

HAYDEN PANETTIERE’s romantic future with British TV presenter STEVE JONES is looking shaky - the Welshman is refusing to settle down into a relationship.
The sexy actress, 19, began dating Jones in May (09), but they split after struggling to maintain a long distance relationship.
They sparked rumours they had rekindled their romance earlier this month (Jul09) when they were spotted getting cosy at Los Angeles eaterie Firefly, with Panettiere even hopping onto the TV hunk’s lap at one point during their night out.
But Jones is refusing to commit to the Heroes star.
He says, "I don’t want a relationship. On a basic level, I just like girls. It’s insane to believe there’s just one person out there for you. There’s, like, three billion out there.
"I like my independence and I want to have fun."

BELL NEEDS FAN HELP FOR VERONICA MARS MOVIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

KRISTEN BELL is calling on fans to voice their support if they want to see her short-lived U.S. TV series VERONICA MARS revived for the big screen.
The actress starred as the title character, a student-turned-private investigator, in the cult series for three seasons before it was dropped by CW Television in 2007.
But she’s desperate to bring Veronica Mars back to life - and has issued a plea to fans begging them to flood Warner Brothers executives with calls and emails to help the show’s creator Rob Thomas put plans into motion.
Bell writes on her Twitter.com blog, "VM movie fans - Rob (Thomas) and I took it to WB (Warner Brothers) - and they said, ‘There is no enthusiasm’ to make it. So fans have to convince WB! Rob and I are in! "I’ve told ‘em I want to so bad - I think they don’t think it will make any money so they want to be sure people will see it. Big business. Ugh.
"My guess would be the best route is anywhere Warner Brothers asks 4 (sic) feedback, you guys write, ‘We want the VM movie.’" And Bell is so desperate to do the project, she would even be happy if it skipped the cinemas and was only released on DVD.
She adds, "I’d do the film if I ended up w/ the only copy & no one saw it - I’d do dvd - but I think VM deserves some props in the theatre."

SAUDI ARABIA’S FILM FESTIVAL CANCELLED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Movie fans in Saudi Arabia were left disappointed on Saturday (18Jul09) after the country’s first ever film festival was scrapped just hours before it was due to open.
Officials in the conservative Muslim nation have long banned concerts and movies, but the film industry in the region was given a boost when the government gave the green light for the Jeddah festival.
Moviemakers had hoped the event, which was due to show 100 feature and short films over a week, would pave the way for the opening of cinemas in the country.
But the festival was scrapped late on Friday night (17Jul09) just hours before it was due to start - and the announcement came as a shock to the writers and directors hoping to showcase their work at the event.
Film-maker Mahmoud Sabbagh says, "We were hoping that things like the Jeddah film festival, that these very humble efforts would lead the change. But we got the message it is not the time." Jeddah city spokesman Ahmad al-Ghamdi claims the festival was cancelled because the event "lacked preparations".
Cinema made a brief comeback in Saudi Arabia in December (08) following a 30 year ban - comedy movie Menahi was allowed to be screened and became so popular it was shown up to eight times a day.

JACKSON FOOTAGE TO BE USED FOR DOCUMENTARY?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:45 am

MICHAEL JACKSON’s concert promoters AEG Live are negotiating with a number of Hollywood studios to make a documentary following the star’s final days, according to reports.
Bosses at the Los Angeles-based company, who were behind Jackson’s 50-date This Is It residency at London’s O2 Arena, want to use footage of the late King of Pop leading up to his death to create a feature-length film.
AEG heads are hoping to strike a deal in a bid to get back some of the $30 million (£20 million) they spent setting up the comeback concerts he was rehearsing for when he died of a cardiac arrest last month (25Jun09).
A deal could be reached as soon as the weekend (beg25Jul09), reports the Wall Street Journal.
