Veteran British actor HARRY TOWB has died at the age of 83.
The star passed away at his home in London on Friday (24Jul09) following a battle with cancer.
Towb began his career in theatre and went on to land roles in classic 1960s TV show The Avengers, sci-fi series Dr Who and films including The 39 Steps, Patton and Carry On at Your Convenience.
He most recently appeared in British soap opera EastEnders.
He is survived by his wife, actress Diana Hoddinott, children Emily, Daniel and Joshua, and three granddaughters.

Late actress FARRAH FAWCETT left the bulk of her multi-million dollar fortune to her troubled son REDMOND O’NEAL - excluding her longterm partner RYAN O’NEAL from her will, according to reports.
The Charlie’s Angles star lost her battle with anal cancer on last month (Jun09), aged 62.
Fawcett enjoyed a 15 year relationship with actor O’Neal which ended in 1997 - they reunited shortly after her cancer diagnosis in 2006.
The blonde beauty reportedly updated her will in 2007 and the document leaves the majority of her $5.5 million (£3.65 million) estate to 24-year-old Redmond, who has long battled addiction and is currently being held behind bars on drugs charges.
According to British tabloid the Mail on Sunday, Fawcett requested Redmond’s inheritance be placed in a trust fund and controlled by two executors, who will give him a monthly allowance and funds to buy his own home.
A source tells the newspaper, "Farrah appointed two trustees to make sure the money supports her son’s journey into sobriety rather than giving him the means to destroy himself. Redmond’s inheritance will be tightly controlled." The star is also reported to have left a portion of her money to Texas University.

Former world champion boxer VERNON FORREST has been killed during a robbery at a petrol station in Atlanta, Georgia.
The sports star was caught up in the heist at a service station on Saturday night (24Jul09) when a group of men robbed him at gunpoint while he was putting air into the tyres of his Jaguar sportscar.
He was then shot in the back nearly a dozen times as he chased one of the thieves.
Forrest was also armed and exchanged fire with his assailants, according to Atlanta police spokesman Keith Meadow.
The star, 38, was travelling with his girlfriend’s 11-year-old son, who was in the car at time of the attack and was able to give a description of the robbers to cops.
Forrest competed for the U.S. in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain before turning professional, winning the International Boxing Federation welterweight title in 2001 and becoming the World Boxing Council’s middleweight champion.
He finished his career with a record of 41 wins, three losses and 29 knockouts.

TWILIGHT hunk ROBERT PATTINSON would never consider showing off his musical talents at an open mic night, because he’s too shy.
The British actor is also a keen guitar and piano player and even writes his own songs, two of which appeared on the soundtrack for the vampire movie.
But he has no plans to step on stage anytime soon.

CANDY SPELLING has reignited her feud with her estranged daughter TORI SPELLING - emailing a bizarre rant about the TV star to a celebrity news website.
The mother and daughter have waged a bitter war of words ever since TV mogul Aaron Spelling died in 2006, with Candy recently going public with the fact she has yet to meet her 13-month-old granddaughter.
The relationship became even more tense after she blamed her daughter for her husband’s death, insisting that the estrangement from Tori in the latter years of the Beverly Hills 90210 creator’s life "killed my husband. He just didn’t want to live after that." And in a strange move, Candy has sent in a wordy rant to TMZ.com, which has been published on the site, taking a swipe at Tori’s dramatisation of their troubled relationship in the star’s reality TV show Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.
And Candy is furious she was invited to meet her granddaughter, Stella, on her birthday last month (Jun09) for the first time as part of a TV show plotline.
In the email, Spelling allegedly writes, "I did get an invitation just in time for the RSVP deadline. I’m sure its delivery will be on next week’s episode with some comment about my house or driveway or street or something they won’t like. I wonder if that will be spread out over one part or two. Sigh.
"A big party wasn’t how I envisioned meeting my granddaughter for the first time; but, hey, this is Hollywood, and my grandchildren have become reality show props, too. At the time I emailed ‘yes,’ I didn’t realise I was being set up for a two-parter (episode), even though it was clear I was being invited to be part of a segment for my daughter’s reality show.
"Spoiler alert. Don’t read this if you plan to sit through an hour of people looking at their watches and saying ’she’s late.’ I decided my first meeting with my granddaughter should be on home video, not primetime cable; so I emailed that I would not be attending." And Candy has urged her daughter not to live her life - and her family problems - through TV, insisting she will "regret" publicising their estrangement in the future.
She adds, "For all the reality show personalities, please remember that real life doesn’t get edited to make things better or worse or get better ratings. You’re responsible for what you do. Life isn’t just a show. And your families can’t just be props. Make your own season finale without creating conflicts you will regret later."

SIR ELTON JOHN has been forced to axe another gig as his tour partner BILLY JOEL is still battling flu-like symptoms.
The two stars are currently on the U.S. leg of their world trek together, the Face to Face tour, and were due to play a sold-out gig in Buffalo, New York on Friday (24Jul09) but doctors ordered Joel to rest after he showed signs of an influenza bout.
Joel was still bed-ridden on Saturday (25Jul09), forcing the cancellation of the pair’s Monday (27Jul09) night slot at the Times Union Center in New York over fears the Piano Man would not recover in time.
Reps for the pair insist the concerts will be rescheduled.

BOY GEORGE has patched up his turbulent friendship with SIR ELTON JOHN after the ROCKET MAN star sent him a music player while he was locked up in jail.
The former Culture Club frontman was sentenced to 15 months for assault and false imprisonment over his attack on a male escort in 2007.
He was released on parole in May (09), and insists he used his stint behind bars productively - by making up with old pals.
And he was especially touched when superstar John wrote to him and sent him a gift, as he had fallen out with the singer after he called him a "humourless grand old dame" to the press.

JENNIFER LOPEZ has denied she is set to take over from PAULA ABDUL as a judge on AMERICAN IDOL - branding herself "just a fan" of the hit U.S. talent show.
Rumours recently began circulating that the Love Don’t Cost a Thing hitmaker was being lined up to step into Abdul’s shoes as the lead female panelist after reports suggested the former singer/choreographer had not renewed her contract a following a row over pay.
Speculation heightened after Lopez was spotted dining out with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, who himself has just negotiated a huge pay rise for the new series.
Lopez was reportedly set to be announced as the new judge later this year (09) in time for the eighth season of the popular singing contest.
But the star’s representative has refuted the reports, dismissing them as "completely false".
The spokesperson says, "The rumour of Jennifer Lopez throwing herself in the ring to take over for Paula Abdul is completely false. Jennifer loves Idol but just as a fan.
"She just wrapped the feature film The Back-Up Plan, due out January 2010, and will release an album then as well."

Rocker PETE DOHERTY’s wild party antics have landed him in trouble again - he has been barred from boarding an aeroplane after staff labelled him too drunk to travel.
The Babyshambles singer and his band allegedly enjoyed too many alcoholic drinks before trying to board a flight from Valencia, Spain to Gatwick, England so airline workers refused to let them on.
Doherty was forced to hire a private jet - setting him back $15,000 (£10,000), according to Britain’s News of the World tabloid.
A representative for the EasyJet airline reveals this is not the first time they’ve had problems with Doherty.
The spokesperson says, "Mr Doherty’s reputation preceded him following a previous incident with EasyJet when he was removed from a flight to Barcelona - and following last month’s incident when he was arrested after a BA (British Airways) flight to Geneva." The musician was previously arrested after disembarking a British Airways flight from London to Geneva, Switzerland last month (Jun09).
Flight staff alleged they found the rocker slumped in an aircraft bathroom and subsequently discovered a hypodermic needle onboard. He was charged with an unspecified offence and later released with a fine.
Doherty is also currently facing charges of driving under the influence and drug possession stemming from his arrest in Gloucester, England in June (09).

AMERICAN IDOL winner KRIS ALLEN is pressing on with his tour commitments for the TV talent show and dedicating his performances to his beloved grandmother, who died last week (ends17Jul09).
The singer, who was crowned the show champ earlier this year (09), pulled out of a number of scheduled appearances as he mourned the loss of his gran Linda Jean Wood.
But he is forcing himself to continue with the American Idol tour in memory of his loved one.
A source tells the National Enquirer, "She was Kris’ biggest fan, and he loved her dearly. She had been sick for some time… but she was forever upbeat and saw every one of Kris’ performances on Idol.
"When Jeannie died, Kris called his mother Kim and said he’d leave the Idols tour and come home right away. But his mum said that it was Jeannie’s wish that he continue with the tour."

LEANN RIMES’ husband DEAN SHEREMET has confirmed the couple is going through a rough patch - after taking to the internet to thank fans for their support through a "very difficult time".
The Blue singer/actress’ marriage has been under intense scrutiny for months after she was caught on camera kissing her Northern Lights co-star Eddie Cibrian during an intimate night out in Los Angeles earlier this year (09).

British singer-turned-reality star KERRY KATONA’s husband MARK CROFT has reportedly started divorce proceedings - just months after the pair reconciled.
The couple has faced a rocky few years, with internet gossips blaming the former cab driver for Katona’s bankruptcy last year (08).
Katona - who once sang in now defunct band Atomic Kitten and appears in her own U.K. MTV reality show - started legal proceedings to put an end to their union in March (09).
The star quit the action after they worked out their problems.

Controversial Malaysian director YASMIN AHMAD has died. She was 51.
The moviemaker passed away on Saturday (25Jul09) after suffering a brain hemorrhage, according to local media reports.
Ahmad roused outrage in her mostly Muslim homeland after documenting inter-racial romances in her pictures.
She was honoured at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2007, picking up two awards for her movie Mukshin, which portrayed love in pre-teens.
Ahmad also won a string of prizes for 2004 romantic comedy Sepet, which told the tale of a teenage Malay girl who falls in love with a Chinese boy.
Mukshin sparked criticism from Islamic leaders in 2007, who blasted the film for encouraging women to behave like men, branding her work "immoral".

Actress ANGIE EVERHART has welcomed her first child - and is thrilled with her "handsome" son.
The 39-year-old beauty gave birth to little Kayden Bobby Everhart on Friday (24Jul09) via Caesarean section.

Bosses at a U.S. company have unveiled a bizarre new plan to produce 10 sparkling diamonds from locks of MICHAEL JACKSON’s hair.
Executives at LifeGem have obtained a sample of the late King Of Pop’s tresses from a memorabilia collector, who owned some of the hair Jackson burned off his scalp while filming a 1984 Pepsi commercial.
Now LifeGem founder Dean VandenBiesen plans to create a limited edition set of 10 diamonds using a laboratory process that takes carbon from hair and turns it into high-quality gems.
In 2007, VandenBiesen created three diamonds from locks of German composer Beethoven’s hair, selling one of the stones for approximately $200,000 (£134,000).

The executors of MICHAEL JACKSON’s estate have found its assets exceed $500 million (£334 million) - pulling the late singer out of the estimated $400 million (£267 million) he died owing.
Temporary administrators John Branca and John McClain have filed court documents indicating Jackson’s estate will be solvent, or sufficient to pay all debts, because his "assets consist of real and personal property exceeding $500 million".
The filings, released into public domain on Friday (24Jul09), also state that Branca and McClain have recovered over $5.5 million (£3.7 million) in cash from one of the star’s former business advisers.
The executors are also finalising various deals they expect will generate â��tens of millions of dollars of revenues", providing Jackson’s three young children with substantial amounts after all debts are paid off.
Those business negotiations will be submitted to court officials for approval within the coming week (begs27Jul09), according to the papers.
Information about the estate was included in two motions form Branca and McClain asking the court to approve a petition filed by Jackson’s mother Katherine requesting a monthly allowance.
Katherine, 79, filed an appeal on Thursday (23Jul09) seeking access to her son’s finances so she can provide for her grandchildren, Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, aka Blanket.
A judge will consider granting Katherine’s request at a hearing on 3 August (09).

MISCHA BARTON is "doing great" and preparing to begin filming on THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE, according to the show’s creator ASHTON KUTCHER.
The actress was hospitalised for psychiatric observation in California last week (16Jul09), after suffering a meltdown and calling cops to her Los Angeles home the night before.
Barton’s place on Kutcher’s new series was thrown into jeopardy following the incident, with internet gossips alleging TV bosses were making plans to continue production without her.
But Kutcher has denied reports Barton will be replaced, announcing she will soon fly to New York to join the cast of the show, about a group of models.
Speaking at a technology conference in Pasadena, California on Friday (24Jul09), Kutcher said, "I can tell you right now Mischa Barton is doing great." The 23 year old is set to play Sonja Stone, a catwalk beauty addicted to pills, on The Beautiful Life, which is scheduled to start filming on 31 July (09).
