SORUM: ‘AXL SHOULD USE ANOTHER NAME’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:00 am

Rocker MATT SORUM has blasted AXL ROSE for touring under the name GUNS N’ ROSES, insisting he should follow STING and PAUL MCCARTNEY’s leads and rename the group or go solo.
A former Guns N’ Roses drummer, Sorum feels the rock group’s name should only feature on tour tickets and albums when Rose is surrounded by his original members, including his Velvet Revolver bandmates Duff McKagan and Slash.
He tells ThePulseofRadio.com, "I’m not saying I’m an original member, but I understand the core of the band is Slash and Duff and probably Izzy (Stradlin).
"This goes back to a Paul McCartney thing. Does he call himself The Beatles? I’m not saying we were as big as The Beatles, but… Does Sting call himself The Police? No. Does Jimmy Page and Robert Plant go out there calling themselves Led Zeppelin? Nope."

  • TOWNSHEND BLASTS MYERS’ POWERS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:57 am

THE WHO star PETE TOWNSHEND has taken aim at MIKE MYERS’ AUSTIN POWERS creation for "trivialising" what was going on in London during the swinging 1960s.
Townshend fears a generation of film fans got the wrong message about the pivotal moment in British culture - and it’s all thanks to the funnyman’s hirsute, frozen spy who brings free love and bad teeth to modern times.
The rocker hopes the British musical debut of The Who’s Quadrophenia will help today’s youth understand exactly what was going on in the Swinging Sixties.
He tells TimesOnline.co.uk, "Austin Powers has done a lot of damage to the image of swinging London, parodying what had already been parodied by lazy American newsreels over the years.
"In a sense, my mission is to bring back some of the greyness, the bleakness of those years, and demonstrate to the cast that what happened simply had to happen, otherwise we would all have gone nuts… it was a vital rebellion.
"Everything was turned on its head. Girls looked like boys, boys wore eyeliner and danced alone or in pairs like girls. Today we are facing something of the same kind of upheaval." And the rocker feels the world is on the verge of another mod revolution - just like the one documented in Quadrophenia.
He adds, "In the financial mess we are in how will young people express their need to be different? Roger Daltrey often says that Mod wouldn’t have happened if well-paid work hadn’t been available."

  • DMX FORCED TO PAY DAMAGES FOR 2004 ASSAULT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 10:57 am

Incarcerated rapper DMX has been ordered to pay $240,000 (£165,500) in damages to a man who sued the star after a 2004 assault.
DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was arrested in June 2004 by Port Authority cops in New York after he allegedly used a fake police siren to pull over Sergei Priporin’s car and confront him in front of his family at JFK Airport.
The angry rapper claimed Priporin had made him late for a flight.
Police searched Simmons’ person and vehicle and found various illegal substances, including crack cocaine, and a police baton.
He was charged with drug possession, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, menacing, driving under the influence while claiming to be a federal agent, and attempting to carjack a vehicle.
Simmons escaped punishment and was given a conditional discharge for that incident - but Priporin’s family filed a $4 million (£2.76 million) lawsuit against him.
A U.S. judge ruled in the Priporins’ favour on Thursday (30Apr09) and awarded them $200,000 (£137,930) in punitive damages and a further $40,000 (£27,585) in compensatory damages.
But DMX’s lawyer, Richard Corde, insists his client is not sorry for his actions.
Corde tells TMZ.com, "Mr. Simmons still feels justified in pulling them over when they didn’t get out of his way… He’s not apologising for that. The gentleman driving should have gotten out of his way." The hip-hop star is currently behind bars in Arizona serving time after being found guilty of various charges of drug possession, animal cruelty and theft.
