U.S. CONGRESSMAN FUMING ABOUT COHEN’S BRUNO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

British comedian SACHA BARON COHEN has incurred the wrath of a U.S. politician - after tricking the congressman into appearing in his new movie BRUNO.
Ron Paul, who was Republican candidate for the 2008 presidential election, was left fuming last summer (08) when the funnyman conned him into a seduction scene with his gay fashion journalist character, Bruno.
Texas congressman Paul admits the star lured him into an interview by claiming to be be a financial reporter, and then disrobed in front of the startled politician.
He only went public with his outrage this week (beg13Apr09) after seeing himself featured in a trailer for the upcoming film.
Paul tells America’s ABC radio, "We were in a studio situation, I wasn’t invited into a hotel room. There were lots of lights and blaze and commotion and they said we better get in this back room which had been fixed up as a bedroom.
"So there was some dishonesty getting me into the interview, I was expecting an interview on Austrian economics. That didn’t turn out that way.
"By the time he (Cohen) started pulling his pants down, I was like ‘What on earth is going on here?’ and I ran out of the room. This interview had ended. I don’t like the way he lies his way into interviews. That to me is fraud." It is not the first time Cohen has come under fire for his movie antics. The actor and movie bosses were threatened with legal action from disgruntled members of the public who alleged they were manipulated into participating in 2006 hit Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
Bruno is set for release this summer (09).

PIRATE BAY FOUNDERS JAILED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

The four men behind music downloading site THE PIRATE BAY have been jailed after they were found guilty of breaching copyright laws.
Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Carl Lundstrom and Peter Sunde were convicted at a court in Sweden on Friday (17Apr09), and sentenced to a year in prison.
They were also ordered to pay $3.48 million (£2.4 million) in damages to a number of entertainment companies, including Warner Bros, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI, and Columbia Pictures, whose executives accused the file-sharing site of facilitating illegal downloads.
The four men denied the charges throughout the trial, claiming that because they did not actually host any files, they were not doing anything wrong.
John Kennedy, president of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), says, "These guys weren’t making a principled stand, they were out to line their own pockets. There was nothing meritorious about their behaviour, it was reprehensible.
"The Pirate Bay did immense harm and the damages awarded doesn’t even get close to compensation, but we never claimed it did.
"There has been a perception that piracy is OK and that the music industry should just have to accept it. This verdict will change that." The four plan to appeal against their conviction.

He writes, "Attention those going 2 (sic) Boca Raton show. The city has currently banned the Believers Never Die tour from coming. Working on a new venue." And although Wentz can’t explain why the Dance, Dance hitmakers are not allowed to perform, he promises they are doing their best to make sure the show goes ahead.
He adds, "We will make it there come hell or high water (no info on why we have been banned). There will be a show somehow."

BILLY RAY CYRUS SLAMS FOXX OVER MILEY COMMENTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

BILLY RAY CYRUS is fuming after JAMIE FOXX urged his superstar daughter MILEY to "make a sex tape… do some heroin… and become a lesbian", dubbing the Oscar winner’s comments "hurtful".
Foxx has apologised for the remarks made on his Foxxhole radio show last weekend (11-12Apr09), insisting he made the joke as a comedian.
He said, "There was a situation with Miley Cyrus, and I just want to say, I apologise for what I said. I didn’t mean it maliciously. You know I’m a comedian. You know my heart. Miley, I apologise, so I’ll call you. I got a daughter too, so I completely understand." But Cyrus Senior isn’t taking the comments about 16 year old Miley lightly and is disgusted by the Ray actor’s behaviour.
The country star complains, "It was hurtful. There wasn’t nothing (sic) funny about it. And, quite frankly, I think if I said those things about his daughter, he might not find it so comedic."

PERRY STILL EMBARRASSED BY SHYAMALAN MIX-UP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

Actor MATTHEW PERRY was once left red-faced after spending a whole evening talking to director M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN - before realising the man was a look-a-like.
The former Friends star first met the filmmaker at a Hollywood awards show during promotion for 1999 movie The Sixth Sense, and he was delighted when he encountered the man he was convinced was Shyamalan on another night out years later.
Perry struck up a friendship with the Shyamalan doppelganger that night and started dreaming about the prospect of working with the director - before he realised his mistake and bailed on his new pal.
He explains, "I was at the People’s Choice Awards a while back and that night I met all the Sixth Sense people; M. Night Shyamalan, Haley Joel Osment. So I met them, I spoke with them for a few minutes.
"Then a few years later I was out at this place in Hollywood and M. Night Shyamalan walked up and said hello. I was like, ‘Oh my God, come sit down, please join us.’ We sat there for a few minutes and everybody sort of filtered out and it was just me and M. Night Shyamalan. Pretty great, great guy, very talented.
"We talked for a little while, and then I started to realise, you know, he likes me. Laughing at everything I say, really enjoying me. We’re not really talking about showbusiness, just sort of bonding. At one point, about an hour into it, he says, ‘You know, I know this other place, it’s opening night’, and so we go to the carpool, he gets his car and I get my car and I follow him all the way across town. On the way there, I started to think, ‘Ok, this guy really likes me.’ Like in the Hollywood way where I’m going to be the lead in his next movie. I’m like, he’s going to make a movie about aliens who come down and there’s a trick ending, and it’s gonna be me! "We go to the next place, we’re hanging out. …Another hour passes, he goes to the bathroom, he comes back, and then… I realise it’s not M. Night Shyamalan. It’s just an Indian guy who looks a lot like M. Night Shyamalan! I hightailed it out of there. I felt dirty." But Perry is still embarrassed by his case of mistaken identity and is reminded of it every time he runs into the unnamed man: "The problem is, I see this guy out, now, and we look at each other like jilted lovers."

TERMINATOR SALVATION PRODUCERS SETTLE $160 MILLION LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

The three main producers behind the eagerly anticipated TERMINATOR SALVATION movie have settled a $160 million (£107 million) lawsuit over allegations of fraud and breach of contract.
Moritz Borman took legal action against his fellow moviemakers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek in March (09), claiming he helped the pair acquire the rights to the Terminator franchise for their firm Halcyon Co. in 2007.
The deal gave Anderson and Kubicek full rights over the production of Terminator Salvation and any future sequels, plus merchandise and licensing.
Borman alleged financial backing for the movie was secured through investment fund Pacificor LLC in exchange for approval rights for the movie, involvement in all creative decisions, and a $5 million (£3.35 million) producing fee.
But Borman was forced to file suit against the duo when it allegedly failed to honour its initial agreement, "hijacking" the production in July 2008 and refusing to pay him the $2.5 million (£1.67 million) fee he was due.
However, in a statement released on Thursday (16Apr09), the two parties revealed they have now resolved their differences and would concentrate on giving fans "the next amazing installment in this enduring series of films". No further details had been released as WENN went to press.
Terminator Salvation is the fourth movie in the action franchise, which originally starred actor-turned-California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The new release, featuring Christian Bale, is set to hit cinemas in May (09).

OVERZEALOUS BANKS FAN GOES TO TRIAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Supermodel-turned-TV personality TYRA BANKS will come face-to-face with a man accused of stalking and harassing the star when she takes the stand in his trial later this month (Apr09).
Georgia native Brady Green, 38, allegedly began a months-long bid to meet and seduce Banks by sending her unwanted flowers, packages and notes and repeatedly calling and visiting the New York studios where she films her daily programme, The Tyra Banks Show.
According to court documents, Green also threatened to harm Banks’ assistant when she refused to give him the star’s address during a phone call to her offices.
He is said to have told the unnamed colleague, "You’re f**king lying, I’m going to find you and slit your throat." Green was arrested in March 2008 after he was caught at a fast food restaurant around the corner from the runway beauty’s Manhattan studios.
According to a police report, Green told the arresting officers, "I know her. She knows me. We’re good friends. We had a thing together. I sent her flowers. I sent her cards. Should I plead no contest? I’ve got satellites watching me and recording us." He has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanour counts of stalking, criminal trespass and harassment and has turned down offers of a plea deal from prosecutors to keep him out of jail.
During a pre-trial hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court on Thursday (16Apr09), Judge James Burke ruled prosecutors could use most of the statements the overzealous fan made to police as trial evidence.
The trial began on Friday (17Apr09) and Banks is expected to give her testimony in the coming weeks, according to the New York Daily News.

FANS DEMAND TICKET REFUND FROM BRITNEY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:39 pm

Angry BRITNEY SPEARS fans who were subjected to the Toxic troublemaker’s stage tantrum in Vancouver, Canada last week (08Apr09) have set up a website in a bid to get their ticket money back.
A group of attendees are demanding a refund from Spears or promoters AEG Live for the money spent on attending the concert, which was abruptly halted without explanation so second-hand smoke could be cleared from the venue.
Spears, a smoker, took exception to the smoky atmosphere in GM Place and refused to perform, stopping her show for close to 40 minutes and leaving fans stunned.
As the houselights came up, many ticket buyers thought the concert had been cancelled - and left the venue.
Some 20 minutes into the stoppage an announcer explained the concert would not continue if people kept smoking - because it was "unsafe" for Spears and the performers.
Eventually Spears returned and finished the show, without addressing the stoppage.
And now some fans insist the concert was ruined for them, and they’ve set up a website to ask for a refund.
Others who attended the show and were equally put out by Spears’ anti-smoke stance are being asked to add their names to RefundFromBritney.com.
Spears is back in America on tour. She played the first of two Los Angeles shows on Thursday night (16Apr09).

COHEN TRIUMPHS IN FIGHT OVER BRUNO AGE RATING

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:36 pm

Comedian SACHA BARON COHEN has won his bid to have the age rating of his latest film BRUNO lowered by U.S. movie watchdogs - but only after re-editing the picture to suit the censors.
In the comedy’s first review by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), it was given a restricted NC-17 cinema rating, which would prevent anyone under the age of 17 from seeing the movie.
Rating officials were initially concerned over several sexually explicit scenes, with the MPAA citing the film’s "pervasive strong and crude sexual content, graphic nudity and language" as the reason behind the adults-only certification.
However, after returning to the editing suite, Cohen has landed the movie an R rating in America, meaning that under-17s will now be able to watch the film if accompanied by a parent of guardian.
The film is a follow up to Cohen’s cult hit Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, and follows his outrageous Austrian fashion-forward character Bruno as he attempts to make it big in Hollywood.
Bruno is expected to be released in July (09).
